Superman II can still be in continuity. Sure, he learned alot about Krypton in the first film but he specifically deals with the Crystal Technology in this film. The only way he can do that is by having seen them personally work sometime before he went to prison....hence Superman II.

You're forgetting the driving event of S2. The Zod Gang. With the Zod Gang cut out of S2, it isn't S2 anymore, and Zod didn't show up anywhere in the Luthor prequel comic, so no Zod, no S2. To hack up S2 that selectively serves no purpose, you might as well just not include it and mention the events you wanted from it in the new film anyway.

S2 WAS in continuity when Singer started making the film, but as the script changed, it was removed from continuity, the evidence is undeniable. Not to mention Singer SAYING it's OOC now.

As for Luthor working the Fortress...? As I said before.... you haven't seen the film, how do you know he walks right in and works it like a pro? The trailers are going to, of course, cut to the chase and show him working it. Luthor learns fast, he doesn't have to take 20 years to learn how to work it. See crystals? Put them in this slot. Huh? Jor-El? Hmmm.... Tell me everything.

Aside from all that.... after using the Fortress in S2.... why would he still need Jor-El to "tell him everything"? Did he forget all that he learned in prison?

Seems like batman begins is still crowned as the best superhero film ever.

You do realize that is basd on opinion only & not fact right  & this will be moved to the right thread

I duno. Singer boldly recent saying that Superman II is not in continuity and calling it a badly put together film (with the documentary supporting that)...likely out of respect to Donner's unhappiness with the film...

It makes me think he intented for SR to work without Superman 2. If you wanted, you could tack it in.... but I think it was intended to work without it there.

Why does the Zod Gang have to be mentioned at all within the story? Just because they're not mentioned doesn't mean that Superman II doesn't exist.

Plus, how many in the general audience are actually going to read the prequel comics?

I read them but I still prefer to go with Superman and Superman II as the backstory.

Let me just say that Superman's spit curl is the strongest thing in his whole body. He's been knocked down, beaten up, nearly drowned, and at the end of the day... that curl is still standing!

When? Even lying in the hospital on his death bed he. Still. Looks. GORGEUS. :)

How the heck does he change his hair so quickly when he changes to Superman?

They are too big an event to be ignored. THEY WERE THE DRIVING FORCE for the film. You can't consider S2 in continuity and not mention them. You really think they wouldn't make a big deal out of Luthor trying to team up with them in the Prequel comic? From a writing standpoint (and I am a writer) you just don't do that.

Look, all the evidence is saying no S2, and Singer SAID no S2 anymore. I don't see why you still seem to think that somehow S2 fits in? If you can somehow ignore all the signs, you cannot ignore what the filmmaker has said!

When he took a beating and fell into the drink he didn't look so good. As far as the hospital I'm sure the nurses there were more than willing to help fix his hair. :D

Where does his cape fit in underneath his normal clothes?

It's Superman, dude. He finds a way. :)

@Strange. Fix his hair and feel him up probably. :D

batman begins was jus such a surprise that it was so good. no one is really doubting superman returns. i always feared for begins but as soon as i knew singer was directing i knew superman wud be great.

Because Lex states hes been in prison for 5 years since the vague events of Superman 1. He wasnt out for adventures with Zod following that, otherwise it would have been mentioned.

The way I see it, Lex was basically this playboy/Hackman-like character up until Superman busted his plans and ruined his life.

Over the 5 years in prison, he turned into the Lex Luthor we are more familiar with, evil to the core and sadistic.

Thats what I got out of the comic.

His hair is pretty strong. Im thinking the spit curl is natural in his family (since Jorel had one) meaning once he pulls his hair back the curl will naturally just stick out like that.

IGN is always tough on things they review, which is why I like them. And the fact that their review was still this positive (3.5 stars) for the movie bodes well for just how good it is.

Because, it can fit and it can not fit. It works either way. Sure, if you go by the prequel comic, yeah, it doesn't fit.

But I ask again, how many in the general audience are actually going to read that prequel comic or any other?

For most, their collective memory is Superman The Movie and Superman II. And for this film, Returns, you don't need to mention Zod at all. While they were the driving force for Superman II, they're not important to the story of Returns.

It's five years later anyway.

You can have it anyway you want. Superman The Movie, then Superman Returns. Superman The Movie, Superman II, then Superman Returns. Superman The Movie, Superman Returns Prequel Comics, then Superman Returns.

Either way, it all works.

IGN has credibility!?!?!? Since when?

Im going by what Bryan Singer intended....

Since the majority of the general audience are idiots (they think Superman is gay.... -_-)

and from Singer's point of view (along with Mike and Dan), I dont believe Superman 2 is canon.

Well, when the prequel comics are written by the filmmakers, I'd say official canon is official canon, no two ways around it. Essentially, you're just looking for an excuse for S2 to still be in continuity because you want it to be.

Exactly. One of the other things Matt and I can agree on. ;)

It happens occasionally.

IGN is best when it comes to video-game scoops. Anything outside of that is far beyond their depth, no matter how hard they try to sound convincing.

Attempts that fail horribly, usually.

For one, the explanation of Superman's absence is glossed over and never fully explained. He was just away, okay! Forget about it and move on people! Couldn't we have at least gotten a few more lines of explanation here, a speech about the importance of exploring his homeland, his origins, anything?

That alone tells that the person who wrote this didn´t saw the movie.

When you watch the film, you'll see that the reviewer is lying thru his teeth.

Well, that's fine.

Everyone will make up their own mind once the film is released. Based on the novel I read, minus the Return to Krypton sequence, I would put Superman II in continuity.

If the film is slightly different and it affects certain reference points, I'll change my opinion.

I'm not making excuses. I'm just looking at it from all angles. It doesn't matter to me either way. Alot of Superman II is Donner's vision, so that can't be dismissed.

But, to think that everyone will have read the prequel comics before they see this film is just plain stupid. More often than not, people will remember the first two films.
