"I agree with a lot of this. The most annoying thing with this is the wasted opportunity, the set up was there for a great film, but it felt like this was haphazardly thrown together. I will disagree with the first 30 mins though, I felt the build up to Whiplash's entrance at the Grand Prix had some great tension to it, I think that's the strongest part of the film and the only part Favreau is in control of. After that though the film never got out of first gear. There really is no excuse for this film not being better, it should have at the very least equaled film one."

jmc's on the money with this statement...

I am perturbed by the amount of people who think this film is better than the first.

It wasn't. Perhaps some of the action sequences were better executed, but in terms of narration it is weaker than the first.

Maybe a specific Iron Man 1 vs Iron Man 2 thread might be useful when all the dust settles.

why does it bother you so?? I enjoyed it just as much, my mom really liked it and she loved the first one

I'm 100% agree with you, everybody have their own opinion.:cwink:

About the movie, well I prefer Iron Man 2, but the first was amazing too, and I understand peoples who prefer the first movie.

Unlike jmc, I don't think that if a second part is not as good that the first, it's unforgivable, in general, peoples seem to prefer the first Batman (1989) that Batman return, but it's not for that Batman return is a bad movie, Batman return have an excellent reputation and it's imo a really great movie.

So why it would be different for Iron Man 2 ? Lot of peoples seem to prefer Iron Man 2, lot of others prefer the first, I'm really cool with that, the most important thing and these two movies are amazing, specially Iron Man 2.:woot:

not a fan of Batman Returns...at all..they ruined The Penguin

this movie is a little heavy in the ass, but I still enjoyed it....there are worse sequels and I see it as less of a sequel and more as a building block in a continuing story

I prefer Predator 2 over the first film

Yes, but my point was more about different opinions, and that a less good sequel is not something bad, for example unlike you I prefer Predator 1, but I really like Predator 2 too.

I loved when Rockwell is talking about his super awesome bullet

"I call it the ex-wife"

criticism is one thing, if you don't like it fine...what bothers me is that there are those in the fandom that will never like anything, EVER, and treat everyone elses opinions like if someone actually enjoyed it they are less intelligent or less of a fan

That's why I always wait to see a movie first before judging it due to a lot of fanboys, as you said, hating everything.

I also find it funny that drmick states that it wasn't better than the first as fact. Or at least that's the way it reads.

Going to see this tonight at midnight on Imax, can't wait.

My expectations for Iron Man2 were basically in the gutter. I agree this film was rushed and it shows.

Iron Man came out only a few months before TDK and we already have a new IM film and the sequel to TDK hasnt even started filming yet. What does that have to do with anything? It tells me that this film was in fact rushed into production and started filming with less than polished script... and it shows. Why are these films being rushed into production? Xmen now has a release dates to 13 months from now.

There are some decent sequences in it, and yes the buildup to Roukes appearance does work, but nothing else in the first half of the film does.

Showing a character dealing with internal demons isnt best done with comedy. This is the mistake SM3 made. Having a good character deal with feelings of the darkest kind isnt best portrayed by dancing down the street with eyeliner and it isnt best portrayed by scratching records in a Iron Man suit. It didnt make me feel sorry for Stark, it made me feel bad for me for being subjected to bad comedy. When I was reading Marvel comics Stark would never behave in the way he did during this scene.

Im not sure how Fury is presented in the Ultimates Universe, but Jackson seemed off with his delivery of lines.
Scarlett was ok,not great and not bad.
I actually enjoyed Gweneth and Rockwell quite a bit.
Mickey was great. Cheadle, who can be a great actor, was ok as Rhodes. I didnt miss Howard really. Watching the film, Id actually forgotten the part was recast.

And I have to go back to Downey. Again if his version of the character is based on the Ultimates, than I guess Im complaining out of ignorance - but Downeys Stark ISNT ANYTHING like the Tony Stark I remember. Sure Stark could be arrogant sometimes, but the constant one liners, quibs, etc. I dont feel like Im watching Tony Stark. I feel like Im watching Robert Downey.

Personally I cant stand him in the part.

My choice for Stark ended up being TwoFace.

I wasn't aware length of development had anything to do with quality of a film (hell , if we're going by that standard John Carter of Mars should be the masterpiece of our time)....not to mention the fact that Nolan went to work on Inception soon after TDKs release

and if all some posters in here are going to do is use TDK as the club with which to bash every other super hero movie that isn't "up to par", then I can't logically continue on

No that wasnt my point.

My comparison had to do with rushed production - nothing else.

Unless the script for Iron Man2 was well underway when the first one was still in production - it shows that the film was rushed - just like the final product of Xmen The Last Stand shows that it was rushed. I made this point pretty clearly in my post when I brought up now First Class has a release date only 13 months away.

A longer production doesnt guarantee anything, as we've seen plenty of bad films that have had longer productions. But Jon F showed he can make a good film, and IMHO this film falls prety far short of the first. Taking more time CAN ensure the most important part of the movie making process, a solid story and script. Thats where IM2 falls short. Bridge movie or not - the first hour of this movie is really sloppy, from a storytelling point of view.

It all comes down to one simple word... care.

I personally feel that First Class is going to be a disaster of epic proportions and I hope that when/if that is the case, Disney takes Fox to the rack to get the X-men rights back

....I felt IM2 was a little heavy in the ass, but I don't think that damns the film to "It's a bad movie" status, I have a good feeling the GA and the kids will love it

as much as I like TDK it is NOT a fun movie to watch, its good and its tense, but its not fun

I Just got back from the midnight screening...WOW…it is freaking incredible! It’s splitting hairs about whether this movie is better than IM, since they both very nearly perfect translations of the comics, imho. This movie does tie the rest of the Marvel universe much tighter into the story, and in general, the action is very good…nothing mind blowing…well maybe Black Widow…but otherwise, it was good stuff. Marvel movies have come a long way, and make sure you stay for the “easter egg” after the credits, it’s very nice.:up:

That's because they take away your fan card when you like something they don't. They'll be coming by to pick up yours later today. :oldrazz:

I'm seeing it at the IMAX tomorrow. I've kept myself relatively spoiler-free and even stopped watching the TV ads a few weeks ago. And I'm going with my dad, who's probably the least objective person in the world when it comes to these movies. We'll most likely have a good time.

That's the spirit.

My dad just turned 60, and he loves this stuff. We've been going to these kinds of movies together since I was 3 and he took me to Star Wars. Tomorrow's like the start of our movie season. :woot:

My mom was so not into action movies when I was younger...than a couple years ago we're having dinner and she starts going on about how she loves the Bourne movies..and Im like wahh you hate action movies...apparently not anymore..

Thanks, we'll remember to check with you next time we need to determine which movie was better.

I just watched my Iron Man Blu-ray in preparation for my midnight showing of part two tonight:awesome::up: and my IMAX rondevu on Saturday, good times!!!:D:up:

I wish people would stop comparing every f-ing comic film to TDK get over it already, it wasn't that good

TDKs quality aside, it gets used as a club with which to bash every other superhero film over the head with

and I don't think that's fair

Me neither, It doesn't make any sense when people compare DC films to Marvel films, their nothing alike, and especially The Batman films to other superhero films, No hero is or ever will be like batman begins and TDK, that doesn't mean he's necessarily better, it just means that films like say Iron Man, Hulk or Thor are absolutely NOTHING like TDK and Batman Begins - Nor should they be
