I'm a Venom fan, but Spider-man 3's version is one of my favorites.

I feel the same.
The movie has many flaws, but overall,I loved it(despite Venom/Brock's lack of screen time and development). Not to sound biased, but Venom belonged in the film because,as alot have already mentioned,he was Peter's dark side and needed to be dealt with in order for the movie(and Peter)to have closure. Which makes me think that Sandman really wasn't needed at all. Not to say anything bad about Thomas Hayden Church, but I could've cared less about the character. If symbiote Spidey needed to fight someone then they should just forgotten the whole "lost my memory" thing and have black Spidey fight Harry as the Goblin. Venom is alot more powerful than Spider-man and quite frankly, didn't need anyone's help to defeat him. Here's what I wanted to see...
-Venom kidnaps Gwen
-Spidey comes to her rescue and confronts Venom and an epic battle begins
-After a while,Venom is really beating the crap out of Spider-man
-MJ then goes to Harry and begs him into helping Peter, telling him that Peter never killed his father(Peter would've let her in of what was happening earlier)
-Harry fights through his father's influence and comes to Spidey's rescue
-In the final battle,Venom kills Harry and then Brock and the symbiote meet their death just as they did in the movie

I think your alternative storyline is great, and would be how I would change it, if I took out Sandman. But I actually liked what they did in Spider-man 3 with Sandman. The plot lines that some people found questionable, I enjoyed. Also, as people have said before, watching the commentary really helps you appreciate the movie more. But if I had to take one villain out, it would be Sandman. The only thing I'd really change, would be to add more Eddie Brock scenes.
I've actually come to terms with Venom's screentime. Venom was able to serve his purpose very well in the story. I think a lot of people just whine because they wanted to see Venom for the whole movie. Those are also the ones that complain about how Venom looked, and sounded.

I kinda have come to terms with his screentime as well. Although,it still bothers me a bit,but it's over and done. There's nothing I can do. I think it bothers me because, not only am I a Venom fanatic, but he is clearly one of Spidey's greatest villains(the others being Ock and Goblin)and I think he deserved more than just a "cameo" in part 3. I fully agree with you though about a few more scenes. I'm not sure if they filmed any of this, but since Eddie is kinda like Peter's twin,I think it would been cool to see him(after being fired)go back to his apartment and be confronted by his landlord asking for rent(just like what Peter deals with). Only,Brock's landlord is a real jerk and hates Brock, and since Eddie can't pay because he was fired, the landlord evicts him. That would've given more insight into how Brock's life is falling apart. That, and the Gwen Stacy house visit that was filmed, would've added alot to his character.

Yeah, that would be cool. It's like Eddie faces situations similar to Peter, only instead of trying to fix them, he puts the blames on others.

Yep,my thoughts exactly.
There's another scene that was in the Spider-man 3 novel, but I'm not sure if it was shot and that's of Eddie sitting in a bar getting drunk, crying over Gwen and cursing Peter Parker. That would've been great to see in the movie.

^Wow, that could be pretty intense.
I'd have it like right before the jazz club scene. Then after he's finished in the bar he goes to find Gwen and sees Peter with her, on a date; like in the movie. And then that'd be the final straw.

Spider-Man 3 was just...bad...so....so...bad! oh my god !½!! what were they thinking.. im a fan of Spider-Man and i was really expecting a very good Spider-Man movie but no they made the third one a crap movie but Spider-Man 1 & 2 was the best but Spider-Man 3 was just a ****ty movie :(

By the way,is it just me or did anyone else love the line by Brock..."I want you to kill Peter Parker?" I hear alot of people hating that line but I thought it was awesome. It showed just how desperate and far gone Eddie was becoming.

I second that.

It showed what a dumbass Brock is. He goes and asks god to break one of the ten commandments he set down.

Brilliant!

Well,he was starting to become messed up in the head and was developing a bitter hatred for,not only Peter, but the world. I can see someone that mentally unstable saying something like that.

Crazy villains say crazy things, not stupid things. Does Brock know a single thing about religion? He's supposed to be a religious man, isn't he?

I'm not religious, and even I know the ten commandments. Asking god to kill Peter, so stupid.

It has nothing to do with religion. It was an expression of Brock's strong desire to kill someone.
To be so profoundly drawn to murder is the definition of ‘crazy’.
Do you honestly believe that someone in that state would rationally think or care about what 'god' or the ‘ten commandments’ are all about?

You've a short memory, Trevor. We're not engaging in discussions like this anymore, remember?

Find someone else to play with :cwink:

Doesn't stop me from stating my own point of view.
I personally don't take stuff like that too close to my ego. It's the internet man. Grudges are just silly here.
Otherwise I really think you turned bitter lately. Maybe you were always like that and I just didn't see it but now I began to notice quite a bit of arrogance in most of the posts I catch from you.

Yep, that's me. An arrogant, egotistical, bitter fanboy. It's like you can see into my soul :hehe:

It ain't a grudge. It would just be pointless to even start this debate with you, and have it spiral into the kind of farce the last one did. We're on opposite ends of the spectrum about literally everything when it comes to this franchise.

Ah, see, another thing about you I see more often now is how you like to put words in other people’s mouths and blow their comments out of proportion. I’ve never implied what you just said; you’re just being needlessly dramatic there. Ironically (or maybe even appropriately) it makes you sound just the way you described yourself. Aren’t you defining your bitterness right now? Is that how you want to be perceived?

The only reason our last discussion spiralled into a farce was because you took my sarcastic remark too seriously. I did mention it was just a joke as soon as I made it but that wasn’t good enough for you to let go. I’ve always seen you make fun of your debate opponents but for some reason, as soon as you were exposed to mildly the same medicine, you couldn’t take it.
And it’s not that we have opposite opinions. It’s just that nothing I said last time was good enough of a point of view for you. You’re the one who ‘challenged’ me, as you said. The only thing that I had to do is explain myself better. I was just answering a question; I didn’t have to prove anything. Of course I stepped away from some of my words a couple of times. I acknowledged that they did sound silly and I tried to keep the discussion in one particular topic about a few specific things but you kept generalising, splitting hairs and took some of my comments in the wrong way, assuming drastic implications in anything I said.
Despite me questioning your comprehension, you kept saying that you understood my opinion. But if it was really so, you would’ve let go of the discussion from the get go.
I had ‘heated’ arguments in the past but now I really just want to hear out people’s opinions to understand them better, not prove them wrong. Because it’s pointless to try to ‘prove’ something to the opposite party, especially in here.
Why did you start our last argument? What did you really expect to accomplish?

Being a Christian, that line always gives me a cringy feeling. But I don't know, maybe people really do that, if they have a bad understanding of they're religion. Like thinking, they only pray to have they're own selfish, and in Eddie Brock's case, lethal; desires answered.

Like in my last post on the topic, I don't see how sane rationality can fit into this equation. Sure some people do that just because they are selfish but Eddie's case is far from that.
I mean, how many people pray to their god to kill their own rival? Some people shout "drop dead!" just to be jackasses; nutty people may contemplate murder quietly; it's a whole other level of insane when you come to a church and announce your desire to kill some one out loud to your own imaginary friend.

Also, Silver Spider, you’re saying it as if you had some sympathy for Eddie Brock and you felt betrayed when he said those words. He’s a rage driven villain, he’s supposed to make you cringe at him. :cwink:

I don't think it's me that dislikes it per se; it's more like, hearing him say that was kind of awkward. At least when watching it with other people.
Because I've only watched it by myself once. Every other time it's with someone, and I don't know how they feel about it.

You don't have to convince me that it worked. I'm a big Spider-man 3 fan; ask anyone around here.

I've always been under the impression that,at least in the film,Brock was never religious at all. Not untill he was fired and Peter told him to "get religion."
Anyway,I still love when he says that, but my favorite line has always been,"Hey,Parker!" I remember seeing that clip when one of the first trailers came out and it still makes me smile to see that first confrontation between Spider-man and Venom.

I, too, don't think religion had anything to do with Brock's insane request.

Right from the start, we see Brock lives in a world of his own, with him in the center, magnified tenfold. Merrily introducing himself to Gwen's father and establishing he's dating her (which he wasn't, to boot), all during what could be her final moments? He's not of course a lunatic, but he "clearly has issues". All he needs is "a little push" (Bats puns intended). Which is exactly what happens during SM3's story.

So, at that point in the story, he's kinda lost it. And what would a man like that ask for at such a situation? Elimination of the person preventing him from being the center of the universe. At any cost necessary. We are clearly shown that Brock has gone off the deep end. He's more than ready to accept the symbiote, being full of hatred and aggression, to form the ultimate personification of revenge. Which is what Venom is in this film (in the comics, too, I might add). And that, of course, leads to his demise.
