I understand wanting to be social. I think it's healthy for people who want to go out and meet people to do so.

But I see comics, as I see people who enjoy video games, buys and reads books, or even someone who's constantly going out. In excess, they can all be a drain on your wallet.

Maybe I'm reading too much into what you posted, but I spend $50 on comics for a month and really, I read them all within what a couple of hours? How is that different than dropping $50 at some bar for one night?

Again, people should go out and be less sheltered, it's okay to have hobbies that cost money just not to excess.

I agree with this.

Plus, you -can- bond and form connections via comic books. It's just a particular group of people you are bonding with.

I met a group of pretty cool people at the local comic book shop through Warhammer. Yea, they are uber nerds or whatever, but they were cool people, and we'd go out and grab lunch after a game or whatever.

I haven't gone there in awhile simply because my schedule doesn't leave much time for things like Warhammer, but you can be social through comics.
Obviously, I don't think anyone here is saying you can't meet people through comic books, just that it's not an ideal way to meet people. Comic books tend to have a very niche' group. Contrast that with video games even, I think you'll understand what I'm getting at.

I don't go to bars. I'm sure some people have luck there. I meet people in the daytime, I despise bar atmosphere. Dark and noisey, can't take it.

If you're making minimum wage and looking to meet people, by all means cut out comics.

If I was single tomorrow, I wouldn't cut out comics if I wanted to meet new people.

Wrong wrong wrong wrong, let them do it on their own terms rather than treating what you said as a fact. You're throwing logic out the window for no good reason.

You mean like sitting on one's hands and wishing for someone to magically knock on their door or e-mail them?

Sorry the latter is just a scam e-mail.

This reminds me of me, Erz. Except I am shy and anti-social. Although when I go back to speech I hope to fix this.:yay:

I thought you were told that English accents work. Why would you want to work on losing that?

Also nothing wrong with comics, although I am starting to lose interest, solely because the cost way too much these days, I started reading them 20 years ago, when the were $1.00, it's been a 300-400% increase since then. I'd read more books, but they cost way too much these days.

I'm the same way. They were about $.75 when I started reading them, and most backissues cost about one dollar or less at the time. Plus I think I'm disappointed with the quality per price tag. I actually lied a little, I kept my Walking Dead subscription (that was it). I haven't actually been in since closing my box, but I think they only have one (or two) Walking Dead pulled since my last visit. The only reason I kept the book was quality. I thought it had quality storytelling, period. Not just for a comic book.

Marvel and DC just seem bland to me now. They've really saturated the market with comics devoted to nothing, and the storylines don't seem to matter like they used to. I've noticed a distinct drop in character development, and really I just loathe having eight or ten titles all devoted to the same three characters.

I mean I won't strictly blame them, because I've bought bad comics before, so having other interests and other hobbies certainly helped, but the recent quality was also a motivating factor.

To all of you advice seekers, I love this kid:

Because I am American and voice in my head is American, not European.

Hey, he says he's happier now :oldrazz:

Please. He'll get bored of "chicks" and "socializing", miss reading about Cyclops and the rest of the X-Men, and end up out of shape and girlfriend-less like me :o

I don't care to bond with someone at the comic book store, just give me my copy of Batman and let me leave.

The people at my comic shop are cool as heck. Not weird and nerdy like the Simpsons guy. I'm in there chatting w/ them for at least 20 mins every Wed

Sadly, it's not hard to blow a ton of money on comics now. I've been frusterated with the price-gouging for a while now.

I'm dropping $20-$40 a week these days

If I were a single man, there's no way I'd meet my g/f at a bar. People get real ugly when the lights come on at last call :(

So you're racist against yourself?

Oh for the love of God...I have a damn speech problem and would love nothing more to speak American Accent. I'm tired of people asking where I am from. Even a Russian woman asked what my native tongue was. That's how bad my speech can be in public. Hell sometimes I actually forget I am a American. Most peeps would question why a guy like me has a tattoo of USA on him probably...ugh.

What is worse is I feel I have a better chance of improving my so called European accent than get an American one.

You should play it up and become a con man.

Life of adventure and lies and drinks...oh my!

But seriously, it's bad when I feel it's easier for me to slip into an accent than to try and speak with an American one. I bet my American accent is gonna be as fake as the chain smoker American accent christain bale uses...

I know very little about speech therapy, but shouldn't whoever is helping you out be trying to refine your natural accent as opposed to speaking in an entirely new one??

If by refine you mean speaking cleary with my so called accent, no. I want American.

Well, the only job I have is a one day a week paper route gig. Still live at home, no car and only a permit, as I need a second job or a better one before I can get license, as I need more money to cover the monthly bill of having my license. I want to give up on dating until I have a better life and do a few things, but I also get lonely so...ugh.

why do you have to pay monthly to have a license?

practice at home. read stuff out loud to yourself, books, magazines, comics, newspaper articles, song lyrics, etc. say your ABC's over and over, mix up the order of the letters, etc. it will help you a lot

Well, like most people who have limited funds, you always have to prioritize. I gave up ice skating so I could take art classes. Don't have enough time nor money to be really good at both, at least not when I still have a day job.

And you should really enjoy your hobbies too, not just do them so you can meet people. :oldrazz:

Yeah a speech therapist can't really help you with accents if you can already hear what you have to work on. Just takes practice, there's no magic formula. But if you're really in a hurry, there probably are dialogue coaches out there working for theater or film if you're in an area which is big on that stuff. LA definitely is. :oldrazz:
