Official Script Discussion

it had alot of unnatural dialogue that was changed. but begins had alot of stupid stuff like the microwave emitter and stuff.

the transformers script is pretty good, IMO. i think with the rewrites it will be alot better and truer to the characters. i found it to be a very fun read, and spike was a relatable character. brought me back to movies like the goonies and lost boys, or back to the future. I mean, it's not shawshank redemption, but it works great as a summer blockbuster and it treats the source material with respect. it's not like they're disrespecting the franchise like schumacker did with batman.

Well, I'm thinking that script was written before they cast Peter Cullen as Optimus, so maybe inspired by his presence on the project they will alter it somewhat. And you know, I was thinking, the reference to Optimus and Megatron being "brothers", maybe this is a vague unendearment. I mean perhaps Megs intonation is purely sarcastic.

yeah, i'm not really attached to the old cartoon so the script as is would be fine with me. i do want more jazz though, cuz he's a pimp.

and i think optimus talks about them being brothers first, while explaining the situation to spike. could be brothers in a figurative sense, but all signs hint at no.

Well, I'm very attached to the olg G1 cartoon, seeing as how I;m 33 and all I grew up on it. I'm not 100% cushy with the notion of Optimus and Megatron being "related" as it were. It just doesn't make any sense unless they share the same spark, Megatron getting all that is evil and Optimus all that is good. Can you understand now why we fans of the G1 series don't like this idea?

can someone pm me the script? i went to that script web site but the script had been removed from it......

I too am very attached to the old cartoon and i dont mind the changes this movie has made...nothing they will do will change those old cartoons or the fun I had with the toys

Despite some of the shortcommings with this early draft, I hope the final version of it which is the shooting script still has the Ipod and XBox 360 in it, It be freaky to see those things sprouting legs and transforming. But I think it will get huge laughs by the audience.

well i dont.
thats just so stupid and just an excercise in product placement.
i think it will be more of an embarassing scene than a funny one.

But those of us who are gamers would get a kick out of it though, Heh. :)

Alright I was just sitting here thinking about the script all optimus crime style, then suddenly i realised the energon cube had to clash with some sort of technology to create the transformers since earth didnt have technology back then. could this bring in the plot outline for 2 and 3? were we discover where the technoloy the enegron fused with to create the transformers came from?, and thinking about the end were their dragging a certain decepticons body out to sea whos to say that the explosives they were going to use to blow up megatrons body dont contain some sort of energon since humanity was running off of energon at the dam if i remember correctly...eh...i know these are questions that will be answered in due time but still....im bored.

those things are engraved in our pop culture. you see them everyday, so what's it matter if they're in the movie? the transformers themselves are product placements for cars and toys.

Sabot's are real. They are not weapons though. The work with projectile weapons. They surround the projectile allowing a smaller calibre round to be fired by a larger calibre weapon.
Here's the link.

You know in my opinion the script refering to Optimus and Megatron as brothers is exactly the same as obi-wan refering to anakin as his brother in episode 3, becuase their both jedi just like in transformers their both transformers.

yeah but why wouldn't optimus call everyone else brother too then? i dunno, it's just kinda cliche and unneeded.

It was said earlier, but I'll say it again. The product placement! Get over it. The whole series in the '80s was product placement! It was a show based on toys, the placed the product (Transformers toys) in front of it's target market (5-13 year-old boys) every chance it could get, in the form of half-hour commercials. And with this whole movie, Hasbro is going to place it's product infront of us again, of course this time we will have to pay to see the 2 hour commercial.

yeah, so true. how is an xbox or ipod any different from a boombox back in the day???

you people are arguing over product placement?.......

ummmm.............WHO CARES. not just because the show was about toys.....but seriously.................WHO CARES????

I was hoping to get them all to quiet down a bit.

i understand product placement but making a 360 and ipod turn into a transformer is completley lame and makes no sense, even in a world of alien robots.
its only in the film for product placement.
the thing with bays films, the product placement has the subtlety of a brick.

I think they were just trying to show what this thing can do. How it can turn any electronic device into a Transformer. They only use the items they do so that they are easily recognizable.

Product Placement or not... I know Jim Shooter and Bob Budiansky at Marvel did some good work creating the background and characters. It's what made TF successful compared to other franchises at the time (Gobots, Insectaurs, bla bla bla).

And it's funny.... cause "the half hour commercial" didn't work very well on me. I didn't really collect Transformers- as a matter of fact, most of the kids I knew couldn't even afford Transformers. But, I watched the show and collected the comic book religiously. I thought it was awesome (and still do).

And it sucks to see some you guys so dismissive of it all. :down

well....to be real, its not like movies should be censored from having a coca cola billboard in the back round or anything....we DO have that in real life.

and btw.......... you say michael bay's product placement is bad!...HAHAHAHA!!!.... check out steven spielbergs!.....EVERY one of his movies had it(hell....maybe even saving private ryan).

superman 2 had the biggest one in history...........zod or w/e crashing through the billboard:D
