In America it usually is. Not a knock on any other countries but when your in America the numbers that you hear the most are the domestic numbers. Most people only go by domestic numbers unless of course they really like a movie and want it to do better and in the other countries it is. Then they say

well, at least in America they agree that sm3 is doing better than POTC, here in Mexico they keep saying how Jack Sparrow kicked spidey's ass. Mexican press love POTC, they are always talking about it.

You use to be my hero with that great avatar of yours.

This friendship is over. :woot:

For that comment, I should change avators. Put a fat ass man in a g string doing the exact same dance that she is doing! :woot:

LOL

You didn't like SR?

I didn't like it.............but I'm attracted to it. I thought it was boring and that Singer missed the mark.........but oddly I find myself watching bits and pieces of it every week or two. I still don't see how the heck the budget for this movie was $200 million+. Where the heck did the money go?

That's just one of the few complaints I have with the money, where did all the budget go. In SM3 you really see why it was so expensive, SR you may think it was way cheaper to make until you see the budget

So glad seeing Spider-Man 3 doing so good despite the competition.

Guys, the American dollar is worth feck all, that's why Europeans, Asians, Australians around the world are buying so much stuff online at the moment.

And also why the Worldwide Gross is so much.

One American dollar will get you 700mls of Petrol (gasoline) in the UK.

Back in January, a Sony Exec said in order for the company to be happy, SM3 had to hit 300 million, domestic.

It has done so. And more. :word:

I don't think anyone at Sony is displeased with the box-office results of SM3

I knew Spidey would do great. Had no doubt. Most people really like to like it.

Agreed! How the heck can Spidey 3 been seen as a failure!?! That is so stupid!! With that being said, I think Shrek 3, and POTC3 companies should be shot! To release all 3 of these movies in the same month within a 4 week time frame is stupid! They should have not had so much of a big ego to see who would budge first. It's stupid but you may the same thing next year in May with IronMan.........and some other movies that I forgot!
Back to the SM3 bo, I know a lot of studios who would love for their marque superhero to have similiar numbers..........especially the ones who fly around in little red capes. :woot:

60.1 million people went to see Spider-Man 2. Take those 60.1 million, and multiply that by a ticket at todays prices, and you have $ 395.5 domestic. So dispite it's record breaking screens at the time, about 13 million less people have seen Spider-Man 3, then saw Spider-Man 2. That is disturbing. Why have 13 million less people seen Spider-Man 3 ? Right now it has 62.3 % of its WW #'s from overseas, whereas Spider-Man 1, and 2, were about 50-50. It has gained 12 % overseas, and loss 12 % domesticly.

1) Competition.

2) Pirated viewings.

3) SM3's final domestic tally STILL isnt known.

Who cares?

The movie is a success and is #1 right now this year. Be happy about it, and quit trying to down play its success.

The fact that this can lose like 10 million viewers and still be this high is astounding.

Hey. I have a business, and in 3 years I lose 12 % of my customers, I want to know why, dispite the bottom line.

Who cares if 13 million less people saw Spider-Man 3 than S-M2? S-M3 has made over $318 million so far. Anyone who calls that a failure or disappointment is a total airhead. There are very few trilogies who can say that each installment of theirs' made $300 million just domestically.

This is a third installment. It is going to happen. The movie has made a ton of money. Why down play its success? It may have sold fewer tickets than the previous ones (through an incomplete theatrical run), but it still has sold far more tickets than 90% of movies do.

Aloha,
No way they could not be happy. Here's the thing that makes some people around the world a little peeved at the US. Both the music industry and film industry of America, make 2/3 of their money OUTSIDE of America! Yet, Domestic box office is given a higher status. At the end of the day, the franchise counts ALL of it's money. But it also goes to show you how things can be written in a newspaper or on TV to skew the results of anything. Spidey 3 is destined to become the most successful of the three films.Don't people who write that it's a disappointment or that it sucked look very ridiculous?

As if studios don't care about their movie making over half a billion dollars overseas. Like they can't spend that money, only the American money it makes domestically. Only fools don't include half a billion+ dollars to a movie's cume, as if it doesn't exist. Not to mention, out performs both of its previous movies worldwide. If it wasn't for the overseas cume, most big budget movies would be flops.

SM2 also trailed behind SM1 domestically and overseas/worldwide. In the end, SM1/SM2 are going to trailer behind a hell of a lot MORE overseas, than SM3 will trail behind domestically.

Aloha,
A pathetic attempt to downplay one of the most successful franchises in the history of Hollywood and THE MOST Successful Comic Book franchise. Can we move on?

I got news for you. I saw FF 9 times. I will go see FF 2 at least that many. And as many as they put out. My interest will not diminish. So this is the 3rd movie does not wash with me. It's just an excuse. I'll never get tired of going to see FF movies.

You should probably read over what I said again. :o

So? That is you. I saw this movie 5 times (1 more than each of the other movies). My interest in Spidey won't diminish. What does that prove? Nothing. Historically, third installments don't do as well (few exceptions like ROTK, but that is rare). However, this has grossed more money than the others have. May not of sold as many tickets, bo WHO CARES!!! It is still one of the biggest movies EVER! and the biggest this year.

It is a MONSTER hit, and not a disappointment by any means.

Also, while you mention FF, the Spider-Man movies have been leaps and bounds better than the FF movie, and FF2 from the looks of it. Plus, sell more tickets.
