The problem is Shrek 3 is going for its fifth weekend and it hasn´t really gained much territory. From there on, the numbers get smaller and it becomes even harder to come closer.

I think Knocked Up will be the Wedding Crashers or the Devil Wears Prada of this summer, the low budget comedy that pleases people and manages to make big numbers. Not Spider-Man 3 numbers, but strong ones nonetheless.

In the domestic box office, the only movie right now that may represent competition for Spidey, I believe, is Transformers. Don´t underestimate it, the franchise has a huge fanbase and it´s the only one with a built in fanbase that´s not a sequel. Plus audiences haven´t seen giant robots fight on the screets with modern FX yet.

Harry Potter can be a threat worldwide, but domestically Spidey´s always defeated the HP movies. And there´s the risk the franchise may be saturated for non-fans of the books after four movies.

The difference is that Spiderman has decades of comics and decades of story to tell the could easily of done this in two movies and both movies would of been better than this one. I enjoyed 3 but wasn't up to the normal Spiderman standard.

In your opinion, of course. We will have to agree to disagree on this one, as I think two movies would have hurt the movies. That, and I felt this to be superior to the first movie but not the second.

I agree. the movie was too crowded with 3 villians. You could have done Samdman, and Goblin in 3, have them team up, and save Venom for the 4th. The 4th will be done. Tobey and Rami will be back. They will not be able to turn down the money Sony will offer them.

Exactly I think Venom was just screwed big time in three. I honestly think Sam plans to leave and that he knew he was on his way out so while leaving he put a big slap in the face of Venom fans since he does not like Venom at all.

I thought Venom was done well. He worked well in the context of the movie.

Also, I doubt Raimi would want to screw up a character on purpose.

I thought Venom served the story and I was never a big fan, so him having little screen time didn´t matter much to me.

But the problem is that there are people who are big fans of him so it matters to them. Guess what I wasn't a fan of Doc Ock but I knew that he had a huge fan base and he needed to be in the movie. Venom is also one of the most popular Spidey villians period.

The story did not do well at all for him he was under developed and looked like a ***** if you ask me. He was defeated in less than half of the movie maybe even less than a quarter of it didn't have my watch out but I know it's close. He had one fight scene but sandman (who isn't all that popular) had 3 fights.

Also most of Venom's traits from the comics were gone the only reason he could be considered venom was because his real name was Eddie Brock.

I can see where people may think he was inaccurate, but many traits of this Venom were inline with the comic Venom (at least the earlier one).

So again, I just disagree here.

I know there are big Venom fans, but that´s their problem, not mine. I won´t make riots on the streets for a character I don´t really care about.

Actually, I am a big fan of Venom, but I also consider him a shallow character. There isn't much to him. He wants to kill Spider-Man, and that's it. He's not after money or power or world domination, he just wants to kill Spider-man. You can't really do but so much with that through the course of a movie.

In fact, as I've said before, Comic-Venom has never really DONE anything to Spidey...not in the way that Ock of GG really has. Movie-Venom actually did something by killing Harry, and trying to kill Mary Jane.

Venom is popular, yes, but he nas no depth, and even most Venom fans will admit that.

Exactly. Venom is too shallow to carry a movie himself.

Fans of the Lethal Protector Venom will say he had no regard for innocents, but that is something that came to Venom later on. Oh, and he didn't say "We" and think of himself as two beings.

Yeah i forgot the thing about We...but other that he was taken out from ASM 300#....''Fans of the Lethal Protector Venom will say he had no regard for innocents'',but at the same time Doc Ock wasnt the tragic figure they made him in the movie,he was a selfish greedy scientist, but so what...did that ruin the movie?Hell no,so if the We thing ruins the movie for someone, that person has serious issues.

Venom has plenty of depth it just wasn't established from the start. His first couple of comics were very weak I can admit that but over that last 20 years he has developed so much. Hell they even gave him his own comic. There was plenty of depth so what if it wasn't in the first issue he was in. Where was it written that you have to follow the first appearance to the T and can't touch the others?

Venom was given depth...as a hero. As a villian, he jsut wants to kill Spider-Man. That's it.

-In ASM 299-300, Venom showed up, and tried to kill Spider-Man.

-In ASM 318-319, he hunted down Spider-Man, and tried to kill him after escaping from prison.

- ASM 332-333, he tried to kill Spider-Man after escaping from prison.

-In ASM 346-347, he came up with a plan to kill Spider-Man, took him away to an island, and tried to kill him...and believed he was successful, chose to remain on the island....which was the perfect ending to Venom's story, in my honest opinion.

-In ASM 361-363, Carange was born (ugh), and Spider-Man, despite knowing every superhero in the Marvel Universe, decides Venom is the one he should recruit to bring him in. Venom agrees....then tries to kill Spider-Man.

-In ASM 374-375, Venom escapes incarceration to kidnap Spidey's robo-parents, and then try to kill him. His ex-wife, Anne (who wasn't mentioned at all until this two-parter), is saved by Spider-man, and Eddie realizes that Spider-Man is a hero, and decides to use his powers for good.

-Venom:Lethal Protector #1-The Last Venom miniseries, Venom becomes a hero, bores us to tears in flawed story after flawed story, none of which are that good or make very much sense (why was the Punisher in San Francisco, again? Lethal Protector wasn't bad, but the rest were awful.

-Venom Becomes a villian again. This really just happened because Marvel wanted him back...and he wasn't very good afterwards. He was made into a cancer patient in probably the only strong entry into Venom's history in "The Hunger", which delved into the Symbiote's need for Eddie, as well as Eddie's need for his other....not bad at all.

-Eddie sells symbiote, and tries to kill himself.

Really, he has been a cool character, but, if he's not trying to kill Spider-Man, he's just lame. Trust me, I'm a huge Venom fan, and seeing him actually being viscious and lethal in the movie was a big improvement over his "don't harm the innocent" attitude from the comics. I always thought the fact that he was unwilling to do anything to get to Spider-Man was kind of lame, but any villian who would capture a hero, hav ehim at his mercy, and then take him to a deserted island to kill him without interruption, now that's cool.

Venom's doesn't need depth, Eddie Brock on the other hand is a multi layered and complex character.

Sorry I think the don't harm the innocent thing was great for the character and added something special to him. I don't see how anyone could think that Venom couldn't carry a movie by him self especially if you should him get so attached to the point that he said WE and could not acknowledge Eddie anymore. If you really needed to you could add another villian but make him the main villian and don't throw in 3 of them. I personally see depth in his hatred for Spiderman alone there was so much to it and I also see it in his unwillingness to kill the innocent.

Raimi ain't back yet. You can't trust IMDB at this stage. Remember Aunt Carnage?
