Shrek the Third is now $ 16.183 mil behind what SM 3 had made after the same number of days on release.

I think Spidey4 will do an amazing job as well as long as Sam is directing and I think He will.
I think he'll be back for SM4, this film has simply made too much money for Sony to risk another director at this point and time. Not even Sony would have projected that SM3 would crack the top 10 films of all-time (even though Pirates will knock it down to #11 soon). Not to mention, SM3 making more than the previous films worldwide, Sony had no idea.
On a side note, Shrek 3 is, unfortunately, making significant progress every day towards catching Spidey's pace.
Shrek 3, will no doubt make more than Spidey/Pirates domestically. I'm thinking 340-345M.

^ You think Shrek will catch up with Ratatouille in theatres and Surf's up still dangling in there making a few measely bucks. I'm not so sure.

No way, I'm not concerned about it actually catching Spidey (especially with, as pointed out above) the new Pixar flick coming out. But it is definitely going to be closer than it originally looked like it was going to be. I don't see Shrek 3 grossing 30 more million as you predict, especially given its theater count is going to fall very soon.

I don't think there was ever doubt that Sony would drop Sam the doubt is that Same will stay. He has other offers including The Hobbit which he has stated is something he really wants to do.

OH and logic says Shrek will fall short of SM3 sorry but even though it is gaining it's still over 16M behind SM3 at this point and Shrek is in for a big drop. I think when all is said and done Shrek will be around 325M - 335M ( The 335M is very unlikely.)

Not to mention that if there was a new Director then Spidey4 would be at risk of killing the franchise. With Sam we have nothing to worry about. He has made three great Spidey Films!. Sam is an expert at these Spidey Films. We also need the rest of the Cast and Crew to return. Sam + Tobey, Kirsten, Bryce, J.K Simmons, and the rest of the Cast + The same Crew = an amazing and very good Film and a highly succesful Film.

Well that's just a risk we're willing to take.

Honestly, do you expect Raimi and Maguire to still be working on Spider-Man films 10 years from now?

No but I would expect them to stick with the current numbered franchise. If they are going to replace the cast I don't want a SPiderman 4 I just want a SPiderman movie that isn't in any way affiliated with the current franchise that we have built. Also I would prefer if they waited a little longer than 3 years to release it just to sort of establish that it is not the same franchise.

I don't remember the word "just" being in that Doc Ock quote. ;)

I expect Raimi and Maguire to be shown the money for Spidey 4 with them announcing that it WILL be their last entry into the franchise.

Last time I checked,Shrek 3 is still around,21-22 million behind Spidey 3. It might get close, but I think Spider-man 3 will remain on top. What are the only huge threats out for the rest of the summer? Harry Potter and Transformers?

Yes, I'm pretty sure that Shrek 3 is going to beat SM3/Pirates domestically, even with RAT-ASS-AND-SOME-TOOEY in theaters. :word:

"WE'RE," there is no "WE'RE," just Sony and Marvel, and I think they're going to want the three Raimi/Tobey/Kirsten back, who are apart of a 2.4 Billion dollar franchise? Especially, when the third film made 880M+ worldwide. They're going to be willing to pay them whatever they want. Unless they themselves are not interested in SM4, which I seriously doubt.

I don't expect Raimi and Maguire to be working on doing Spidey 10 years from now, but I do expect them to be offered a huge ass amount of money for SM4. Hell, Sam Raimi has already said he'd do it. If not, there will be plenty of people who would kill to take their places, it wouldn't take Sony 6 seconds to find a replacement for any of them. But if you think like a STUDIO/Sony, they're going to want the people who helped make Spider-Man franchise the 2.4 Billion dollar franchise that it is for SM4. :o

I think there's a bigger risk of killing the franchise with Keeping TMags, Dunst and Raimi on board. If TMags and Dunst stay on, they'd be doing it for the sake of doing it. Both have expressed that they're ultimately fed up with these movies. I dont want actors who can't be assed to be in a spidey flick, hell, I dont like them anyway. Besides, TMags is 32 now, he's getting on a bit and Dunst just needs to go.
As for Raimi, I want him gone too, however, I'd only want him to stay on if we got an awesome writer doing the script.
Lets keep things fresh, get new blood, lets see a different take and a different perspective.

No but He should atleast make the fourth one and include Tobey, Kirsten, etc.

why? A 4th Spidey Film with Sam and the rest of the cast and crew wouldn't hurt at all. I mean just because there was a Spidey3 doesn't mean the Cast has to leave. If they are going to leave then they should atleast do one more Spidey Film because I think the Cast is perfect at their roles.

I hear what you're saying, there's nothing wrong with some new blood, and some would say it's needed. Definitely a new writer is needed, no doubt. But you're thinking like an individual, not like a movie studio. That's why all who's involved did everything to get Harrison Ford to do a fourth INDY film, regardless of his age. Do you think Disney want Johnny Depp gone from Pirates, or Dreamwork's wanting Mike Myers gone from Shrek?

I think it's more of YOU (and some others) not wanting Maguire/Dunst/Raimi to come back. However, 880M worldwide doesn't exactly say the majority agrees with you. This is what the studios take note of, not a few disgruntled fanboys who don't like Tobey/Kirsten/Raimi. On the other hand, maybe you'll get your wish, maybe they just won't want to do it. Not Raimi, he's already talking about a SM4 film. Sony would have to cut his strings to get rid of him--unless he refuse to do it without Tobey/Kirsten after they turn SM4 down, which I doubt they will.

I can see one more film in Raimi, Maguire, and Dunst. The story of the Lizard is worth telling--especially if coupled with another secondary villian (Kraven, Electro, Vulture?) and I think if Raimi can tell the story he wants, Maguire and Dunst will show as much passion as they did for the first three films--although it sometimes lagged during the third film.

The third film was good, let me say that now. I liked it and I believe an extended edition will make me love it, but I do believe Raimi and co. will want to end on a higher note with Spider-Man 4--a note I believe will be even better than Spider-Man 2. Yup, better than Spider-Man 2

But I think the condition of them returning for 4 will be the clause that they will, in fact, NOT return for 5 or 6.

And that they get a reasonable break before having to commence work on SM 4. There's no way they'd agree to make SM 4 for a summer 2009 release. They'll want a three-year gap between films at a minimum.

I agree. Shrek can never beat Spidey.I really don't think Transformers will beat Spidey either.

You really don't make any sense to me. There is no rational or logical explination for that thought yet you still have it. There is not one reason to think that Shrek three will beat SM3 at the box office in fact all logic points the other way and yet you still refuse to go with logic.

So keeping things fresh over actual talent?
