Not necessarily.

They just recently filmed a scene with Elijah in Hobbiton, where they had Ian Holm's scenes playing on monitors for reference. We could get a look at him in the background.

I'm thinking this blog will focus on their on-location stint.

Um. You guys might want to head over to Peter Jackson's Facebook.

^ It took someone like Jackson to convince me 3D is not all crap :)

:wow:

Mirkwood is tripping balls :awesome:.

was that a teaser shot for a trailer towards the end?

Interesting blog, they seem to have a really close team all round. Couldn't help but notice the spider webs and also the guy in a green mo cap suit right at the end getting into battle with one of the Dwarves.

While I was watching it I was wondering when they are going to start some exterior filming to match the breathtaking shots from LOTR, but PJ answered that, next blog will be coming from a location shoot.

Wow. This will definitely be worth seeing in theaters!

Beautiful. And finally! I love how 3D is making everyone step up their game. And they actually seem to know what they're doing. There were some moments where I couldn't help but smile and chuckle.

James Cameron is what got me convince 3D is amazing.

Great video log, Most of things they talked about I kinda knew already when Cameron talked about it in length but the 48 frames per second is great. I think there was a part in the log where you see the film move faster and smoother, that was amazing.

GIFs.

We need GIFs.

I'll get on it

Fantastic video blog and altogether a very entertaining and informative one. Keep them coming!

That was a great video blog but 3d sucks and it always will suck. I really wish he would have filmed this in imax instead. That is real immersion.

Only if your theater has a REAL imax screen, which most do not.

pump the brakes kid.

Nolan is using Imax because he is making movies in the real world with real vehicles. the batwing was created for a lot of practical effects FOR the Imax camera.thats why they did film so many shots from the batwing with batman inside. because using greenscreen would take to much time.there will be some small shots with greenscreen. but nothing compared to Hobbit. its hard to do effects for Imax resolution.tracking,textures,rendering,...... so on TDKR they made a choice to use even MORE practical effects. that way they dont have complications in postproduction. when its filmed they are almost ready to go for editing.
creating robots in imax resolution in TF2 was a PAIN for ILM. creating some small effects for TDK was a pain. it would be IMPOSSIBLE to film Hobbit with imax cameras since every shot has an effect. from CGI to color grading.

yes its nice that Nolan,Bird and Bay are using imax cameras. respect. but they did for movies set in a realistic world with buildings and streets. Hobbit is out of question for Imax.

First off don't call me kid, tool. Secondly, they could do it, they do alot more practical things in this movie than it looks like.

Kinda hard to film Gollum with an imax camera.

I'm not a fan of 3D but Jackson is the progressive type that can change my mind.
