Not that I don't believe you, but where are you getting this from? I haven't heard / read anything about that. All I know about Tauriel is that she is supposed to be a Mirkwood guard...

Oh we should definitely take it with a grain of salt. Im not saying otherwise. Just something thats been bouncing around the web ever since Tauriel's character was announced. She was created for the film and some speculated she would have a storyline involving one of the dwarfs. Then it was found out the Kili was going to be the "handsome" dwarf and looked like aragorn's brother so people inferred that would be Tauriel's arc. Too fall in love with Kili. Creating aragorn/arwen 2.0. Normally im not inclined to put stock in this stuff, but given Jacksons record and the stupid handsome human dwarf kili and tauriel im more inclined to think this speculation may not be far off base. People were reaching more with John Blake's character arc and look how that turned out.

Okay, that's a relief. Well, if it is true, maybe it will be something like Arwen's filmed appearance at the Battle of Helm's Deep, where a fan petition persuaded Jackson to remove it from the final film.

I believe it was mentioned in a magazine article (Total Film, maybe). Whether they were being serious or tongue-in-cheek awaits to be seen.

But you know, with Fran Walsh and Phillippa Boyens involved, it's not outside the realm of possibility :csad:.

Read it and weep:

Yes and once again i said these people are older and not of my generation. Im in my twenties. The hormones comment was a joke, but it is a concern of scientists. The abundance of hormones has altered my generations and the millenial generations hormones. There are children hitting puberty at 9 years old and the only thing scientists can figure out is the hormones in our canned and processed foods is causing it. But that is a topic that doesnt belong here.

My biggest wtf regarding Kili is that to a dwarf woman he would not be attractive. He would be a weird midget human. If they wanted to make him an attractive dwarf he should have been attractive by dwarf standards not human standards. His looks wont kill my enjoyment. The storyline between him and tauriel might tho. I liked the story between Gimli and Galadriel. It was small and endearing. If its like that then I might just be pleased. If Tauriel and Kili turn into Arogorn/Arwen 2.0 I may have a problem.

I honestly feel that the attraction of Kili towards Tauriel will truly be one sided, but she's going to be sweet, and not hurt his feelings. Think of that song, "You're so Beautiful".

Another Elf I can understand, but a Dwarf... that just doesn't even make sense. That would be incredibly stupid.

No, I read on one of the Hobbit sites that Kili starts to have a crush on her, not her in in love with him. But of course, we all could be wrong.

It makes no sense either way to me because Elves and Dwarves despise one another. The friendship between Legolas and Gimli was supposed to be a rare and strange thing. Granted, in this case the elf is Evangeline Lily, but still...

More importantly, it weakens the dramatic impact of Gimli's encounter with Galadriel.

Yeah, that too... that's an excellent point.

I guess they are trying to go for some sort of tragic love angle, given that [BLACKOUT]Fili dies at the Battle of Five Armies, and Tauriel will almost certainly be there as part of the Mirkwood army[/BLACKOUT]. But I think the idea really sucks.

I don't know why it won't make sense to you. I would hope that even in Tolkein's world, Gimli and Legolas weren't the only ones to put aside petty prejudice. I don't know, but you just come across as a bit of a bigot with your statement.

I come across as a bigot for saying what the LOTR appendices state pretty plainly? Gimli is the only Dwarf to ever go across the sea with the elves, and that's due to his extraordinarily strange and rare friendship with Legolas. That's a fact.

It doesn't make sense in the internal logic of Middle Earth / Arda.

Really? Like seriously?

Not read tolkiens materiel have you? Dwarves snd elves had an extremely bad failing out in the past. A dwarf wouldnt piss on an elf if he was on fire and vice versa. Elrond and the high elves tend to be above this but the cultures despised each other. Gimli and legolas friendship was a very odd and rare thing in middle earth.

It just reeks of Hollywood. A very typical thing that will just clutter up the films and will unnecessary mirror and contradict what we saw in the LOTR.

Which is what makes their relationship so special in the Tolkien-verse. Having something as stupid as this proceed it is dumb.

Also, I like that apparently the romance has to happen with the one dwarf that looks nothing like a dwarf. So bad. I think this had to be a change made after Ronan turned the role down and they changed it up a bit. Back then it was made pretty clear the female Elf warrior was going to have a thing for one of her fellow Elves. With the age up, I think they changed it.

I agree, but that's probably just my subconscious suppressed bigotry rearing its head, and not a desire to, say, allow Gimli and Legolas' friendship in LOTR to retain its special impact and resonance in the story.

Their kids will never make it in Middle Earth.

Dwarves start shacking up with elves once they realize women are hotter without beards. It all makes sense now.

One of my favorite quotes in the trilogy is Gimli and Legolas exchange at the black gate.

Gimli: "Never thought id die fighting side by side with an elf."

Legolas: "How about side by side with a friend."

Gimli: "Aye. I could do that."

they have done this scenario plenty of times i don't see anything wrong with it

they did it in Troy

it's that forbidden love angle

Nothing is wrong with that angle per se, it is just that in this case it thematically undermines a lot of what happens in LOTR, particularly Gimli and Legolas' character development.

This isnt troy. This is middle earth and in middle earth it undermines an actual story of tolkiens and goes against the world the characters inhabit. It also goes against the LOTR films Jackson created so it makes even less sense.
