We can end up debating this for weeks gentlemen, but point-blank I believe Silva needs a win over GSP to secure that spot as GOAT. It needs to happen before his retirement and White is appealing to the idea for Silva's final fight on his contract. It would have happened earlier but we all know what transpired there. Assuming GSP beats Condit, I sincerely believe GSP's next fight will be with Silva.

gsp has way too many challengers now he should of done it before when he had no challengers but he kept back peddeling saying crap like oh i want time to put the weight on also he is gonna take on ellenberger after condit if he beats kampmann

he has challengers like

Ellenberger
Condit
Hendricks
Diaz

not to mention upcoming prospects coming out like

Rory McDonald
Erick Silva
Wonder Boy Thompson

Anderson may be 40 by the time they fight lol he turns 37 next month

Rory MacDonald? I don't think he'd fight a fellow teammate, training partner and pupil. It'd probably lead to immense tension. Just look at what happened inbetween Jones and Evans.

Dana is certainly considering the idea of Silva and GSP meeting, even if one party is unwilling. GSP is a smart fighter (outside fighting strategy), he wants no part of this because it has the potential stain his career and legacy. Silva, on the other hand, is just bored.

If Silva and GSP both win their respective bouts, there is a high probability that GSP-Silva will happen.

I'll believe the GSP vs. Silva thing when I see it. Too many times I've gotten my hopes up for that one now. I don't get why people call GSP a ***** either. It's not like he's ducking Anderson if he doesn't want to move up, and if he does you know damn well a few people would claim he's ducking them. Diaz especially.

GSP is no b***h. Sure, his fights aren't the most exciting in the sport nowadays and he doesn't take risks in the stand up department like he use to pre-Serra but the guy is a master of strategies and he's incredibly skilled. I mean he singlehandedly beat Koscheck and Shields with jabs.

Fighting Silva is a gargantuan risk for anyone. I perfectly understand why GSP is hesitant in signing the contract/deal to this fight. There's alot of risk involved here.

On a similar note, I'd like to see Diaz move up to the middleweight division and challenge Silva. His ass is in need of more humbling. Plus, it'd be a hell of a spectacle.

No, he wouldn't.

Silva is compared to Roy Jones Jr on a daily basis. There's no talk of him being compared to Ali. Fedor gets the Ali comparisons because he's a heavyweight.

You want to talk about undefeated streaks? Fedor's nearly lasted for a decade.
Yeah against competition like Hong Man Choi, Matt Lindland (CAREER MIDDLEWEIGHT JOURNEYMAN), and ****ing Zuluzinho. Anderson Silva never took fights that bad.

BTW Doomsday Apex, you do realize that Anderson Silva hasn't lost in over six years right. That loss was a DQ due to an illegal upkick. He hasn't been legit beaten in almost eight years. When all is said and done, his undefeated streak could likely be as long as TEN YEARS.

It doesn't matter. Fedor still has iconic wins over the other Two Sons of War (Nogueira and Cro Cop) and Arlovski.

In fact, Fedor-Cro Cop still stands till this day as the most anticipated and one of the greatest fights in MMA history. It's the equivalent of Ali-Frazier.

So what? Anderson Silva has a win over the only simultaneous divisional champion in MMA history, Dan Henderson. Also beat a former UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight champion in Vitor Belfort. Also beat Son of War Rich Franklin.

You're right, but I doubt he'll be around another two years. How many fights are left on his contract?

I've no idea. Earlier this month he said he'd fight another 10 years. That might not be serious or could be a joke, but honestly if he still wants to do it considering most of his damage/injuries likely come from training and he never really gets hurt or knocked or concussed from fights maybe he can fight into his 40's. He's never been knocked out. You can probably count the times he's been seriously hurt or knocked down on one hand.

The thing is, he's making serious bank now. He probably makes in the millions per fight. Now with Fox deal he's getting a ton more exposure. He's getting huge endorsement deals with Burger King. He's made appearances at Justin Bieber concerts and danced with the Bieb. For any fighter that is a tough thing to give up. Look at Chuck Liddell. Dana White basically had to force him to retire. Liddell became a huge name at the tail end of his career got a ton of mainstream exposure, movie and TV cameos, and started making lots of money but that was just as he peaked in his mid to late 30's. For a guy like Liddell who came from nothing and worked to get his name and was in the dark ages of MMA when the sport was literally dead and these guys got paid probably like $2K a fight or whatever that is hard to give up.

Anderson Silva has a big family and now when he's becoming more popular and a bigger star than ever to stop doing this when it's all he's ever known and it's giving him such huge returns I doubt he will be able to stop so easily as long as he is still smoking fools.

Point? That's why I said at the beginning of this debate that Silva's and Fedor's careers are almost similar -- only one major win stands in the way of Silva claiming the title of GOAT.

Both have/had long undefeated streaks and invincible auras, and both have wins over three dangerous/iconic opponents.

I'd love it if Anderson fought another ten years, if possible. He's rarely taken heavy and moderate damage in his fights and he lives a clean life so I believe it's possible.

Although Silva went on record a couple years back stating that he was looking forward to retirement, getting a gut and eating McDonalds, I assume he has adjusted and altered those plans now thanks to all that dough he's making. Seeing all those zeros probably made him delay retirement. It's incredibly tempting. I mean, who wouldn't keep the show going?

Liddell might have received the short end of the stick at the beginning and middle of his career but towards the end, Chuck had it good. He's got fame and considerable fortunate, and Dana loves the guy like family. Liddell is going to have a fantastic and well-earned retirement. The guy deserves it.

Silva will have had a better run and career than Fedor. He's beaten more sons of war than Fedor has. More title defenses. More battle tested.

I've interviewed these fighters a lot. For them it's not easy to do. More than just fighting but the thrill of winning to them is a drug and an addiction. When they win all they want is to win again to get that feeling back.

Even a career journeyman like Chris Lytle was making bank at the end of his UFC run and he finished his UFC run on a high run and won like his last 5 out of 6. Wouldn't surprise me if he tried to make a comeback run at some point if he doesn't get elected to public office.

The truth pisses people off sometimes because it's harsh and real.

Silva is MMA's Michael Jordan.

why do you keep bringing up arlovski saying it was an iconic win lol

lol, you say **** like it's fact but the truth is it's just your opinion.

I know you're too proud to give up this little battle with Doom but get real.

I think Anderson is the GOAT of MMA, but he's no Jordan. Jordan was just a force of nature in a sea of legends. Anderson has done the most amazing things in MMA, but MMA is so young that I couldn't call him Jordan. Ali comparisons make sense because of his crazy speed and chin, but part of an Ali comparison is the impact on the sport outside the ring. No one has really had that type of impact yet. I think Roy Jones is perfect for Anderson. Both vote clowned elite fighters so bad that they seemed to be using a cheat code.

Oh yeah...RJJ is a better boxer than Ali anyway. Come at me again bros.

I know right. I like Arlovski and he is a former champion and all but the dude was never that amazing and that much of an icon. Have to put guys like Frank Mir, Cain Velasquez, JDS above him.

Anderson Silva is a legend beater and he is also a force of nature. He submitted Hendo who is still one of the top fighters in the world to this day and is a living legend.
