I know, which is why I don't ever consider any sports figure to be a hero. I learned that the hard way back when I was kid. From that moment on, I was a strong believer in having no heroes in ANY field... other than fictional ones, of course.

I don't have a problem with Mir taking the spot, but I just don't see Mir surviving JDS' onslaught. Overeem, at least, presented a unique challenge in the stand up department. Mir's boxing/striking, on the other hand, isn't on the same level as JDS'.

Oh, it's damn true!

I heard Angle manhandled Lesnar a couple years back in a friendly freestyle wrestling match backstage. I, for one, believe it. Kurt was that gifted in Greco-Roman Wrestling.

Unfortunately, the closest we'll ever see Angle in MMA bout is in the film 'Warrior' (which is perhaps the greatest fighting movie ever made).

I'd believe that, Angle is after all an Olympic calibre freestyle wrestler.. a gold medal winning one at that. His grappling & control of guys would be second to none.. again he also has another what if cloud that hangs over him. He could have been a force in MMA as well had he went that route rather than to the WWE.

Of course having good wrestling doesn't mean he'd wipe the floor with everyone, but Angle seems like hes a very determined & tough mofo and Lesnar has heavyweight power & size with the speed & explosive ability of a Middleweight. If either of them had went straight into MMA after their wrestling careers I think both would have been very tough guys to beat after a few years training.

Overeem failed a drug test. NO! Likely he is out of UFC 146.

It is no shock whatsoever to me that Alistair Overeem failed a true random drug test. It's different when he knows the tests are coming up moments after a fight or before a fight.. but when a test is just randomly sprung on you without warning, that's a true drug test & unsurprisingly, he failed.

I have said previously that I believe Overeem had used or was using steriods during the duration of his career largely due to his rapid increase in size.

It's true that sometimes with the right diet & hard work you can gain significant muscle in a fairly short period of time depending on your body which differs from person to person. However for me personally, I've always been sceptical on whether or not Overeem managed to put on a good 40lbs-50lbs of solid 100% muscle in the such a short period of time which turned him from Anderson Silva size LHW to Brock Lesnar size HW.

It kinda puts a massive black mark over all of the wins in his current winning streak, in particular his win that got him the UFC title shot against Brock due to the problems & excuses he had with providing a drug test when the NSAC asked for one prior to that bout.

EDIT - Here we go Dana White seething over Overeem failed drug test

The Dutch heavyweight made his UFC debut last December, beating former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar in the UFC 141 main event in Las Vegas. His appearance wasn’t without controversy, however.
Overeem missed a drug test in Nevada, saying he had flown back to Holland to be with his sick mother. A pair of drug tests conducted in Europe were then mishandled until he eventually submitted a sample to an accredited lab. He passed that test, along with a subsequent test in Nevada prior to UFC 141, and was granted a conditional license. Among the conditions of that license, he would be subjected to random tests throughout 2012.

In light of his recent failure the excuses/problems with his 141 drug test have alot less credibility & increased reasons to be suspicious as if we needed anymore..

Mir should be the obvious choice to fight JDS. Cain just lost to him in November. Werdum is only on a one fight win streak, and Bigfoot is coming off a loss. Mir is on a decent run of late, and he's very credible.

So there's only 11 people in MMA?
Before he started crushing cans at heavyweight, he had a pretty bad record. He lost to Ricardo Arona, Rogerio Nogueira, Shogun twice, Chuck Liddell, and many more.

could say same about chael

past losses dont bother me as i am always with the what have you done for me lately camp

Can't say I'm surprised. I wonder who's gonna get busted next?

I'm not saying it's surprising that Overeem failed his drug test, but I really wanted to see this fight. Anyone think the UFC will drop Overeem?! They were really relying on Overeem after using him to beat Lesnar, and betting that he'd be their new cash-cow. Sucks.

I don't think they will. If Overeem and his team handle this right I think they will bring him back. If this happened say, the week of the fight like with Marquardt, yeah I think it'd be gone. The good news is it happened about two months out instead of just days. So they have time to make a replacement.

If Overeem doesn't come clean and tries to act like King Mo, then he's goneskies.

I don't think Overeem should be cut after one offense. Plenty of guys have gotten busted and stuck around, so he at least deserves a second chance. Hell Leben has been busted multiple times. Sure they were different substances, but he violated the policy twice.

I say let them go at it and allow JDS to roid up all the way up until he steps into the cage. If I'm gonna pay $50 dollars for a fight, then I want a real show dammit. I want my athletes, fierce, aggressive, violent, foaming at the mouth and on the border of liver failure as they step into the ring!

Sorry CrypticOne, but real MMA unlike in Pride has rules and regulation against cheating.

One reason guys need TRT now is likely due to previous steroid abuse.

It was a joke, my friend.

Could you imagine the ****storm that would ensue if Dos Santos or Overeem's replacement would test positive a week before the fight?

It's happened. Both Hermes and Sherk were both busted for juicing shortly after their title bout.

Well to be more specific.

Marquardt had failed his test and couldn't get licensed like a week up until his fight with Rick Story. The fight fell and UFC Fight Night main event basically fell apart. That wasn't a big PPV.

Also Josh Barnett failed his test not long before he was scheduled to fight Fedor on the third AFFLICTION PPV. The fight and card fell apart as a result. Affliction stopped promoting MMA after that and went back to being a UFC sponsor a short time later.

I heard that Mark Hunt is getting the title shot. I haven't found it confirmed anywhere, but imagine that.

Where did you hear that?

I honestly can't believe it will be Hunt. It's got to be Mir. 3 fight winning streak. Two time UFC champion. Most UFC heavyweight wins ever. Easy fight to sell.

People have been saying it on Twitter. Ariel Halwani and some other people.

Nah, I don't think they should remove Mir from his fight with Velasquez, because what do they do with him, then? Isn't Hunt on a streak? I think three too.

But yeah, you're right. Mir is easy to sell and that is what likely is going to happen.

Hunt's on a streak but I mean, the dude lost to Sean McCorkle in his UFC debut. Yeah he's looked good lately but that's amongst lower level competition. The guy he just knocked out FYI is a guy that Frank Mir submitted in less than a minute on PPV.

Cain could fight Antonio Silva instead. Or if Werdum is willing, they could move up Werdum to fight Cain and keep the other fights. Cain/Werdum could easily be made a top contenders fight and the winner could fight for the title.

And don't get me wrong. I like Mark Hunt. But that fight with Ben Rothwell for example is awful.

I think he might match up well with JDS since they are both strikers, but Hunt is awful on the ground.

You know what I find funny? Every time a fighter gets busted for PEDs there are always people claiming that every fighter is on roids. Well 6 fighters get randomly tested and only 1 of them gets busted. That's probably the percentage of people out there in MMA using PEDs. Now I bet someone will say that guys cycle, use masking agents, and that the high quality stuff doesn't get tested, but don't you think Overeem would have thought of that too? I think this should end those crazy exaggerations about rampant PEDs in MMA. Sure there are certainly more guys using than the ones who get busted, but not as much as some people would like to believe.

It's hard to tell. I'm totally fine with more random drug testing if that will root out the cheaters and show maybe even that yeah maybe only 1 out of 6 or 10 is juicing.

Now it sucks it was Overeem and a big fight falls apart. But like Dana White says, you got to be stupid for doing it.

You would think, if Overeem did whatever the hell he did, that how much bigger can you get?! The guy is huge! Big mistake by him. I don't really like heavyweights anyway. A very shallow division where they are talking of Mark Hunt getting a title shot now.

It had nothing to do with getting bigger. Overeem just took PEDs to enhance his abilities. This title shot was sort of a big deal to his career so he was probably seeking any advantage he could.

Shallow?

Del Rosario, Werdum, Velasquez, Dos Santos, Nelson, Mir, Silva, Carwin and Overeem (pre-bust). That sounds like a stacked division to me.
