Old MCU Fantastic Four Discussion Thread

I just don't want the whole first film to be their origin, but I'd be fine with:

Option A: Similar to FF #1, they have their powers, but nobody knows who they are yet. Origin is briefly shown in flashback.

Option B: Introduce them in other films and either show or mention their space-flight, then they'll already be established for their own film.

Option C: Just start with them as an established, known team. "We're the Fantastic Four, b**ch."

I'm fine with any of those as long as it works with how they'll be integrated into the MCU.

The only thing I don't want is another full-length origin film, and I don't think there's any need for it.
A flashback to their origin would work for me, or just a small part of the first film dedicated to it with the rest taking place in present day. I'd also prefer to see individual members introduced in other films but with knowledge that they are F4 members.

maybe have them show up in Spider-man 2

maybe Peter Parker and his science buddies get invited to the Fantastic Fours maiden space fight ,

then throughout the movie , Have Peter Parker following the events on the news throughout the movie

This is why it's a bummer that it will take so long to work out the legal details. Reed would fit perfectly into IW as he helped create a space-craft to try to use against the invading alien forces.

But there's almost no way they'll have the full rights in time.

... but they could film a couple quick scenes and only use them if they have the rights before the final edit.:sly:

Although they need time for things to be official and work out the legal details, can't they treat it somewhat like an engagement or marriage?

When you're married, you're legally entitled to certain things. But when you're engaged (or even before that stage), you can still share things between you unofficially as a gesture of good will.

While things will only be legally official in maybe a year's time, can't Disney and Fox still share properties between themselves now that they are in a relationship of sorts?

If there were no merger at all and Fox just wanted to lend Disney some characters, then they would have the freedom to do so. Can it not be treated in the same way in the intervening time?

Unfortunately, they'll actually be more restricted during the review process than they were before.

If, before the deal, they had decided they wanted to share characters or combine films or universes and both sides agreed, they'd just do it. The only thing preventing Tony Stark from showing up in Deadpool is that neither Fox, nor Marvel would have allowed it.

But there are laws that prevent companies in the process of a purchase from working together, and to avoid any appearance of impropriety they will probably want to avoid working together in any way.

BUT (and this is a key point) there's nothing preventing Marvel from filming scenes that include Reed Richards, Victor Von Doom, Ben Grimm etc. Anyone can film a scene with Reed Richards. It's only when it comes to publishing/distributing that film that Fox lawyers could step in with a 'cease and desist'.

So Marvel can film all the scenes they want now. They'd just be risking the money spent to film those scenes if they can't actually use them by the release date.

If it's about avoiding the appearance of impropriety, then couldn't Fox potentially film the footage themselves, of course with Marvel's secret guidance and approval?

Marvel and Fox will still have to have some dealings and meetings together. And who is to say what could go on at these meetings? They could still discuss some things they would like to do together. It can't be that they never meet whatsoever in this period. It would be like a couple going off and leading their own separate lives until they are legally married.

And while they might want to avoid working together, that doesn't mean that have to work against each other. Fox doesn't need to start developing or even filming these other sequels or films in their X-Universe.

A couple who are not yet married shouldn't mean that they go out and sleep with everyone and anyone in the meantime. They may not be able to function together fully as one unit yet, but it doesn't mean they need to go and do actions completely contrary to the relationship.

can't wait to hear something form Kevin Feige

but then I'm still trying to figure out how the rest of Sony's characters like Venom , Black Cat and Silver Sable all fit into the MCU

They could make that argument, but nobody is going to want risk a multi-billion dollar deal just to get a head start. I may have understated it when I said an "appearance of impropriety", it's really an "appearance of illegal behavior".

When my wife's company was buying another company, she was specifically told not to talk to people in the other company until the purchase was finalized. She had known some of them prior and talked to them prior, so it wouldn't have been a change in her behavior to continue talking with them, but after the review process started, a simple phone call could be illegal and could scuttle the deal.

Ok. So no contact whatsoever. But surely there must still be some business meetings?

Otherwise, I can imagine at the Academy Awards next year Bob Iger completely ignoring Rupert Murdoch. "I don't know this man whatsoever! We have never met! My mom told me never to talk to strangers!" :o

But they don't have to work against each other.

:funny:

I'm pretty sure that if Murdoch picked up the phone and invited Iger to a friendly lunch tomorrow, Iger would say: "Sorry Rupe, but we probably shouldn't do that."

I kind of agree with this. This Sony "Spider-Universe" has failure written all over it.

Another reboot but in the MCU again? What?

Honestly Venom sounds like it'll be really good. Just look at the cast!

Woody Harrelson would make good Carnage.......................probaby

How about Benjamin Walker or James Wolk for Ben Grimm?

I could say the same about the two ASM movies. And they were crap.

The first ASM movie was good, but opinions and all that. They weren't as good of casts as Venom either.

Venom arguably has a better cast than any of the MCU movies so far, except maybe Ragnarok

I don't think we'll see the origin again. Every time there's been a new version of the FF we've had it. It was in the Corman movie, the 2005 Story movie and then in Fant4stic in 2015. Three out of 4 films have had the origin now. It would make it as if there are no other good FF stories out there to tell and that Marvel are creatively dried up.

At most we'd get a quick montage recap like the opening sequence of the Incredible Hulk. That's all that is needed, or a quick slide show like when Tony Stark was awarded man of the year in the beginning of Iron Man 1.

I'd have Reed in front of a Senate committee investigating his "trip".

He says they went into space. Had engine trouble and came back unsuccessful. Have the actual events flashing in-between(cosmic rays, Ben changing).

Boom go.

maybe Reed and crew are already on some space station thingy and get caught up in a bunch of cosmic rays when Thanos and friends show up in Infinity War and the space station comes crashing to the earth and the four somehow survive

That could work.

Can namor appear like hulk? As in, he can't have his own movie but he can appear in other people's movies? It would definitely be fun to have a Daniel dae Kim type namor pitching woo at Susan storm in fantastic four 3 or something

Yes I think that's the case. Though I would save him for the Ff sequel.

Namor is already rumored to show up in Avengers IW or Part 4

Yeah I haven't heard that. Don't tell me it's our old mate el mayimbe
