I took the rare opportunity to read one of Dread's posts, as this one didn't take 30 seconds to scroll to the bottom of, like most of Dread's musings. Unfortunately, the same tune is sung for about the 30 billionth time, as Dread is *gasp* denying that he is a conservative but still saying that he's really sick of liberal politics. Which is totally fine, I can see a person in that situation, but really, does he need to whine about it in nearly every post? I think at this point, with no end in sight to the liberal media bias, that he should probably just kill himself. Also, he used the word "brake" instead of "break." C'mon Dread, if you must express yourself, do it correctly. We want untarnished memories of you when you leave this world for politically neutral heaven.Dread said:So aside for Vindicator, it looks like most of Alpha Flight did indeed end up as Collective fodder, eh?
The name OMEGA FLIGHT doesn't irk me so much as Alpha Flight used to have offshoot teams of simular names back in the past, like Beta Flight or Gamma Flight, where they trained recruits (like Persuasion and Diamond Lil, who have both been shafted to limbo).
As for the roster, it looks like this has a few Marvel characters do what every whiney, loudmouth Liberal promised to do if Bush won re-election, and not a one of them did; move to Canada. And I know none of them did that because I'm sure if enough did, they'd have gotten the attention of SOME Canadian newspaper or TV station (not all Canucks are fans of Bush either) and naturally our own media circus would have caught wind and made them Messiahs. But that never happened, so I guess "Bush America" ain't that bad. And no, I'm not a Republican, just I've gotten quite tired of the overkill of Liberalist jargon over the past few years, and as Marvel is choosing to magnify and express the current political climate in their stories, that means I'll have to deal with it again and again. I read comics to escape that stuff, not to find yet another place to lecture me on Liberal dogma. I know it all by heart now. I go to college. It's impossible to attend an American college and NOT be bombarded with those ideals. They're great. Just can't I get a brake? I'm almost willing to move to the wilderness for a year because I know the trees, owls and bears won't be gathering in a circle and telling me for the upteenth time how "bad Bush's America has gotten".
Whew. I digressed.
As for the line-up, it looks like we have two Alpha members Talisman and Vindicator (of course, whether that is Hudson in there is another story, he's been replaced before), as well as Beta Ray Bill, Arachnae and a "Cap" stand-in. I agree that I doubt Cap is joining a team where he is not the leader, and plus I doubt he'd leave NA. So it may be USAgent. Do I believe for a second that Winter Soldier would suddenly go "good" and take on the mantle? No. Marvel doesn't do legacy heroes. They haven't to the best of my memory and never will. The most they've had is a bunch of people calling themselves "Capt. Marvel". Legacy VILLIANS, on the other hand, they have quite a few.
I haven't read Oeming's BETA RAY BILL or ARES stuff, but I may give the first issue of this a gander, depending. At least bouncing off COLLECTIVE and CW will give a Flight title an actual direction, as most revemps of the book could never get beyond, "Hey, we're Canadian!"

Darthphere said:Ok, but whos to say those are the copies.![]()
King_Mungi said:...you havn't been reading my posts have you?
Darthphere said:Yeah, I have. But you must realize who wrote the Collective arc where Alpha Flight died. I highly doubt Bendis even knows or read those isues you posted. For all we know, those are the real deal.
King_Mungi said:When they died, he made comments about vol.3 at his message board. He knows about it
supermarvelman said:Well he probably didn't know, but thats the beauty of it. He thinks he's killed off the real Alpha Flight, but he hasn't. So that means Marvel won't even have to retcon the **** that happened, they can easily bring Alpha Flight back and say "they where in space when the **** hit the fan". Even if the real (present) Alpha Flight kicked the bucket, the ones from the past are still real which means they are usable, and there is no need for a retcon.
Alpha Flight lives.

Dread no offense. If you don't read comics to be preached to about politics don't come to an Alpha Flight thread to preach about politics. There is a time and place for political discussion and it's called the "Official Ultimates thread".Dread said:So aside for Vindicator, it looks like most of Alpha Flight did indeed end up as Collective fodder, eh?

There's one problem with this theory; Bendis gets what he wants. Always. If he wanted THE Alpha Flight dead at the hands of the Collective, then it'll happen. As for time-displaced clones, I'm willing to bet he probably didn't know about that plot point (as the last stab at AF was a few years ago and wasn't exactly a blockbuster seller), and as his editors apparently are bobblehead-dolls (that can only nod "yes"), I doubt anyone reminded him. So if you want to use the "temporal clone" stuff to revive the entire team, hopefully Oeming wants to do that, or Marvel's editorial board wants it.supermarvelman said:Well he probably didn't know, but thats the beauty of it. And I agree that despite the cliches, Puck is like the team's mascot. It's like yanking Ronald McDonald from McDonald's and replacing him with, oh, a gun toting muscle man named X-Treme McGun. It's hard picturing them without that buff little fella who hops around and never gives up. But I always liked Vindicator more anyway.
King_Mungi said:When he "killed" them off he made direct comments about vol.3 and a lot of people called him up on the temporal copies so he knows.
Well as I mentioned earlier Puck's nearly indestructable and invulnerable to harm so don't count him out yet. If your talking about James Hudson he goes by Guardian, and his wife goes by Vindicator
Darthphere said:I think theyve both gone by the same name. Once when James "died" or something.
