The Dark Knight On Attack of the Show...

I agree, the first two are pretty much just bashing the guy for previous work whereas the third one points out the one thing Ledger and all of us have to worry about: His possible inability to relate to the Joker as he's portrayed in the comics. I sure hope he's doing some cramming sessions while on set.

Since I'm the one that brought up that concern on the show, thanks I appreciate it. I sure hope he's doing some cramming sessions as well.

Lord knows that when I think of intelligent film critics who defenitely know what they're talking about, I think of Attack of the Show. And I'm sure all the people on that show are there because they're too good to be in the film business, and all their constructive criticism should be taken very seriously, because, as we all know, they're the experts. They're on G4. They must know what they're talking about.

By the way, remember when G4 used to have shows about video games? Me neither.

G4 is a channel filled with fanboys and geeks just like us. They can hardly be considered "the media".

G4 used to be a great channel filled with geeks and fanboys back when it was Tech TV. Now it's just a Spike TV knock off. For every bit of information they have about a videogame or movie or tech they have 10 episodes of Cops and Cheaters. Attack of the Show used to be a lot better too when it was the Screen Savers and had Kevin Rose. It was still good after it became Attack of the Show but now they have just gone so far away from their roots its not appealing anymore. The only good thing they do is their coverage of E3.

Why does an actor NEED to read comics before he gets a role?

And the rest of that crap on the show was just ignorant fanboy babble. "Brokeback Batman"? Welcome to summer 06' jackass. "A Knight's Tale"? You call this criticism. It's just a bunch of geeks trying to be cool and funny.

Did Jack Nicholson read comics before getting the Joker?

Yeah. If you miss TechTV I suggest you get into podcasts. Goto revision3.com and check out the different shows they have. Kevin is on there as well as Martin Sargeant. I've been staying away from G4 for the same reasons that you stated.

Thanks for the site I'll check it out. Gametrailers.com also has some good shows on it.

isnt it funny that a lot of people have a problem that ledger doesnt know the comics?
you do all know that he is the one who was honest right? you think it is true that tobey was a fan of spiderman, affleck a daredevil fan?
come on guys. 3 weeks ago i saw an interview with cage. he said that he is lucky that he didnt play superman because he like ghost rider. bull....it. he is one of the biggest superman fans. but studios tell those actors that in public they need to be comic fans.

ledger is honest and thats a problem?

I really appreciate that Ledger was being honest. Anyways, Cillian Murphy probably didn't read any comics about Scarecrow or neither did Michelle Pfeifer with Catwoman, and they were GREAT. You don't need to be a die-hard fan to perform well.

None of the points they bring up seem like valid reasons to dislike it. It would have been much more effective to just say that it's not a direct translation from the comics, and that they didnt' agree with that.

I don't really mind that Heath Ledger will be the Joker. I remember him best from '10 Things I Hate About You'.

The main thing, though, is that Nolan did a great job with casting the first film and I have a level of trust with him.

I do need to qualify that, however. I'm not a Bermejo fan and his Joker wouldn't be the model I'd personally use for the make-up.

By that same token Nicholson, who I love, is NOT my Joker. Never was. Never will be. I have an actor that I was using to do an amatuer film (it never got finished, so don't ask to see it) who is the Joker to me. My take was that the chemicals badly bleached and burned his skin. The grin was just a maniacal affectation.

I still am not a fan of the Nolan costume but Nolan did so well getting the characters that I overlooked it. Joker having his face cut like the picture of Ledger will be a little bit of distraction but, if he get's the character, I'll be able to overlook it.
