WWE Seeking Partnership with US Olympics, Talents Encouraged for School

By Marc Middleton on 06/14/2012

- WWE is trying to open a relationship with the US Olympic committee so they will have an "in" for prospective Olympic athletes who either don't quite make the team or those who do well but are in sports where there are no professional leagues.

WWE would be interested in the wrestlers, of course, but the feeling is they would also be interested in making stars out of weight men such as shot putters, discus throwers or Olympic lifters.

- FCW brought in 23 to 35 athletes this past week - some experienced independent wrestlers but mostly successful college wrestlers that were recruited by Gerald Brisco. The wrestlers were told if they are signed by WWE, they would value them more if they continued and finished their studies in college as opposed to quitting school and starting in developmental right away.

WWE is talking about doing similar tryouts in foreign countries such as the UK and Australia.

Wow, that's so ridiculous! And they're ALL the same cena figure. Jeez, mix in some variety.

My nephew collects wrestling figures and has a ton. I hate going with him when all they have are the same ol sh**!!!

While some of the best talents in FCW (Seth Rollins, Antonio Cesaro, Kassius Ohno, Dean Ambrose) came from the independent scene, there is a belief that the indy scene is not producing enough talent with WWE potential.

That belief along with Triple H building his management team with people experienced in other sports gives you an idea of his direction with developmental. They are going with the idea that signing top level athletes and teaching them to be wrestlers will develop the kind of marquee guys that can be Superstars.

Wow, that's just.....
I know kids like John Cena but that's just overdoing it on the case pack-outs.
Would it hurt them to pack out some Divas a little more? I have had THE hardest time trying to get those.

It's what we toy collectors call the "Batman Syndrome;" when an action figure line becomes all about just variants of the main protaganist (i.e. Arctic Freeze Batman, Night Stealth Batman, Armor Patrol Batman, etc.).

The good thing is, adult collectors can usually get what they want because they have ready access to the internet and off-the-grid retailers, but for kids it must suck to walk into Toys R Us and see nothing but Cena everywhere.

John Cena's face when kids see all his action figures in stock.

That's because Batista demanded Mattel that he get all of the divas action figures.

I think they melted down all the diva action figures to make more Cena ones.

But that's all you need, right? You can stage matches that are otherwise impossible in real life, like Cena in the purple shirt vs. Cena in the green shirt! That's clearly what every WWE fan wants, right? :(

makes me REALLY glad WWF didn't make Austin Chilly McFreeze.

Cenasaurus Rex! Tricenatops! Pteranacena! Cena-toothed tiger! Woolly Cenadon! Merge to form MegaCena!

This wont get you the next HBK and Steve Austin, it'll get you guys like Brock and Goldberg who have no passion for the business.

I was thinking that myself. Its a real crapshoot. You can't always take top athletes and entice them with money and hope to teach them how to be a wrestler. The best thing is the best of both worlds. Go after good athletes and people who want to be wrestlers or good athletes who want to be wrestlers. More guys like Dolph Ziggler.

The way Cena is booked sometimes I think this is actually possible:

Woulda broke out the Galactus, but he's way in the back of the Marvel display.

How dare you!

In regards to the WWE wanting an agreement with the United States Olympic Committee...the USOC will laugh in their face.
