is the selling of trade paperbacks from Marvel now. In the 90's they were very rare and almost never done but thanks to Quesada there's a tpb for everything now and it's really helped me keep up. I love paperbacks alot more than just collecting issue to issue.

Yeah, but thanks to that issue to issue collectors like myself hafta suffer stories MADE fer TPBs that lack any and all epic story tellin', suffer from decompression, and give a crappy readin' experience every month.

If you are a serious fanboy single comic issues will be your bread and butter.
No real comic fan waits six months for a story to be completed and released as a trade.
Part of the fun is speculating over a month what will happen in the next issue.
Also comics if bought at a high grade gain value, trades do not.

It is great though to pick up arcs that rule as a trade or HC.

It's lame cost wise as well. Here in Canada while our exchange has become more intune with you guy's (We still pay .50 to book, even though we print our own) the trades haven't dropped , so instead of paying 15.15 for an Ultimate Spider-Man trade priced at 13.5 american, we get to pay 21.50. Six more for something we print ourselves, but wouldn't matter if we didn't because WE HAVE FREE TRADE!!!.

Amazingly, premiere trades from both companies are extremely cheap. I bought the Infinite Crisis Hardcover for less than a paperback Ultimate Deadpool, on the shelf next to it.

Interesting.
Here in England, whatever Sensational SM costs in dollars it translates to £1.65.
Not too bad, that's the same price that FNSM is too.
While MAX books are priced £2.25 I think.

I do appreciate the trade market. It really helps if I look to get hard-to-find backissues that happen to be in TPB form.

Trades are a good thing and a bad thing. I love trades when I find a series that I like and I have a lot of catching up to do. Though I dislike them when they cause the single issue comics to be borefests because every damn title these days has to have a six issues story arc, heh.

Books like Y the Last Man and 100 Bullets I caught up on with trades, but once I caught up I HAD to buy the single issues because I CANNOT wait like 9 months for the next trade to come out.

Quesada has done a lot of good things, and bad things. He's become an easy scapegoat for comic fans to point out when things don't go their way.

Besides the occasional, and unfortunate, trend WOLVERINE2TH and SIAT mentioned, I love trades, myself. If not for my desire to support the creators and industry by buying issues, I'd probably be exclusive to trades. And Marvel is tons better at getting them out quickly and efficiently than DC, so  for that.

i prefer issue to issue myself i have NO USE WHATSOEVER for decompressed storytelling:spidey:

While I'm not as cheerful bout Quesada's reign as EIC (surprised?), you do have a point. In fact, from what I understand, taking the EIC job is like painting a target on your back.

Aloha,
Not to sound elitist but the fact remains-you cannot be a comic book collector with trades or scans-you MUST collect the original comic or HC. Both of those have the potential of going up in value. I cannot think of a Trade that ever went up in value.Trades are GREAT for gifts and introducing potential comic book collectors into the fold. It's a win-win.

you're right about that, and I'm thankful for it, but all the other crap he's done completely outweighs that.

I think the conversation ends right here

Is the rise of Marvel TPBs really a Quesada thing? Because the whole industry is releasing TPBs more regularly these days. Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, Image, etc. etc. There are very few companies that don't release their books in collected format anymore.

Just because it's a trade, doesn't mean there's decompressed storytelling. I buy Invincible, Walking Dead, and Girls in trade, and they're all series with very expansive story lines that go on for much longer than a mere 6 issues.

Preach it.

The only trades I buy are those that are collected issues which I cannot afford (essentials)or simply something that I'm not willing to pay the Hardcover price for...(Dark Knight Returns). Aside fromt hat, I'm an issue to issue man. If anythign, I buy hardcovers of issues I already have so that I don't read them ragged! Wanted, USM, Ultimates, Spider-Man: Blue, etc.

I still have to get the Marvel Zombies Hardcover, now that I think about it.
