One More Day Discussion Thread

For the last time, history hasn't been erased, it's only been changed slightly. Any moments relating to the marriage have been rewritten into...something else. But for the most, the main story elements of the past 20 years remain the same. For example, someone brought up Morlun and the spider totem, which are both untouched by OMD--they had nothing to do with the marriage. Hell, MJ wasn't even in ASM during that arc.

dude 20 years of love has been erased, all for an old woman who was content to die.

Do you PROMISE it's the last time you'll say that, because since it's completely inaccurate... it's beginning to grate.

You just don't even make sense. "Any moments relating to the marriage have been rewritten" Where? Into what? Are we supposed to GUESS at what the actual history is like JMS and lil' Joey have been? You named ONE arc unaffected by this. Way to back up your nonsensicle statements!

Angel from the buffyverse did the same reality warp thing to give his YOUNG son conner a chance at new life but conner was a teenager with his whole life ahead of him, May is a very old woman.

Yes, and that absolutely made sense for those characters and was completely in line with previous characterization.

I'd say bringing someone back from the dead is a whole lot more than just changing history slightly.

and lest we forget it was MJ who agreed to the deal and even offered something else to Mephisto....

she agreed because she loves [loved] her husband, love that no longer exists. It was the greatest sacrifice a superhero girlfreind/wife has ever made.

Not to mention the facts that 1) Connor was literally about to kill himself and about a dozen others when Angel did that, and 2) Connor made it pretty clear that he wished he'd had a real chance at life instead of getting carted off to a hell dimension and then having his head ****ed with by pretty much everyone he met afterward. Peter, on the other hand, was told by the person he wanted to save not to save her. May was ready to die, content in the knowledge that she'd led a long life, been a good person, and raised a good man--d'oh, except she didn't do that last part, apparently, 'cause he just made a deal with the mother****ing devil for his own selfish gain. Oh well, two out of three ain't bad. :o

I think it was written that way to make sure everyone was on Peters side and to maybe demonize MJ a little bit....deflect some of the blowback about the storyline

LOVES**

she still remembers everything from what I read

MJ agreed to the deal....not him...and it wasnt like they invited him over...Mephisto just popped in to do business

Regarding the fallout of the marriage's erasure: I'd be inclined to agree that the damage to the timeline is fairly small-scale and that unless specifically noted, we can just guess that everything from the past 20 years went down the same, only without MJ there. But then I'd be creating a giant elephant in the room out of Harry Osborn, who's alive again for no apparent reason because of the marriage's erasure. It's one thing for Marvel to say, "Don't worry about it, continuity's mostly the same and everything still makes sense, just without MJ" and then follow through on that. It's quite another to tell us that and then throw us a giant nonsensical change right after telling us that.

after MJ basically told him to do it and even sweetened the pot with something else....I wonder what that was.....anyone want to venture a guess??

An offer to be Mephisto's demonic concubine for eternity.

What? It's not like she's married or anything. :o

Oh, you mean they didn't call the devil? Well, gosh, why didn't you say so? Making deals with the ultimate evil is perfectly fine if you don't give him a ring beforehand.

One more day should of been about peter finally growing up, and learning to be a Man. IMo he has never trully done the latter, this story should of been about M.J. finding out shes pregnant again [or the old kid comeing back] and with the end of one life, should of been the begginning of a new one. Spider-man stories has always been about things like that, in the past Peter could never fix his problems with a magic wish or deal with the devil, he had to accept them and still strive to be a hero. Hell, Peter could very well wish uncle ben back to life next time, will he give up his powers for that shady deal or his heroic career?

Haha, Spider-Man having a child in 616 continuity? Please. :o

I think what irks me even beyond the sheer stupidity of OMD is the fact that there are literally about three or four other continuities available for public consumption where Peter isn't married. There's Ultimate Spider-Man, there's Marvel Adventures Spider-Man, there's Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane, and soon there'll be the Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon. So there's really only a 1 in 5 chance of any given person looking at a Spider-Man story and finding a married Peter. Yet somehow that's still not enough. Sure, he still digs MJ in most of those other continuities, but it's the actual marriage that ages him, according to Joe Q. That's just plain greedy, isn't it?

Mephisto is quite particular about housecalls..he likes tea....so I usually try to have some around if he does swing by

Is this the same mephesto from ghost rider?

Who, now? Ain't no Mephisto in Ghost Rider anymore, chief. Lucifer took over there, and Ghost Rider's an angel now. Try to keep up. I'm not even reading that **** and I know all that about it. :o

Bah, you're a filthy devil-worshiper yourself. That explains all your semantical hang-ups and trying to transfer the blame to the woman. Bet you're not a big fan of Eve either, huh? ;)

but the original one who gave him the powers, who he made a deal with, same guy?

the question now is how this is gonna affect everything Peter has done since his supposed non marridge...

how does this affect his relationship with Tony Stark...

I mean they have to effectively rewrite every SM story in the last 20 years...

this is a major **** you to loyal Spidey fans...not to mention how can you identify with a hero thats willing to make deals with the Devil just to do something that everyone else knew was wrong to satisfy his own selfish needs...

For my money? You can't. S'why my money's going to other comics for the foreseeable future.
but the original one who gave him the powers, who he made a deal with, same guy?
Dunno. Might've been retconned to be Lucifer as well, actually. The few issues I did read of the current series seem to indicate that Johnny and Lucifer have a long and contentious relationship.

Do you have reading comprehension problems? Quesada pretty clearly said that what OMD did was alter pieces of Spidey's history, as opposed to completely restarting it. I know you have some kind of pathetic hatred towards Quesada and everything he says, but I'd take his explanation (you know, ACTUAL REASON) over the unsupported rantings of a disgruntled fanboy.
