Transformers OPTIMUS PRIME : Appreciation Thread

guys, it's still gonna be two years until the sequel comes. we all know how crucial cullen's voice is to this franchise. better pray that his delivery will still hold up for the two sequels. i've heard him do a line in some press conference ("autobots...transform...and roll out"), and even with just that single line, he already seemed out of breath.

here's hoping his voice and delivery won't age some more in the ensuing years...

Really? How old is he now?

I just remember what the theater said the time was, they had it listed at 2hrs and 23min, but that could be with previews and all that fun stuff, either way it went by way to quick.:woot:

I think the actual movie is 126 mins, and yes it flew by!

I don't think we will see a sequel until July 2010, 3 years seems to be about the right amount of time between movies, but with the writers strike coming it could be longer. I hope Cullen and his voice hold up for the two sequels, it was totally amazing hearing his voice as OP, but that is scary if he is that out of breath after saying that line. YIKES!

Lets hope so, he was a BIG factor in the awesomeness of the first movie, and i agree 3 years seems to be about the right time, saying that though, Spidey 2 was out only 2 years after Spidey 1 and was a better movie IMO.

Don't know if this has been posted yet, but did anyone notice that we NEVER get a full shot of Prime transfoming from robot to semi..? It was always from Semi to robot. When he first scans the semi upon arrival we get a glimpse of it but that's it. Just realised that!

Yes but they did Spiderman 1 and 2 almost back to back and I agree SM2 was much better, IMO one of the best superhero films ever. I think they should have done that with Spiderman 3 because the extra year sure didn't help it from sucking :cmad: 3 years is fine with me, that is enough time to watch the first on DVD over and over and then be ready for a new movie, please just get a good story and show lot's of the bots.

Your actually right,but i don't think people really mind that..or even care.

To be honest i never noticed, and it doesnt bother me either, i'm sure it is something we will see in a sequel.

Actually, they werent shot anywere near back to back, Maguire shot Seabiscuit in between Spidey 1 and 2 remember, hence the rumours about him leaving Spidey 2 due to back problems (or a pay dispute, depending on which rumour you believe). So there was quite a lot of time between Spidey 1 coming out and Spidey beginning filming.

Optimus was awesome in the movie. His portrayal. Bay and co. deserve a pat on the back for having the sense to bring back Peter Cullen.

^I agree, anyone else doing the voice just wouldnt have been the same IMO.

Plus, Prime got to do some awesome things, like building surfing after catching Sam falling :woot:.

Maguire shot Spidey 1, then went and shot Seabiscuit which was a 6 month shoot, and then took a few weeks off due to his back (or salary dispute, I guess $15 million was not enough :cwink: ) and shot Spidey 2 which was the only reason it did not open in May 2004, in all it was about 6 to 9 months in between filming the two films.

I agree CB4, Cullen as OP was the way to go and Bay and everyone involved deserve a great deal of thanks from all of us TF fans.

So it shows a good sequel can be done in a short space of time, but i think TF2 may need more special effects than Spidey 2 did. I hope TF2 gets a $200 or more budget like Spidey 2 did though!

I agree 100%, plus I think that Sony had a plan to shoot them with that timeline put in to the actors contracts. On the subject of TF2, we won't see it before 2010, I think the budget will be $200 million for sure, I do not see how it could not be, the WW Box Office is close to $700 million, it is going to be huge on DVD making even more $$$, all signs are pointing to yes :woot: Just please have a good story.

^2010? Are you kidding me..?

Why would I be kidding? If this is going to be a franchise for Paramount / Dreamworks and the most common amount of time between films for other franchises has been 3 years, why would July 2010 not be right? It is just my best guess and could change depending on the upcoming writers strike.

Wow, I never realized that. I just went back over the film and checked. Good eye! Although it has no effect on how I feel about the movie..it was still a good catch.:trans:

Yeah...2010 isn't that long off...Even 2011 doesn't seem out of the question..

Well the writers strike shouldn't affect the production per say, should it? My thinking is, if a script is written within the next six months or so, the movie can well be into production by next summer. Then they can work on post-production effects for the next year or so, giving us a summer 2009 release. It was only 2 years between Spidey 1 and 2. I remember they were already working on the train sequence of Spidey 2 at the end of the very same year Spidey 1 had came out, so with planning, it is possible to get a sequel out in 2 years.

Exactly, 3 years is a good gap between sequels IMO.

Isnt there an actor's and producers strike as well though? If so that could effect it BIG-TIME.

Plus i think TF2 will need more CGI than Spidey 2 did.

The only autobot that we see transforming back to alt mode well is Bumblebee. When they run from Sector 7 before BB is captured there's a group transformation but BB is front and center and we can hardly see the others. As for OP you are right, we only see that 1st glimpse, from there on is always from truck to robot. But it's still awesome to see him transform.

We see BB doing this after his fight with Barricade as well.

Did anyone else love Prime's spot of building surfing after he catches Sam falling from the roof of the building? :woot:

Oh i dont know, Weaving was awesome as Meg's IMO.

I think Weaving's performance was solid, but his voice didn't really appeal to me. I think Welker could've pulled it off if given the chance, and it would've been nice to have seen him and Cullen going at it again. Here's hoping he's cast as Soundwave in the sequel.
