Oscar Candidate?

You know I think SR was a far better film, but really? What visual effects wise did it achieve not already seen to get that nomination?

OHHH LOOK THEY MADE A MAN FLY. Yeahh, sorry. Been there done that.

Not saying I wanted the visual effects of this film nominated either cause they were really nothing that special either.

Superman was better than X3 in terms of effects, in my opinion. Less action, yes, but bigger and more epic.

Sorry to X3.

edit, hehe.

Spiderman? or Superman? :p

But yes, Spider was better in effects than any X-men movie.

fox should think about not being nominated while other superhero franchises do. It's sad that x-men franchise isn't abble to be nominated in special effects, at least. It's kind of sad. Fox seems to be unabble of that.

You know Angamb, it's not every franchise's or studio's dream that all their films be nominated for an Academy Award, films like X-Men are not for that purpose. Besides, for special effects nominations, it has to be because their was something truely amazing, or groundbreaking. Just because it didn't get a nomination doesn't mean the effects of X3 weren't good...because many of the effects of X3 were awsome.

I think the more relevant question is how the heck Click and Poseidon got nominated over X3 for best makeup and effects?WTF?

ACHIEVEMENT IN MAKEUP
Adlo Signoretti and Vittorio Sodano - Apocalypto
Kazuhiro Tsuji and Bill Corso - Click
David Marti and Montse Ribe - Pan's Labyrinth

ACHIEVEMENT IN VISUAL EFFECTS
John Knoll, Hal Hickel, Charles Gibson and Allen Hall - Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
Boyd Shermis, Kim Libreri, Chaz Jarrett and John Frazier - Poseidon
Mark Stetson, Neil Corbould, Richard R. Hoover and Jon Thum - Superman Returns

I was shocked at Click.
But I can see why Poseidon got nominated. Doesn't it bring a new kind of effect like "first time foam and _____ are used and blah blah blah"? I thought I read that somewhere...
Though the bridge in X3 was quite new too.

Click??? I haven't seen it, but...Adam Sandler's Click? X-Men didn't have better makeup than that film? :(

I don't really feel the "bigger and epic" in Superman. Saving a plane and throwing a rock to space doesn't sound like epic to me. Moving the Golden Gate, making a house levitate, destroing the entire island of Alcatraz and a battle between tens of mutants... well, that does sound epic to me.
I didn't really like SR because I thought it was too bland and too long but it had its great moments (like the plane thing), but X3 had them too and I think they're more memorable effects-wise to get an Oscar nomination. Anyways, if Click got a nomination over X3, I can believe anything.

It's a sad day :csad:

I was not expecting a makeup nomination, but a FX one...
Poseidon!?!? Give me a break!!! That opening scene screamed fake boat from a mile!!!
Groundbreaking bubles!?!?! Yeah... everyone was paying attention to the ****ing bubles when the boat flipped IN THE DARK!!!... At least I'm sure Poseidon doesn't have a chance to win over SR or POTC2.

The thing I thought would help X3, was the variety of visual effects in the film. Poseidon and SR had great effects, but they were pretty much the same things throughout the film. X3 had so many styles of effects...it was never the same thing over and over again.

Pirates and Pan's will win the awards I'm 100% sure...they do deserve it.

I'm surprised Kate Bosworth got a (totally undeserved) Razzie nomination for her perfomance in SR yet X3 got nothing at all.How the heck did they escape that awards list?

They usually tend to go after movies that have a specific performance they hated. Last year they nominated Katie Holmes for Batman Begins, and you know that was a movie that doesn't belong on that list. Although I didn't understand the Kate Bosworth thing at all.

I did like the new category--Worst Excuse for a Family Film. :oldrazz:

I haven't seen Click. What was so special about the makeup in that? I think it will definitely go to Pan's Labyrinth, and visual effects to Pirates, which it deserves.

CLICK???????????

Oh my God..........what a sad excuse for a nomination.

Well, I'd have thought X3 deserved a nomination for the de-aging of McKellen and Stewart, the make-up on Kelsey, the bridge-moving, Angel's fliying and the Phoenix scenes.

Superman did have great visual effects that are perhaps more organic to the story, so they don't 'stand out' as such. I didn't like some of the CGI on Superman - there were times when he didn't look at all real. The movie is not an obvious choice for visual effects at all.

It's possibly a more political choice, that the mixed critic reaction to X3 means they don't want it to be applauded in any way as a success.

The message must now be getting through to Fox!

Agreed. Can you imagine if X3 actually wins one of those gongs?!?:ninja:

Vinnie Jones was robbed.
