The Force Awakens Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron

I think it's a real testament to Issac's acting ability where he took a character who didn't really have an arc or internal conflict and make him a fan favorite character. He just had such a great, plucky personality you can't help but love him, development be damned. It can be done and this is another example.

Though in the next movie I'd like to see Poe do more character wise and have Isaac flex his acting muscle more. That combined with what we already got, he can be even greater which is entirely possible.

Oscar Isaac was walking charisma machine in the movie from frame one, he really breathed in life into what's ultimately a thinly written character.

Looking forward to seeing more of Poe in the future.

Exactly yes. This would have been a very forgettable character with an average actor in his place.

Cool guy. Too bad he was so underused in the movie.

Glad he managed to survive though. Was expecting him to die up to the point he apparently did.

They're cute together. This guy nearly gets along with everyone.

So true. And that torture scene was superb. I really thought he was getting tortured for reals with all the sweat, blood, tears, and his reaction.

The one thing missing from Poe's character is that he needs to wear an aviator's scarf, that he casually throws over his shoulder every time he leaves a room.

He really shines in repeat viewings. He reminds me of so many other actors when they were yound, especially guys like Pacino, or even Tom Cruise as Maverick.

Loved his character, and despite what little he got he really owned his part and made it work. You cared and rooted for his character, despite having little to no back story and no character growth/evolution arc which is what usually makes you care about a well developed character.

Of the new "trio" those development growth/arcs more obviously went to Rey and Finn. Who you watch grow from who they are at the beginning to who they become at the end.
Poe pretty much felt like an afterthought character who; is who he is, from the get go, begining to end.
The character and actor I think could have used a little more.

Again not to take anything away from Isaac, who despite that , made the character work!

Honestly I'd love to see a stand alone for him. Could really work and lead up to why he's Leia's #1 pilot and why he was initially sent to Jakku.

I don't know if it needs or is a separate movie, I'd rather if anything it was worked directly into the sequels.
And it could be as simple as one line.
We got the weight of Finn's back story with one powerful line about how - stormtroopers are taken from their family when they are little, never knowing who they are, all they know their whole life is they are raised to do one thing - This quick exposition, going from knowing nothing about these new Stormtroopers and his past, to suddenly telling you almost everything in one heart wrenching blow - makes his story arc, everything you've seen him do, all his choices he's made, who he is by the end of the film all the more powerful.

Rey is obviously more complex, but Poe got none of that.

Poe was missing that one potential personal line about him, something, so powerful when we see the choices he makes, we feel the weight of why he's there to begin with, and later when he does come back what fuels him at his core.
Yes he's with the Rebel alliance, that's great! I think many are feeling he needed something more, as far as his intro.

Not a whole movie, just that one scene/line, that moment that tells you the core of where he's coming from, what drives him.
It just wasn't there, they didn't write it.

Poe Dameron is the freaking man.

That is all.

That is all.
Actually no, hopefully they have something more to say about him than just that.
They played that card, and I agree it was wonderful, but..
For the actor and the part's sake, they actually need to develop the character.

Yes, I agree but the guy just oozed cool. He obviously needs more development but his charisma hit me like a ton bricks. I just loved his scenes with Kylo and Finn,

I really enjoyed Oscar as Poe, but yeah the character is a bit too cocksure of himself for them not to take advantage of that and have him run headfirst into a HUGE mistake that costs the Resistance big time in the next one. He can't just be two-dimensional if he's really going to be one of the new big 3.

They either need to develop him, or he's pretty much as good as dead by IX. Although he may die regardless. It was originally the plan after all.

He really sold that torture scene and made me care for his character. It felt so real.

Poe killed Finn's stormtrooper friend who smeared the blood on Finn's helmet. Wonder if Finn finds out. Probably not.

I think Johnson will give him something to chew on in the next episode, given how we're focusing on the new generation now. That's a good point. As much as I love Poe and how plucky yet cocky he is in the most likeable ways, it would be interesting if he did actually **** up.

Also one of my favorite lines that always makes me grin every time I've seen it is when Poe tells Finn, "Were gonna do this." before they escape. :funny: Just that twinkle in his eye and confidence sells it.

In the next one, I think since Finn has been left with the Resistance, he and Poe will be a duo and go on covert missions together while Rey is with Luke.

"Poe, I'm gettin' too old for this ****. Or maybe not. I don't know how old I am."

"That's depressing, dude. I liked it better when I didn't have to know stormtrooper backstories."
