Our "Space Princess": David Corenswet IS Clark Kent/Superman!

I am intrigued with how David has basically been hidden since his casting as Superman/Clark. I understand some of this may be due to the fact that the Cavillistas would certainly have pounced at anything and everything about him in their anger of the studio moving on from Cavill . But it does seem obvious that something is going on with David, both he and the studio must understand how they want to present him to the media. He has been discreet even with outside media with showing us what he has done with his workouts, and even how he was "hidden" in the latest picture of the cast.

Makes me wonder, and very excited, about what he will look like when all is said and done. I am trying to be calm and collected, but I really want to see the results.

When his name was being floated about by fans, I remember thinking that he was far too logical and perfect a choice for the studio to even consider him. Imagine my pleasant surprise when his casting was announced.

It's definitely a PR thing. When he wore that big puffy sweater at last month's public appearance, I suspected his agent or WB suggested that.

Just based on Gunn's tweets, I suspect he wants Corenswet to be a huge, bulky Superman. So they want to reveal him in a suit that has that look.

ChatGPT make me an image of David Corenswet with Chris Evans body with the Kingdom Come Superman suit but with a yellow shield.

I was pleasantly surprised too. He’s not the first instance of fan casting done well (Cavill’s name was thrown about for Superman long before he was cast, as was Ryan Reynolds for Deadpool and Patrick Stewart for Charles Xavier) but fan castings are often based on physicality and maybe the odd moment of inspiration seen from a previous acting role. That’s not always a guarantee that the Director of any new movie will see the actor as a perfect fit for the particular representation they have in mind for a character. So it’s good to see that Coronswet obviously ticked a lot of boxes for Gunn.

I remember as far back as 2001 Christian Bale was a fancast for Batman because of American Psycho, and he played a rich prick in The Shaft movie, and then it grew with action movies like Equilibrium, etc.

Christian Bale and Margot Robbie were also very popular fancasts for Batman and Harley Quinn after American Psycho and Wolf of Wall Street respectively.

I’m still curious about Corenswet because on one hand I think he’s the blandest, least inspired choice I can think of but also suspect he’s a better actor than he’s had a chance to show and also might just Have It. I just feel like he’s in the Routh/Cavill school of Sufficient, although he’s probably the best of the three.

Lies it was Newsies and we all know it! :o

Pattinson was also a pretty big fan cast as well. Not like a monster huge one but the idea of him as Batman gained more and more steam before it actually happened.

I was really 'Meh' about him at first, but the more videos of him ive watched the more I've warmed up to him. Especially interviews, or his old comedy sketches.

I'm now seeing him as this beautifully dorky guy, in a very earnest way... which is peak Superman energy.

David’s been my dream pick for Clark ever since I saw him back-to-back in The Politician and Hollywood where ALL the qualities I was looking for in a Clark were on full display, and that was like 2019 or 2020, so can’t relate there lol. There’s been no one else who’s even come close to being so damned perfect for it to me. 🤷‍♀️

Corenswet's big advantage over Routh and Cavill is that he's a great fit for Clark. I also suspect Gunn's take will lean heavily into Superman being a little bit of an awkward, earnest goofball in costume and not just as Clark Kent which isn't really my preferred take (I do prefer Superman to be a bit more... overtly angelic or godlike as a presence? Just in a more approachable, gentle way than the cold, alien Snyder stuff - which I have a bit of trouble imagining Corenswet having the screen presence for) but is very cute on shows like My Adventure, Corenswet seems like a nice fit for that.

Hollywood is the only thing that makes me a touch cynical about that because I find his fake 40s movie star vibe a little annoying. But its a Ryan Murphy show so I don't blame him at all for giving a performance I don't like in it.

Glad you got your dream! ❤️

Also glad I've been won over 😅

I did watch him in The Politician and Hollywood (and a movie I cant remember now) while trying to get a feel for him) but still didn't get it.

For some reason, it was this ridiculousness that sold me 😅

Yeah I discovered those sketches shortly after Hollywood and that only made me further convinced he was the perfect Clark lol.

This genuinely increased my fondness for Corenswet by like 40%.

You should watch the whole show then! :funny:
I'm actually really curious how controversial this movie probably being notably quite comedic will be. I doubt it'll be notably more serious than Guardians Vol. 3 (if anything probably a bit less dark). Corenswet's Superman is probably gonna be pretty goofy, Hoult's Lex is absolutely going to be some degree of comedic, most of the JSA or whoever they are gonna be are played by actors who are primarily comedic or have heavy comedic chops, etc.

I am more than fine with this but I also think people are setting themselves up for disappointment imagining Gunn is going to give them, like, a live action DCAU rather than a James Gunn movie.

I think it just won't be comedic on the way that Guardians and TSS are, where the humor is mostly derived from the characters bickering and quipping at each other.

We'll definitely see Lois being chaotic, Jimmy getting himself in trouble, Perry yelling, etc. Humor is very much part of Superman.

Hope I'm making sense here.

I suspect Gunn is a fan of Matt Fraction’s Jimmy Olsen comic, and therefore fully expect Jimmy to be a central comedic figure in this. Lombard and Grant too. Also yeah, Clark’s gonna have a playful side and be a bit of a goof, Lois will be very snarky, and Guy and Metamorpho are there for comedic banter within the other superhero group I’m sure.

I’m on the fence about Lex though. I actually DON’T think he’ll be played for laughs much, given Gunn’s comments on the character and what he didn’t like about previous versions. I kind of expect him to have a rather dark sense of humor, where he thinks something’s funny that no one else would, but idk.

Humor is inherent to the best Supes comics, so that’s one aspect I’m looking forward to the younger members of the GA being introduced to. I feel like a lot of Supes’ erroneous “he’s boring” reputation with the younger crowd comes from his modern cinematic takes having been pretty humorless.
