Refer to the article I posted. Not only does it point out the rationale for Carroll's decision, but how Belichick might have forced that.

As the article says, I think Carroll was afraid of having to use his final timeout in that situation (if Lynch got stuffed at the line). In the back of his mind, he probably thought the worst that could come out of it would be an incomplete pass and the clock would stop. I don't think he expected Wilson to make that kind of throw in that situation.

I would have completely understood them wanting to run the ball after that play, but in my opinion, it was still a legitimate thought process on the part of the coaching staff to go with the pass there. The execution was where they fell short, and I believe it was specifically even pointed out by Seattle's OC (how Lockette was soft on the ball). That and the ball placement is more at fault, but that's just my opinion.

I don't see how Belichec forced any thing. If any thing Belicheck made a big mistake him self by not calling a time out. They should have called a time out there selfs because if seahawks score new England would have only had like 10-20 seconds left instead of like a minute to get a FG to tie the game if seahawks had scored and I don't see how there thought process was a legitimated thought at all. So what if you run the ball and get stoped and have to use a time out you still would have like 20 second left and 3erd and 4th Down. What are they worried that on 3erd down they are going to get sacked and not have time to get another play off or something? Makes zero sinces. The coached just flat out made a big big mistake. Plus they if they wanted to have a little more time so that in cause something like a sack happens they could have done a better job not taking like 40 seconds to get the play off in the first place.

I think I'm one of the few people who aren't entirely putting the blame on Carroll for that play.

If Wilson threw a back shoulder pass, that was a guaranteed TD. Everybody and their mother was thinking Seattle would run - maybe they wanted to catch the defense off guard?

Seattle has ran that slant play countless times during the season. Just because it didn't go well last night, everybody is putting the blame on the coaching. Not to mention, they blew a 10 point lead before any of that happened.

If you want to try to catch them off guard why not do a play action instead though?

Here's a very good article on the whole sequence:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...ributed-to-fateful-play-call-by-pete-carroll/

It's being highlighted as Carroll's mistake when it probably should be attributed to Belichick's genius.

Belichick’s choice to not use a timeout, though, made life more difficult for the Seahawks by complicating their play-calling options.

This is one of the dumbest things I've read.

I don't care how many ways people try to come up with explanations for that play call. There is no explanation. Lynch is a powerhouse runner and in short yardage situations, especially from the one with the SB on the line, you give him the ball. It doesn't matter if the Deflatriots put all eleven guys in the box, you give him the ball. Period. You gotta play to your strengths. It's not time to get cute.

Carroll's words, "we saw the match up and we were just going to waste a play. But then on 3rd and 4th we would have run the ball. NO question." Dumb. Why waste a play? Yep, he certainly did waste a play. That's for sure. If you're gonna run it on "3rd and 4th with no question," why not run it on 2nd?? I'll never understand that decision. I don't care what kind of reasoning they give...it'll never make sense. Worst play call in the history of the SB and probably one of the worst in football history.

What nation wide ad are you talking about? The pass was bad to should have just thrown the ball away.
The "kids die every day from preventable accidents" one.

And yeah, there's no justification for that call. I'm half suprised Kraft didn't call up Caroll after the game to say "This is why I fired you".

Anybody ever seen this movie and if so, is it worth a watch? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amigo_(film)

Was just looking at the page and saw that both Dane DeHaan and Chris Cooper were in it, it'd be cool to see the Osborns in another film together.

You should, it's pretty good.

I just watched "Life After Beth". I liked it. Not hilarious, but I liked it. Dane DeHaan (as Andrew Garfield) deserves more recognition. He always gives great perfomances.
