Pans Labyrinth is up there with T2 and Aliens IMO.

Oooh, not quite for me, but very close.

I don't know many directors capable for topping 1984-1994 James Cameron.

according to press release for Comic Con Oscar Nominated Actress Rinko Kikuchi(Babel,The Brothers Bloom) is also apart of the cast

I Love her. She was so awesome as Bang Bang in The Brothers Bloom.

I'm glad again that they're going with a real Japanese actress. It seems like Japanese actors don't transcend internationally as well as Chinese or Korean actors. Which is why you see more of them in American movies..

That's because Chinese and Korean actors usually have stronger English skills than those from Japan, usually. Koreans learn English as an integral part of their schooling, and most of the Chinese actors we see have made their name in the Hong Kong market, where English is also widely spoken.

Good to see more actors from Japan on American screens though.

well the synopsis is this so yeah

Quote:
This project will give the Hellboy filmmaker the opportunity to create two worlds. The first is an alternate version of Earth in the near future, decades after a historic date in November 2012 when the first kaiju, a towering Godzilla-like beast, emerged from a hole in the Pacific Ocean and attacked the city of Osaka, Japan. The second is “The Anteverse,” another universe on the other side of that gaping portal, 5 miles below our ocean’s surface. Since the first attack, the rim has been “spitting out” a variety of gigantic monsters at an increasing rate, which then stride out of the ocean and begin destroying sea-bordering cities, like Tokyo and Los Angeles. In order to combat these monstrous, otherworldly menaces, the military developed the “Jaeger” program, which trains teams of two pilots to jointly operate massive, building-sized mechanized suits of armor and high-tech weaponry.

Sounds like mech monster alternate universe Anime Rahxephon

Maybe that is because it is ripped off exactly from anime Rahxephon.

Ugh, guys... there are alot of animes with monsters/aliens and mech suits. Just let the man create ,and stop *****ing about 'ripoffs'.

Frankly, I hope GDT decides to reboot The Guyver, or take on Ghost in the Shell or Akira as well.

Guillermo Del Toro on Pacific Rim:
It’s the most fun I’ve had in a Hollywood movie. Ever. It should be almost illegal. We are enjoying it so much. We are designing monsters all day long. Gigantic f.. monsters all day long.

Man, the more hear about this movie, the more and more excited I get! :woot:

Summer 2013 can't come soon enough!

this is a dream come true. a kaiju flick, getting the big budget hollywood treatment. its too awesome for words.

I'm not expecting this to be a good movie, Del Toro didn't even write it. But at the least it will have some great effects and monster designs. But hey, at least he is finally getting a movie made.

I like hearing him be excited about stuff, it's like a kid in the candy store.

Or Guillermo Del Toro in a candy store...

:oldrazz:

Guillermo Del Toro, gigantic monster and mech battles?

count me in!! i'm there!!!

So glad to hear del Toro having fun crafting the project.

its amazing that he can do big popcorn flicks, and still remain passionate about it. the man is incapable of selling out lol.

Big G Times - July 23, 2011

The big headlines in the kaiju world are mostly from SDCC, but there's a handful of important notes otherwise:

- PACIFIC RIM, Guillermo Del Toro's new "giant" monster movie, generated a lot of buzz at Comic-Con this year. It is decidedly NOT a new Godzilla film, since apparently the average size of the monsters will be 20-30 feet, in other words about King Kong/Transformers scale. That doesn't necessarily mean that there won't be BIGGER monsters in the film, of course :)

- Speaking of PACIFIC RIM, the cast is slowly being filled out. Charlie Day of ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA is playing robot pilot "Newt," who must find a way to work with Rinko Kikuchi's character, "Mako," in order to combat this monster insurgency. One of the more interesting plot details, the language barrier, is thankfully remaining in-tact.

- Despite news breaking that David "Dark Knight" Goyer is writing the working script for Legendary's GODZILLA...the Big G's presence was sparse at the Con. A brief statement of "something coming soon" by Legendary this weekend served to pad out the studio's panel, but mostly just to remind people that a film may possibly be coming. Again, it could be months before any other news breaks, but here's hoping!
