Ant-Man Paul Rudd is Ant-Man

Rashida would be great, but I could also see Mary Elizabeth Winstead or Anna Kendrick as Wasp. Or Olivia Wilde, maybe Rachel McAdams, or if you want a bigger name for Janet how about Mila Kunis? There are plenty who can play Janet

Winstead, sure. Kendrick? possibly but i'd be disappointed (and it might seem creepy). Olivia Wilde seems out of Rudd's league. McAdams would probably look strange in a superhero costume. and i just don't like Kunis. cute or not, she still has Meg's voice.

After seeing who Wilde is dating, no one is out of her league.

Well, Winstead was in Scott Pilgrim, so she knows Edgar Wright. But Jones has the actual chemistry with Rudd.

Plus, she gives the Marvel women some diversity as the second black actress in the MCU, but the first to be playing an actual human (Zoe Saldana is playing an Alien).

I'm just throwing names out right now. I think McAdams would look great in a superhero costume, but that's me and I think she'd look great in pretty much everything.

Rashida has chemistry with Rudd, but that is also what screen tests are for. I liked Man of Steel for instance, but didn't think Henry and Amy had all that great chemistry. I have no doubts Rashida would kill it in the part. I'm just saying she's far from the only choice.

Brie Larson still think would make a good Janet. Larson worked with Edgar on Scott Pilgrim, she has done comedy sketches on Leno as well as been in 21 Jump Steet and Community. Larson has also been getting awards buzz for Short Term 12.

This is an interesting topic, quite frankly. I can see it technically going in a number of directions, with all kinds of results, but I imagine Rashida is going to get it. With Rudd starring, the tone of the film will likely fit better with what she'd bring than most other choices, largely because she does already have on-screen chemistry with Rudd (and comedic chops). Couple that with a lot of the things you guys have already pointed out about diversity, and it seems like a given. I'm pretty flexible and open to choices, but the choice of Rashida is on the same level to me as picking RDJ for Iron Man or Rudd for Ant Man. It's not usually what most would pick at first, but once it's brought to your attention, you can totally see it as being great.

I'm still so glad that Paul Rudd was cast in this.

I gave this much thought over the last few weeks, but I came to the conclusion that something (and I can't put my finger on it) would be wrong with Rashida as Jan and I guess I'd prefer Lucy Liu somehow.
I trust Marvel Studios enough however that whoever gets that role in the end is the best choice possible for where they want to take the character and if not will be recast in Avengers 3 with a way better actress.

I can't remember having seen any film with Paul Rudd. Let's just hope he's good, now that he got the role over other candidates like Jamie Bell.

Nathan Fillion said that he couldn't take the role because of his commitment to the Castle series. Isn't that just a lame excuse? The Ant-Man film has been in pre-production for many years. If Fillion really wanted to play the superhero, he could have talked to Marvel studios lots of times, and together they could have made a plan for him to be available at the right moment. But Fillion doesn't want to be Ant-Man. It's a shame that he can't admit it though.

Is it confirmed that Janet Pym will be in the movie, or are we just speculating?

educated speculating. making a movie about ant-man without jan is like making a batman movie without alfred or a superman movie without lois lane, a dr. strange movie without the ancient one or a thor movie without mjölnir.

I'm not concerned about Rudd's ability, as dude was doing theatre for years before he hit the Judd Aptaow scene. It's just that Hollywood pays him to be the smart ass guy in every movie as opposed to anything else. I did see My Idiot Brother the other night and he was award worthy in that.

It might be the other way 'round, and Marvel isn't interested in casting Fillion as a superhero. In fact, that seems much more likely than the idea that he has turned down roles or could just walk in and ask Marvel to cast him.

Fillion turned down Guardians of the galaxy and Green Lantern too. And GL is Warner, not Marvel.
Either no studio want him in their superhero films, or he actually doesn't want to play any superhero at all.

How about a Batman movie without Robin?

oh wait..... :cwink:

Do you have a link to a new story for any of that? I don't recall ever hearing that Fillion was officially offered any of those roles, or Ant-Man, only rabid fan speculation about casting him.

Nathan Fillion was never in contention for the role his name was just about because some Fillion/Whedon/Marvel fans wanted him in the role. Fillion himself has said for a number of years that he wasn't interested in the role and doesn't like the character. The constant questioning of him about the Ant-Man role got to the point that he was actually a bit annoyed people kept asking him.

If people keep asking you about a role you have said you don't want to play year after year you would be pretty annoyed too.

Nathan Fillion has said he wants to play Scorpion in a Spider-Man movie. Fillion would of made a better Hal in a live action Green Lantern than his fellow Canadian and Two Guys And A Girl Co-Star Ryan Reynolds.

One of the roles I first noticed Paul Rudd in was as Paris in Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet

In addition to that, Wright has tweeted that he likes Fillion but doesn't understand why people want him for Ant-Man. Most fans obviously either ignored this or saw it as a red herring at the time.

Alan Tudyk as well was another actor who said he isn't interested but fans kept hassling him about the role. Simon Pegg as well has stated numerous times over the years he won't be playing Ant-Man.

I think once an actor says they aren't interested fans should really drop it and move on.

Paul Rudd is one of the most enthusiastic actors about a role that Marvel has ever had according Feige. Better to have a actor who is happy to have the part than one who doesn't. No one wants another Weaving Red Skull situation.

The Fillion as Ant-Man fancast can be blamed directly on Joss Whedon. It dates back to this infamous incident at SDCC 2010. Joss called Fillion Ant-Man in the (then upcoming) Avengers movie, and it's haunted him ever since.

not to mention that we're trading up, here. who could have ever imagined Rudd agreeing to be a character that two tv actors passed on?

Fanboys only want who they want.
