Today I went into my local Game store in the UK, and the guy asked me if I'd like to be put on pre order for ps3 and wii. I laughed at ps3 but said yeah to wii. I asked how ps3 was doing, and he said that the interest is definitly there, and its doing as well as wii.(and they all know the price too as well ).

In my opinion, if you let a company rape your wallet and fool you into buying a more expensive 360 with a crappy, uneeded blu ray player, you're an idiot who deserves everything they get.

Same situation in a lot of stores I've been in. Gamers who don't read up (probably the majority) don't know of any of the negatives of the PS3. They'll see the price and justify it with Blu-Ray having not heard of any of the weaknesses of the format. Before I started reading here, I was 100% certain of buying the PS3. Now I certainly won't be buying at launch but may buy when the price drops. BC is one of the most important factors when you have hundreds of PS and PS2 games.

This kind of article may raise real problems but won't have any effect on the millions of average gamers who know little about their box outside of how to switch it on and off. A hell of a lot of people don't put that much thought into what they buy. If the PS3 was just a PS2 with a new outward design ie identical quality games, there's a lot of idiots out there who wouldn't even think of taking it back.

Iv said this a dozen times, no matter how much u ppl want the PS3 to fail ,its NOT going to. When i worked at EB Games, that system was the number one most asked about system, period. I couldnt count how many ppl wanted to know its release date and when the reserves started, even AFTER i told em its insane price tag.

Of course the people are pre-ordering the PS3! This is mostly to blame on those on the broad end of the video gaming spectrum. Those who know very little are unaware of the system's shortcomings, and there are also rabid fanboys who choose to ignore them. The launch will be a success thanks to these groups, but it may falter later, once the public learns its lesson.

Why is this "sad" or "stupid"?

I wouldn't be caught dead waving my little wii stick at my TV like LARP wizard and I hate "armored dudes shooting at the same old EXTREME monsters/terrorists and trudging around with their little squads" - Type games and that's what XBOX is good at.

$600 is not that big a deal to me. I just spent over twice that on a guitar, which is a piece of wood with wires stretched across it. And the only games I've ever totally HAD to have to be fulfilled have either been on PS 1 or 2 exclusively, or are/were available on it.

Plus, PS3 looks cool. The other 2 look like something you'd see in a dentist's office.

It depends which "wrong" you're asking about.

To put things simply, in each category:

Price: Driven upwards thanks to a new media format and a complex, if somewhat inferior and unreliable processor architecture, you're getting basically no bang for all that buck. ($600)

Power: The GPU is behind the 360's from a coding standpoint because Microsoft literally owns Direct X, and the hardware is also behind because ATi simply makes better cards than NVidia.

Games: Sony probably had the worst E3 ever. If it weren't for MGS4 and Assassins Creed (which will be on the PC and 360 anyways) I would say Sony might as well have not shown up.

The stupid controller: No, I'm not talking about the boom-a-rang controller, I'm talking about the half-arsed motion sensor jammed into the Dual Shock at the cost of force-feedback. They're trying to stay in the same field as Nintendo, but they have no reason to.

Im sure there are a few, but they are prob in the minority. Just going on my personal experience in the video game reatail business, there is a HUGE buzz for this system. The Wii is ALOT more selected, and in that i mean, only a select number of ppl ask about that system. Most of them are the ones buying Nintendo products to begin with. The Wii, regardless of what Nintendo says, is NOT for the "casual" gamer. A casual gamer is NOT going to pick up the "wiimote" and start slinging it around the room. When i inform the general gaming public of the Wii and its "wiimote" it is usally met with laughter, most of the time the ones who are laughing are above the ages of 15ish. Some think its a really cool idea that ur movement controls the characters actions.
For the "general gaming public" the PS3 is THE next big thing in gaming, and thats why it is going to sell like hotcakes. Most of us here dont fall into that "general gaming public" and we know some of the crap that Sony is trying to push, thats why u see alot of negative Sony stuff on this forum.
