People Who Come To Work Sick...

It's interesting how posters are talking about people being sick at work. We had one concessionist call in today and another one who just threw up in the break room. It was weird because she was fine last night and was as vibrant, energetic, and talkative when I spoke to her then.

I come into work today and I noticed how bad she looked but I just chalked it up to her being tired. Next thing I know I come back from helping my manager clean the inventory room and the concessionist just threw up in the break room. She couldn't get to the bathroom or sink in time unfortunately.

Seems like a lot of people are getting sick this year.

Oh, so let me get this straight. Because some people may've not had the same advantages as you that means they're complaining? So you worked your way through school, paid your rent, bought your own food and etc while covering your tuition and books. And this makes you better than anyone? Is that supposed to impress someone?

Some people don't have a choice but to go through financial aid with student loans, grants, work full-time in order to help make ends meet at home.

Go back and reread the exchange. Assumptions were made that I had every advantage coming up that allowed me to get where I am today such as student loans and living in the dorms or with my parents. Nothing could be further from the truth. I put myself through school and supported myself by working my ass off. That is not having an advantage. That is pulling your own weight and working to make your own life better. The point was that anyone can change their life and make it better if they want to. It just takes a little drive and hard work. I did it. Countless others have done it. It does not make me or anyone else better than anybody for having done so. It is not meant to impress. It just means that ANYONE can do it. Including people who insist that they cannot.

Well, I don't know what to tell you but my circumstances are much different than yours. As soon as I get a check it's gone. I don't even have money for Christmas Gifts because it's that or I don't eat for a month because of juggling food expenses with utilities. Plus up North here snow falls by the foot and it gets really cold so I spent alot on heating my apartment. I work on average 32 hours a week doing the Graveyard Shift so if anyone has an issue with me working sick, they know where they can shove that notion because I don't care. I pay for all my bills and everything with my little minumum wage check.

Working 32 hours a week leaves plenty of time for a second job. That would ease your money woes and you'd be able to call in sick when the situation warranted it.
