David S. Goyer Adapting Shadowland Horror Novel As NBC Event Series
Ahead of the October 24 debut of NBCs Constantine, the comic book adaptations co-developer/executive producer David S. Goyer has set up another genre project at the network, an event series based on the 1980 dark fantasy novel Shadowland by Peter Straub. The book, a World Fantasy Award nominee, centers on two young boys, Tom Flanagan and Del Nightingale. They spend a summer with Dels uncle Coleman, one of the foremost magicians in the world, who may actually be a sorcerer.
Goyer will co-write the adaptation with BAFTA-winning British writer Jack Thorne who is currently adapting The Sandman graphic novel as a feature for producer Goyer and Warner Bros. Straubs son, Benjamin Straub will serve as co-producer on the project. Universal TV, where Goyer is under a first-look deal, will produce.
Under his pact with Uni TV, Goyer also recently optioned TV rights to horror novel Snowblind by Christopher Golden for a potential event series
Constantine, which Goyer developed with Daniel Cerone and executive produces, has received an order for three additional scripts by NBC ahead of the series premiere. Goyer is the creator/executive producer of Starzs Da Vincis Demons, which he also ran for the first two seasons. On the feature side, he has Batman v Superman coming up, and his next directing effort with be The Breach for Lionsgate, which Goyer developed independently under his Phantom 4 Films banner along with Lorenzo di Bonaventura.
