I'm not sure, but I don't think it's a good strategy for movie studios to open Spidey, Shrek, and POTC w/in mere weeks of each other.

I would like to see Spidey do well, but I have a feeling that Shrek will beat both of them out.

*Cough*lol*Cough*

Spider-Man 3 definitely should reign supreme, because unlike Shrek and POTC, quality increased with it's sequels. :D

I hope Shrek 3 does 150 million tops, because Shrek 2 definitely didn't deserve to be the 2nd highest grossing movie of all time.

There is no hope for humanity if Pirates does better than Spidey.

It's gonna be ugly at the theaters next summer, that much is certain.

That's how I felt coming out of Spider Man (easily one of the worst films I've ever had the extreme displeasure of suffering through in theatres),
Must be the only movie you've ever seen

One of hundreds actually, bordering on thousands, the vast majority of which are much better than Spider Man, which wouldn't take much.

A few brief moments of anything remotely resembling quality would put anything miles ahead of it.

This is going sound trollish but I apologize, I have yet to see Pirates of Carribean, but real life buzz has been luke-warm and mediocre, most people were disappointed, I'm sensing Matrix Reloaded/Revolution numbers here, where as Spider-Man 2 was a big improvement over the luke-warm first entry. I think Spidey 3 going win.

Who have you been talking to?

No movie that makes over $900M has an audience that was "mostly disappointed."

Thank you!

Anyway. I think it will be close between Spidey and Pirates. Both film are really big deals for next summer.

Pirates 2 is much more recent. I think that gives Spider-man 3 the edge. I think the promise of Venom will make the BO the edge.

But who knows. Look at how Superman Returns did.

Thats true.
There are going to be alot of flops next summer.
Very good for us movie-goers and very bad for Hollywood revenue. :)/:(

Why? The Pirates movies aren't what I'd call horrible, unwatchable movies.

The second one was probably one of the best summer movie experiences in quite a while.

When it comes to box office I've learned you can never be sure about anything. But for now my vote goes for POTC 3.

I'm hedging on my prediction and I'm betting, the same people saying "POTC 2" wasn't a disappointment, will be the same people flipping out when it makes decent money but not POTC 2 money... But time will tell...

I don't think it will make as much as the second movie, but unlike the Back To The Future and Matrix sequels, it's coming out a year later instead of 6 months.

I know Disney is hoping for it to be more like how Lord of The Rings performed.

Perhaps, but the word of mouth was great on those movies and only got better. From what I hear and what it seems like, Pirates of the Carribean 2 was fun but too over-the-top, and the ending is just too open-ended. I think it'll make money, I just dont' think it's going do amazing.

You think Pirates of The Carribbean 2 didn't have fantastic word of mouth?

Don't confuse Pirates 2 with X-men 3.

Perhaps RI different than your neck of the woods, VileOne? But most of the people who went and saw it, and there were a lot, returned saying it was meh.

That's fine in RI, but if that was true all around, do you think the movie would've done as well as it has?

This was the movie to see this summer. It trumped everything. X-men 3, SUPERMAN RE-FREAKING-TURNS, everything. Superman did embarrassing business this summer, fans can spin it any way they want, but for Superman and for the money they spent, that's bad.

Plus, people will see these movies for Depp's performance alone.
