Any guess at how much this film will gross? A lot of people seem to be expecting it to drop in a major way like Alice 2 did. While the internet seems to hate this franchise, i barely know anyone personaly who does so too. While these films are droping domesticaly, it seems like they're gotten stronger worldwide. If i'm not mistaken, the last one did very well in China. My guess is that this will make around 700 milliong - 1 billion if it's bad, but might get as far as 1.5 billion if it's good.

600-700 million worldwide.

This was a shockingly great trailer. Loved it. The absence of Jack actually served it better. It was probably a case of Depp's recent stuff and trying to downplay Jack given his over exposure but it made for a better and intriguing trailer. It was creepy and eerie and felt more like the first movie. In a good way.

Goddamn, I'm actually excited for this movie now. I'm actually intrigued by the story and where Jack is and his connection to Salazar. It makes Jack coming back interesting again. This seems like it'll be the beginning of the movie and perhaps Will's son is the protagonist where it seems he has to find Jack. Good move.

And Bardem looks great as Salazar. He is genuinely menacing with what seems could be tragedy too. The crew and him look terrific with actual thought going into those designs. The movie looks great, not the boring look of the fourth film.

So yeah... I did not expect this at all. Count me looking forward to the next trailer. It made what seemed like a franchise that was so played out be fresh again. Gotta hand it to them.

According to the synopsis Salazar and his crew have escaped the Devil's Triangle and want to kill Jack and all other pirates. How much you want to bet that Salazar getting trapped in the Devil's Triangle was Jack's fault? :funny:

I agree. In fact, I think the teaser actually shows two different events. The opening scene with two ships shows Capitán Salazar's ship (I believe it's name is the Silent Mary) chasing Jack's ship, the Black Pearl, through the Devil's Triangle, probably at the beginning of Jack's pirate career. The second scene shows a British warship entering the Devil's Triangle, and that happens around fifteen years after the opening scene. The British are slaughtered by Salazar and his men, who in the meantime became ghosts stuck between life and death thanks to Jack, who deliberatey sailed through the Triangle where the Spanish fell victims to whatever supernatural forces/creatures reside there while Jack managed to slip away.

Great post. Could not agree more. :yay:

The best change they made was to hire new screenwriter. Best way for a new start is new perspective and vision. Plus the new Norwegians Directors do have good vision and thirst to prove themselves.

Yeah, I'm expecting something kind of more intelligent but it most likely will be that. As exciting as this trailer is where this served the story better to create interest, my fear is that it came at the expense of showing us more to give us a better sense of it. Which could just be another fourth movie.

New writers on big studio movies don't mean as much anymore. This movie probably had a dozen writers go at it throughout it's whole process, and I'm pretty sure one of them was Rossio. That's fine as Rossio and Elliot are great writers. Nathanson just probably was in a position to write the main script and got credit for that.

Another interesting note: Will's son looks more like Elizabeth than Will. Most likely that'll help when Will recognizes him.

Is Keira Knightley in this at all?

Fun fact: At World's End came out in 2007, Dead Men Tell No Tales comes out in 2017. Will can return to land for one day every ten years.

Jack Sparrow made a **** ton of enemies in his lifetime, didn't he?

She's not in it. She has said she's not interested in returning.

And I think this is longer after the third film. If that's Will's son, which I'm pretty sure it is, he definitely isn't ten years old. If we're going by the land thing, perhaps Henry is 20 and it has been 20 years after the third film.

That long after is a pretty ****ing cool idea. I'm hoping this is a film with Jack facing his own mortality, since that's been a goal of his since the sequels. And looking at that Jack picture, he looks to have grey hair.

He's the Han Solo and Wolverine of this world. He knows everybody. :o

oh god i had not even noticed that, so funny.

Looking forward to this. Big fan of the franchise, except for the 4th one. That one was mediocre.

This looks to be in the style of 1-3. Hope it delivers. Can't wait to see Depp vs Bardem!

Teaser didn't do much for me. I really liked the first one, but each installment is worse then the last.

Is Elizabeth in this one?

From the teaser, it already looks that this film is vastly superior to the 4th one when it comes to visuals and soundtrack. Hoping they don't fail on the story again. This film might launch these Directors in Hollywood, or it might easily kill any chance they previously had.

Wow that is something to think about! lol Is it 10 years in the FILMS tho?

I think it's more than 10 years in-universe. The end of Will's first ten years mission was shown in AWE's post-credits scene, and since the kid now seems all grown up, he might be close to his 20s.

The kid looks about 16-17.

It's like they heard complaints about the third being too big and made the 4th one too small in scale. Now they're like, let's split the difference.

The 4th one was too small scale and its still the most expensive. Disney just can't control the budget for these films.

It's also the one with the worst cinematography. In least, with 2 and 3 you could see where the money went to. I have no idea how they spent so much with the 4th film.
