Just got back. Give it 7.5/10.

COTBP: 9.5/10
Dead Man's Chest: 8.5/10
At World's End: 8/10
On Stranger Tides: 7.5/10

The two best parts of the movie were the Mermaids and Hans Zimmer's score.

PS: The movie scored 350 millions worldwide opening.
And BoxOfficeMojo say that the budget is 250 millions? What?

everything about this was worse than even At World's End

I'm in disbelief

And I think I was one of the only people in the theater who laughed (and possibly got) "I agree with the missionary's position."

And
the end where Jack screws Angelica over. :awesome: At first I was dissappointed that she didn't end up dying, but her outcome was so much better.

"I gotta go."

That's Jack right there. I'm just so relieved they didn't do anything cliche. Perhaps he learned from Elizabeth to not trust a woman who tries to kiss him. The funny thing is maybe she was actually telling the truth. :woot:

I loved when the music STOPPED when he said that line to her on the island!

haha yeah the whole theater burst out laughing when that happened...man the more i think about the movie the more i like it. I think i'm gonna go again.

i am re watching it in 3D this time i saw it in a theater that was not as of good quality the picture was a tad zoomed in or something but the audio was fantastic tho (hans zimmer score for the win!).

Well I just saw it. My take on it is it's just another Pirates of the Caribbean movie. I rated it a 7. Thats about where I place most of the Pirate movies. It wasn't poorly made or anything, it was entertaining for what it was, it was just kinda 'meh'. Not the best of the franchise.

The ending was pretty funny. The last time we saw a woman kiss Jack he was killed a few seconds later so it was not surprising that he did something like that. Is that the same Island that Jack was left on before the first movie ?

One scene that I think came out good in 3-d was [BLACKOUT]Blackbeard's[/BLACKOUT] death. Someone being a smart ass in front of me reached out for his hand

Just came back from it, and I liked it better than I thought. The critics were way too harsh on this.

Now it's certainly not a breath of fresh air, true, but what I liked was how toned down it was. AWE was pretty much as big as they get, so I'm glad they went the opposite and didn't need to get bigger. it was on scale with the first film, which is great.

And it's better than the second and third. Jack is Jack again! Thank God!

I agree that the action could have been better, and the sword fight between Jack and Jack II at the beginning was drawn out.

The mermaid scene was great. Pretty tense.

I didn't hate the Philip/Mermaid stuff as much as I thought. Were they needed? No, but it wasn't awful. I kind of liked them both. They weren't the most interesting people, but they did what they could with it.

I just kept thinking how good it felt that this wasn't tied to the others. No Will or Elizabeth or other parts. The plot was straightforward and not bloated.

A good time all around. I enjoyed the humor too. And I like how they dialed down the humor.

Depp as Sparrow was great and I'm glad to see him back to how he was in the first one and not a self parody. I think this works. They somehow made it work where him being the main character doesn't feel like too much. I liked the balanced out stuff with Gibbs and Barbossa while simultaneously showing Jack's stuff. Then Jack went off by himself and came across Barbosaa and his crew, and I pretty much liked that. Very nice and simple.

Rush as Barbossa is used very well. Loved his character and his outcome.

McShane, while badass, I felt wasn't really used to his full potential. He could have done more evil things.

Cruz was sexy as hell. I liked her. I do think there should be a new love interest in the next one though.

All around, a good time. It doesn't bring much new, but I'm glad they brought it back down and kept why this series is good in the first place.
These were pretty much my feelings exactly. I was expecting much worse. The first one is still obviously FAR superior to this one, and I think I even preferred DMC over OST as well, but this was still better than AWE, imo. I'd rate it about 6.5 or 7/10.

I especially agree about McShane, though. He was the element I was most excited about going in, and while I thought he played the role perfectly as expected, he just wasn't given much to do. Criminally underused.

As for Cruz, it seemed to me that the end credits scene established her standing [blackout]as a clear-cut villain for the next installment - love interest no more.[/blackout] So yeah, I'd expect a new love interest in the next go-round.

I loved when the music STOPPED when he said that line to her on the island!

Yeah, that was probably the main part that got me. :woot:

I was like, "Jack really?" They're going to go for a cliched kiss and thank God that didn't happen.

And I liked the
last scene between Jack and Gibbs. I liked Jack scheming to get the Pearl out of the bottle.

"I know a man with a goat!"

"Aye. And I can do this" *does hand motion*

I also loved his sudden stop to the fight between Barbossa and Blackbeard.

"Why don't we just sit back. Set up a couple of wages, eh?"

yeah Jack doing the 'hand gesture' at Gibbs had me cracking up, the more I read/type the more I wanna see it again, maybe I will tomorrow go to the good theater that has the good pic/sound quality and their 3D is the Real D 3D which is very good (my theater 3D is not as good but decent).

"I gotta go" had the whole theater laughing. :p

Still haven't seen this, but I heard when they reach the fountain there is a beautiful cinematic scene or something...true?

Saw it again today and enjoyed it even more. Did anyone elsee noticed the little winks to the other movies? Fortunately they weren't that obvious as the previous ones ("Sea turtles!! Huh, huh? Get it??"), for example, the way Jack meets Angelica, it reminded me the end of COTP, when they say that Jack impersonated a clergy of the church of England, also when Jack mentions la Martinique to Angelica, he points at the handkerchief he has on his left wrist. On the DMC extras, they mention that it was a gift from a special woman. They also used a lot of parts from the previous 3 soundtracks.

Will Jack Sparrow...er... Captain Jack Sparrow return?

from what im hearing/heard, Jack has 3 more adventures... any news/thoughts/anything...

I, for one, cant wait. Pirates 4, 5, and 6 sounds great to me. The more Jack, the better.

Drink up me hearties, yo ho....

As long as the films are still fun with witty banter and action with a great adventure and Depp as one of the greatest cinematic characters ever, AND as long as they keep making money.....then yes....I think we will see at least two more films and then the franchise will sail into the sunset.

I thought this last movie was fun and witty and it was definitely better than the 3rd film and probably is about the same as the 2nd film.

Wow. Good catches! I love Zimmers scores for these Pirates films as well!

Fabulous! Love the witty pirate banter and of course Depp as the one of the greateset cinematic characters ever, will never get tired or old.

I don't think she will a baddie, becuase of bun in the oven, but she will be an interesting character in the next one.

I thought OST's was better overall than AWE. Without a doubt. Pirates 3 was too all over the place.

I thought it was pretty clear that the pregnancy thing was just Angelica trying to weasel her way out of her fate, Jack even seems pretty puzzled and says something that leads you to believe they never even had time to conceive a child.

This movie was easily Hans Zimmer's worst score. It was just a total rehash of the last two movies.

Only original bits were the Rodrigo y Gabriella stuff. Pretty bland music.

Zimmer's best scores in 10 years

Inception

TDK

and Sherlock Holmes. Because they're the only 3 he's done in a while that dont have the Pirates theme in it. Like Gladiator.

Although Gladiator came first...Pirates had 4 movies with the same theme...so it gets it.

The score was way repetitive and didn't seem to hit the right cues as the other films. Don't wanna over use the theme, makes less of an impact. I was also disappointed byt the lack of tracks featuring Rodrigo and Gabriella. I only heard one/two songs from them in the film. Seems way more are featured on the soundtrack.

The Mermaid attack scene was awesome, the music was very fitting and new there.

No it wasnt. The Mermaids theme is the At Wits End theme. That's all it is...over and over..and over...
