Pixar's Inside Out

^It's not really a well oiled machine when you watch it. There are reasons why Joy is not in charge of your emotion 24/7.

Fine but that doesn't address my other issue that no emotion should be in the driver's seat it would seem. Oh well, I'll see how it addresses this problem but I still go back to that old WWII Disney short about Reason & Emotion as sort of the template for this.

I think you're looking at it wrong and far too literally. Now, I haven't seen the movie and could very well be wrong myself, but my impression is not that Pixar is trying to teach kids how to let emotions "drive" them, but to show how emotions affect a person in general. If you're aware of how uncontrolled emotions can affect you (and yes, in some cases drive your actions), you're one step closer to correcting problematic behavior and thoughts.

I dunno about this one. Just looking as Sadness in the trailer makes me want to smack her for interrupting a well oiled machine that Joy had in place. But most of all the thing that seems missing is any avatar for logic/reason. People don't operate solely on emotion unless you're an imbecile or very, very young.

I'm usually not as up Pixar's rear as most people seem to be but I'll still give this a chance.

That machine isn't that necessarily well oiled if Joy is the only one driving it.

Yeah, well we won't know till we see it I guess.

Aw man, I forgot this came out this weekend and probably won't get to see it 'til next week. Glad people are enjoying it so far! I'm always rooting for Pixar, but I'm rooting extra hard for this one since Meg LeFauve is writing on Captain Marvel now.

I saw this today. Probably one of the most creative movies I have ever seen in my life. And I think this was the best movie I've seen so far this year.

The thing I felt walking out of the cinema was that I really don't think this is a film that's going to appeal to kids all that much. It's not so much an adult concept but it's dealing with some rather serious themes.

That hardly proves anything.

Aha! I found it.

I didn't know it got an Oscar nomination.

I was thinking that as well. I mean the kids could definitely latch onto the bright colors, fun characters, and the basic plot. But there was a ton in the movie that would go right over any child's head.

I've heard somebody say that Pixar makes films for adults, that are kid friendly. This movie demonstrates that very well.

Without doubt, I don't know if many kids will fully understand the themes of this film, there isn't even really any big action sequences I could see them enjoying.

I noticed some adults sniffling during the more dramatic scenes. Maybe it's because I'm single, but I honestly expected more because everyone else has been raving about it.

I like the concept and the film is fairly enjoyable, but it doesn't hold a candle to the films Pixar put out a decade ago.

I'm certainly not expecting it to replace The Incredibles as my favorite Pixar film, that's for sure but the idea is intriguing if nothing else. The problem is that when a film invites analysis it's likely to get it and all too often the seams come apart in lots of films when I do that and I end up liking them less than if I had simply taken them at face value and not thought much about it. It's a Catch 22.

Absolutely agree. I loved it. But I'm almost trying not to think too hard about all it because then it might fall apart. Like even while watching certain points made me go that's now how a mind thinks but the movie genuinely won me over.

It is indeed lovely, wise and poignant.

I actually think they could have gone much further with the concept but I understand why they held back. At it's core it's a story about someone suffering from emotional problems but it's still an animated film. The balance I think was right but would also liked to have seen where things had gone if they took it a bit further.

True, my son wasn't really into it. I didn't hear too many kids laughing as heartily as most of the adults.

Same, I had to put my hand up 'cause I knew an ugly cry was coming upon me. I wish I could just sniffle, no, I had to full on sob. Lmao, what's wrong with me?

watched it, really liked it 9/10 for me, i think this film is unintentionally for kids arround 10- 15 y/o i mean there are concepts i don´t think little kids will understand...

I was aching to see this film tonight but alas I didn't follow through. I figured the theater is packed with noisy children, and would distract me far too much.
Plus I have work in the morning unfortunately so it probably wouldn't be enjoyable.

The premise intrigues the hell out of me so I have to catch this sometime next week.

I did see people leave with their kids and not come back.

Both school classes in my theater seemed to love it, one class looked like it was 7/8 year olds, the other 11/12 year olds or so.
