Pixar's Luca

oh boohoo...
it’s obvious that Disney has other goals here to measure the success of this, like how many subscription it drove or how many user it watched. That’s how they base their decisions to rehire the team behind Luca for future projects if it reaches the defined goals.
Luca will bomb at the box office, because the targeted audience, family with kids, aren’t vaccinated.
Luca will be successful the way it’ll find its release to the targeted audience. If some creators behind it, feeling not the recognition at the box office...there are people out there that are dealing with far worse problems. The Pixar team will still have work after the pandemic - other people won’t

love the font and color pattern

Why do I get the sneaking suspicion that Luca might be another Good Dinosaur-type dud and Disney doesn't wanna risk it flopping, hence moving it to Disney+? Like it was screened for the studio and it didn't go over well? Soul had the excuse of COVID hampering the planned theatrical release and there was a TON of excitement for that movie before everything went to hell. I'm not seeing any real widespread interest in this. I'm watching the previews for this and going "This looks interesting, but where's the Pixar spark? The hook to really tie everything together! What's the catch other than 'they're fish-people'?" It feels like a less-interesting Little Mermaid but without ANY real conflict being made clear. Are the trailers not showing specific characters that might clarify things, like a racism element or something? Disney wouldn't just keep this as streaming-only if they weren't confident on it doing well in theaters. And I guarantee you Disney would've moved this back to theaters by now if they were that worried about the box office. Something's clearly wrong with this movie.

Can’t believe this is out Friday. There really is no hype, Disney basically just dumping it for some reason. I’m sure it’s great as all Pixar, but man, this should be an event and it’s not.

Watched this movie before work today and I gotta say I liked it very heartwarming little story. As Far as pixar movies go I would say it's pretty much in the Top 10 for me but maybe not near the top.

A lovely movie with a strong LGTB metaphor. So happy this movie exist. :)

The movie was ok, better than most animated movies but not in the top tier of Pixar films IMO. I can see why they dropped this on Disney+ rather than doing a day and date.

I enjoyed it. Not one of Pixar's best but a strong case for that second tier. Fun, charming, has a ton of heart and a tremendous voice cast. I thought it was pretty unique and felt different compared to pretty much every other Pixar movie.

The subplots could have been fleshed out or executed better though.

I am 25 minutes into this, and this is by far the gayest thing Disney has done, and considering Disney has done Elsa, that's saying something. I am pleasantly surprised by how overt it is.

Yeah the homosexual allegory is a like a sledgehammer. I thought it was fine. Pixar has such a strong track record that when something is only “good”, it’s ok by their standards.

The Italian accents were a little over the top for my tastes. And the animation style, and people features, seemed a little more cartoon-ish than usual. I kept thinking the dad was from the Cloudy with Meatballs movies. But the story was fine and engaging and it’s a good message for the kids.

Just finished. I really liked it. It's super cute. I love the animation style. Almost felt like a claymation. A bit like the Mitchells vs. the Machines. It felt like a short, they extended to feature length, but not in a bad way. A lot like the Toy Story TV specials. The Little Mermaid, Nemo and La Luna call backs were not subtle, but I loved them anyways.

Not their best movie, but one I will continue to enjoy in the years to come.

It was on purpose

Luca broke all of Pixar’s animation rules

What a charming and delightful little film. I enjoyed it more than any Pixar movie released in the last few years.

The animation, music and voice acting were all top notch and while the story was far from mind-blowing, I was engaged throughout.

I'd actually say it's the best animated movie released since Moana and it deserved to be seen on the big screen.
