Please, no "Superman Begins"

The modern Brainiac from the comics isnt involved with Krypton much and he gets along fine, they dont need to tie him to Krypton, though I wouldnt mind all that much if they did, it worked in Godfall, though he only appeared for about a page in that.

But, I have a question to ask you guys/gals, if they do go with an origin story, would you prefer they base it off Birthright or Man Of Steel?

The modern Brainiac destoyed krypton after he took kandor:huh:

My only hope is that this movie doesn't attempt to make superman 'special' because he is the last of his race or the most powerful but because of his influence and example.

It wouldn't matter a great deal as to which origin they base it on as I like both. I'd prefer they use elements from both stories and Superman: For All Seasons.

They don't have to choose one specific version, but rather an amalgam of the best elements of the origin throughout the character's history. Especially for a movie that has the ability to convey so much.

I think they will approach it similar to how Nolan approached it using comic arcs and plot points and mixing it with an original modern take on Superman. I think when it is all said and done you're looking at a Superman Begins type approach ie Superman: Year One. If not that, you're going to see a stand alone Superman film. "Here's Superman, he's been here saving people and being Superman. Here is one of those stories."

For the love of mike - no $%#^ 'in the beginning' it's a waste of screen time.
If you don't know who this character is - learn to read!

Well if its a reintroduction then what is there to read beside the basic outline.

Both Superman For All Seasons and Birthright should be used for "Superman Begins" they both have great elements and scenes that can easily be threaded together to make a great movie...it would be rather easy infact...they can show parts of the origin both on Krypton and Smallville that haven't been seen on the big screen before and of course be action packed...I think the only they thing they need to do is create/replace a better villain to fight in the end...idk how people would like robots built by Luthor or some optical illusions/actors that work for Luthor...I think a more "alien" threat would be best...that works with Luthor...

Superman begins is the only way to restore the dignity the character deserves in the movies. It is time to forget the Donner movies and move on.

I think as 99.9% of Superman fans have said at some point... We need to see something like TAS did in modernizing the story when bringing Superman back. The use of Brainiac destroying Krypton would work just as well in a movie.

I've resigned myself to the fact that they should call it Superman Begins. So if nothing else it signals for the character a restart even to the casual movie goer.

And then following the same forula of Batman Begins and TDk call the Next movie something Straight out of the comics like the widely popular Man of Steel or Man of Tomorrow.

I joked about using superman begins but I really think thats what they should do. By associating it with a reboot thats worked I think people would generally be more interested. Sure the first movie may not make huge numbers, but if done right it has the potential to be TDK big. Its superman, and the action in itself is something that would get people in the seats.

Agreed.

By associating it with a series that is already in the publics mind you may drive up revenues. To keep it there though they'll need good action and a story that's compelling but not dragging.

I know he shrunk Kandor (even the older version did this) and is still responsible for it, this is outlined in Godfall, but are you sure he destroyed Krypton in the comics?

I have to disagree, I always thought Superman being the last of his race was a great important story arc that was great when incorporated into the comics.

I think a closer reading of that Action Comics arc shows that he only destroyed the piece of land that contained Argo City that was floating in space which had survived the destruction of Krypton we are all familiar with.

^Thought so, I knew he wasnt responsible for the TOTAL destruction of Krypton.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Superman Begins but I think you've got to bring something new to the table . I don't wanna see a rehash of The Donner film or SV for example. I think if you take elements from the overall mythology and add new wrinkles along with covering uncharted area's you could keep it fresh imo.

I think if you skip smallville and start out with him getting the job at the daily planet with intercutting of his past would be a way to do that. It doesn't need to be a linear story and I think thats how you avoid being compared to STM.

The Donner films should not be forgotten, they're one of the best interpretations of Superman out there.

I believe that there should be a Superman "Begins" in order to properly establish a new continuity and set everything up for Superman to face.

The next Superman movie should have influences from the Donner films. It should also have influences from the comics, Superman: The Animated Series, and other interpretations of Superman as well.

Obviously. What i meant is no more sequels to those movies! New origin, faithfull to the comics with elements from the whole history of Superman.

Well I'm sticking to my guns, they should be forgotten because I don't like them.

I don't think they're all that great too because i really hate that Stupid Lex Luthor.

I think every generation needs their own Superman interpretation.
