Please, no "Superman Begins"

Maybe the fortress could look like it's made of crystals or maybe the same kind of structure but it should at least have something more than that, like alien robots and all.

And polar bears with lasers? :oldrazz:

It's an interesting idea, I'll admit that. Having exotic alien things in the FOS. However, I prefer it to be... well, all but vacant, meant for Superman to really have solitude. Jor-El's projection from the crystals is an exception of course.

John's Fortress which is the one in the comics, is pretty much what you describe, it's exactly like Donner's Fortress in design and sunstone material however it has the alien zoo, an armory, the tribute to Jor-El and Lara, a trophy room, a furnace to power the Fortress, the Phantom Zone Projector, a laboratory, and Superman Robots

That would be pretty much ideal. A good mix of all eras from the comics.

I'd be very surprised to not see Donner's sunstone Fortress to not be in the next Superman movie and Factor 5's Superman game.
I won't go so far as surprised, but I -unfortunately- can't rule it out either. It depends on how much connection they won't to allow between the new movie and the old one... and what will be going on in the comics in four years. The inclusion of the Donnerverse in the comics pretty much coincided the theatrical release of SR, so who knows what they intend to do in the future?

On another note, eventually I want to see the ill-fated South American Fortress in a movie.

No, it didn't coincide with Superman Returns. The reason why the Superman comics have so many Donner influences is because Geoff Johns who is running the Superman mythos right now is a total Donner fanboy, worked for Donner, and used Infinite Crisis and Superboy-Prime as his way to change things around. Superman Returns had nothing to do with it.

Johns is pretty much a lot like Singer in his love for the Donner material. The only difference is that Johns recognizes that there are other interpretations of Superman as well.

The Donner Fortress is pretty much here to stay. Johns and Robinson will be involved with the Superman mythos for quite sometime.

Meh, the current Arctic Fortress is perfect. Why go with a version that was around for such a short amount of time when you already have the perfect Fortress.

The Donner Fortress appeared in the comic books in Action Comics 840. That was released a few days after Superman Returns. I have no doubt that Donner and Johns had a lot to do with the Donnerverse being versed into the on-going comic books, but I find it impossible for SR not to have any influence on it. There is a precedent of comic books adapting elements -visual or otherwise- from the movies and since it was a well-known fact that SR would follow after the Donnerverse and we know how much WB was riding on the project, it's a safe bet that Superman's return on the silver screen in the Donnerverse had a pretty big effect on the comic books as well.

What you find perfect, I find downright awful and have no desire to see again for a very, very long time to come.

I'm pretty sure Johns and Busiek would've included the Donner Fortress no matter what. It's just seredipitous that SR also came out at the same time.

If the crystals are lost somewhere, after falling out of Lex's helicopter at the end of Superman Returns...isn't the Fortress useless? I'm sure Superman could find them if he wanted to, but you think the movie makers will keep the FOS? If the movie is going to be a sequel to SR, then I think we've seen the last of the FOS. If it is a reboot, they most likely will keep it out of the movie all together...part of what Lex did in Returns is kill the link between the Father and the Son...it just adds to Superman's loneliness and I think is the right decision...it's as if Superman doesn't need Jor-El anymore...he is his own man now...if Nolan or someone like him where to do "Superman Begins" I think the FOS would be the first big thing they would take away from Superman in an attempt to make him more human and real...

It is going to be a reboot so the fortress should appear and should be different than how it was in SR and the Donner movies. No more holografic Jor-el heads.

I think a combination of the crystals and another style is the best way to go. They could even make the crytsals a new technology on krypton which jor-el decided to send in order to make the fortress. You would then be able to intergrate a different look and architecure for krypton while still keeping the crystals.

I know I'm starting to get too involved though I promised myself I wouldn't, and more than likely the powers that be would rather I not because of my past, but as an outsider looking in, it seems to me all this supey war stuff continues to this day and I personally wish it'd stop. This is how it begins. Somebody bashes one person's movie or tv show. Then they become irate or whatever and decide to let that influence their criticism of that person's movie. But I'm not totally aware of how things are these days, so I'm not going to pretend to know.

I'll tell you what I do know to be true; most smallville fans never gave returns a chance. As a fan I watched the movie and felt an incredible sense of inner conflict over whether to be honest and true to myself or  at all the guys who bashed up on smallville to prop up Returns. I chose the latter and it's on one hand, not that big a deal to me, on the other I'm too attached to Lee, show, and a few other posters not to feel guilty at all for screwing things up. I honestly don't know whether to cut off and go or tell the truth now about what really went on years back. Will it matter at all, is the question...

maybe its just me but its ok to stop the prodigal son routine. just say what you think without "not asking for sympathy" while asking for sympathy. its in the past. let it go. just talk about what you think now and drop everything else.

anyways, i think some things in smallville are really good, especially the clark/lois relationship that they have now. also, i was shockingly surprised that i enjoyed the doomsday episode of last week. but it seems to me that in the end jor-el is going to give a mind wipe to everyone, so clark can assume his identity and the show can end.

A man died... A man I... It's so hard to look past that... and I would still like to participate from time to time. I'll think about it...

Word. This is why I support Geoff Johns writing or be the creative consulant on MoS with Singer. He always know how to do this things.

And I agree with myway on not getting a Superman reboot yet. Let there be a sequel or semi-sequel or whatever to SR. If it not a success, then maybe they should do a reboot after.

Why? Everyone already knows the Superman Returns approach was flawed and disappointing. The movie wrote itself into a corner with Super-Baby. Why continue this failed direction?

There shouldn't be any second chances because the second chance could be the last chance for atleast 15 years. I don't want to wait till i'm 39 to 44 years old to get another version of Supes besides the Donner one.

Amen to that, once is enough IMO.

the same could be said if the reboot fails. bottom line is whatever they do, they need to make sure they put out a good movie

This is true. But a sequel with Jason is handcuffed from the beginning.

I suppose it's mildly possible to redeem the franchise in everyone's eyes with a really good SR sequel. Though I would much prefer if we go a new route so there is less of an uphill battle from the get-go.

Not everyone think it was flawed & disappointing. I think it can be fixed with a sequel. Singer done it with X-Men, so I want to see what his idea for a sequel. I can't say it will be good or it will suck until I see it. I always keep an open mind until I see the final product.

And Jason was a baby? I thought he was a kid, since he was like 5 or 6 yrs. old. :p

Agree. Just because the previous film suck to some doesn't mean a sequel will be the same or worse. Like I said, I'll wait & hear what the script, plot, etc. is before I start saying it will suck or it will be great.

Warner apparently does. Again, people, let's not forget that there is a huge chunk of pure business here.

^Warners were more than happy with the movie 2 years ago, so that is a ******** comment.

THE reason they are re-booting is completely and utterly financial, nothing to do with their thoughts on the movie.

You're splitting hairs. The point was that WB wasn't happy with what the movie brought in, hence they're rebooting, so it's irrelevant if "everyone thought the movie was flawed and disappointing".
