Plot Thought Wrong

Sandman will live. Venom will die.

Your name doesn't do your reasoning justice my friend.

Yes, Venom will probably die. I'm against it totally, and I think Raimi is being selfish if Eddie Brock dies in this movie. But he's never led us wrong before, so I'm going to keep some faith.

mhh. considering the place of the final battle - maybe sandman will be caught in/mixed up with cement.

Just a thought.

I don't agree with the idea of Sandman getting bitten. Can't a villain live for once?

well theres 3 to choose from this time (symbiote spdiey not included) so It's safe to say at least one will die, i'm pretty sure however two will kick the bucket, i'm thinking sandman and harry. Can nobody correct me with what the script summary or q&a says, frankly because I don't want to know what actually happens, even though I don't necessarily believe it true

Breaking Down the Villains-

Sandman:
Trying to help finance ailing daughter's medical treatments
Kills Ben, but not just for the hell of it.
Wants to be forgiven for his actions
Victim of chance, doesn't seem to abuse his powers

Harry:
Just wants to live up to his father's expectations
Is only out for Spider-Man/Peter
Doesn't appearto want to harm MJ/May at all
Will redeem himself in Peter's eyes

Venom:
Eddie-not exactly a modest character.
Accepts the symbiote willingly/doesn't resist it like Peter
Most likely to exploit all the symbiote's abilities
Carries extreme malice/hate for Peter and Spider-Man
Will carry his hate/grudge straight to the end.
Embodies all the negative qualities of the symiote.
Basically a manifestation of the darkness of Spider-Man that he must beat.

Now you tell me who should live and die here.

Letting Venom live would allow for a controversial character introduction to carry on into potentially nonexistent sequels. Not gonna happen. Venom will die.

Sandman... with a little girl? An antihero of sorts. He will live despite being the killer of Ben Parker. It will be one of those "I'll let him live" situations as a result of a shared empathy for family of some sort.

Not true, letting Eddie Brock live and throwing him in prison signifies closure as well as opportunity should the sequel arise.

You're right about Sandman though.

Welcome to the HYPE!!! (yells like Bill Goldberg)

not really, if eddie brock goes to prison and the symbiote lives then there is a very good oppertunity to have venom return in a sequel. on the other hand if eddie brock dies and the symbiot lives then that will be the end of the symbiote saga but will leave some myseries open because of the symbiote living.

We don't need every villian to enter the screen to die off. If these movies keep going, we all want a Sinister Six film...or am I crazy:huh: I don't want Venom to die because he is not in this movie long enough...but I am happy he will be on screen so I will keep my mouth shut. Allowing him to live and be put in jail like in the comics is just fine with me. He is there and ready to be used again if Raimi or whomever wants to use him again. You kill him off...he is gone for good. I also love the idea of Sandman being a sympathetic villian...it will stir the pot a little...after all, he is our first non-psycho villian. And once again, if the Sinister Six plot where to ever arise, Sandy would be alive.

Sorry, I should have clarified -- I don't think he will *DIE*, but just cease to be a character, unlike Sandman. The symbiote + Eddie will probably cease by the end of the movie. Eddie will probably be in jail, and the symbiote will either be seemingly destroyed or it will spawn something new to lead into a potential Carnage (if so chosen).

...when the book does come out, I can unfortunately guarantee you it will not have the exact same plot and occurences as the movie will.

This isn't always a 100% certainty.

Well the Revenge of the Sith Novelezation was the same as the movie.

Actually, there were plenty of differences. Certain dialogue in the novel that wasn't in the movie, such as that referring to the "expanded universe" of Star Wars, can be overlooked. But a difference such as the spirit Qui-Gon Jinn conversing with Yoda and pretty much explaining the entire concept behind Jedi spirits existing after death and presenting the entire loophole through which Darth Vader redeems himself, well...you get where I'm going with this.

Well said, and totally agreed. My preferred way of things to play out, whether loyalists to these said "leaks" want to go with it or not, goes as follows:

  • Harry dies to bring his redemption full-circle, by either willfully giving his life or by doing something to risk his life, to save a life he previously would have taken himself - that's a complete 180 and it fulfills the purpose of the character. It's a clean break, and a death wouldn't be so bad here
  • Sandman lives because now that Harry has died, one can see why Sandman should live - why die if there is some good left in him? Harry's death can be looked at as the ultimate explanation as to why Sandman shouldn't die, because there is good in him and there is some good to be made of him being allowed to live because (again) there is goodness within him
  • Venom doesn't die - he ceases to be. Eddie Brock lives, but the symbiote doesn't die either...lets say the symbiote is "dispatched." Lets say the symbiote is thought to be disposed of. The symbiote is unconventional, so unlike Dok Ock or Norman, it's harder to gauge whether or not you've put the clamps on it once and for all or not. Can't stab it. Can't drown it. Sonic vibration and or loud noises? Yeah that'll disable it...but for how long? Maybe only so long as the time between this movie and the next? If Eddie lives (prison or otherwise) and the symbiote is not permanently disposed of (and it's totally plausible to imagine it being difficult to know exactly HOW, with 100% certainty, how to do so because it's not exactly a person or anything), the possibility of Venom coming back to play another day is totally acceptable. That's the beauty of Venom - you can "kill him off," in a sense, by simply splitting the two components apart and keeping them seperately opperable

I think sandman unmasks peter while fiting him at the construction site and then Peter says to him "I need ur help. I have to stop It" when venom arrives and they team up. there was a production foto of sandman helping peter up.

you mean this one? sandman isn't helping peter up. he's about to kill spidey with that sand mace, but sandmans wife and daughter arrives right in time and sandmans daughter tells sandman to stop beating up spidey so then sandman, his wife, his daughter walk on home.

actually peter asks harry for help when venom takes MJ

First of all, welcome to the hype, I can tell you're going to be a good contributor.

You made good points about the Revenge of the Sith book. Yes, certain dialogue is changed and the scene with Qui-Gon is left out. BUT, the flow of the story remains the same. The story overall pans out the same way as the book, and although Qui-Gon is never seen, you still hear that he was talking to Yoda. The book for Spider-Man 3 will be similar to that, and if Eddie dies, it will be in the book. I don't think that they will kill him off in the book and not in the movie. I really hope personally that Eddie doesn't die, but hey, this isn't Raimi's character, it was basically Avi Arad's idea.

Lets also not forget that the ending of X3 in film and novel were a bit different from one another. So if Venom takes a big fall or appears dead in the context of the novel, we should still keep an open mind.

Going back to Revenge of the Sith novelization, there's another point the consider - novelist perspective. Along the same lines as merchandising, it's smart to remember that things aren't always as they seem (Lizard among the figure assortment, for example regarding toys). Novelists are allowed to take certain liberties and go places the movie doesn't go, and we may see this very shortly - and it could go many ways.

In short, don't expect to see it just because it plays out in the novel and don't be surprised to see something that the novel doesn't include. The comment about story flow is a great point, but sometimes clever subtleties are the msot magical movie moments. If the novel says the symbiote is dead and is laying in a big motionless blob, don't be shocked if the movie shows that sucker crawling off into a dark corner or down a rain gutter... ;)

Indeed, this is why I'm debating whether I should read the book before or after the movie. I'm a big fan of novels, and I'm afraid I might actually like the book better than the movie.

I guess I'll decide if/when the new trailer comes out. It will probably be around the same time as the book release.

reading the book/playing the game etc, from experience is never a good idea before seeing the movie, they generally play scenes out of context and when it comes to seeing the same scenes in the film, it really does ruin the experience. The best bet is to enjoy the full movie and than watch these scenes in their varied presentations

novels are usually better than the movie

Not with the spider-man movies I can assure you

you think the spider-man movie novels are better than the actual movies?

Venom doesn't need to be killed off, as in the books he becomes somewhat of a twisted vigilante of his own. He's not a one dimensional villain. His reasons for doing what he does are valid, even if they're a bit crazy.

It's sam's interpitation of venom. sam gets to decide what he does with venom but I think theres a good chance venom will die and a good chance venom will live. If venom indeed lives then sam probably did it for us fans, or maybe he did an Alternate ending. I myself think venom should live but if he doesn't I just hope his death from wounds or something.
