When having a debate online, do you go the route of pointing out when someone has typos or grammar issues when they're on the opposite end of the table? Granted, we all do it, but I notice if someone misspells something or their grammar isn't the best it's immediately attacked. I've always said that the worse the grammar, the more stupid their opinion probably is, but is it just an easy weak spot?

I think it depends how bad the poster's grammar is.

How long did it take to proof read that sucker to make sure no one made a dumb joke? I only respond to grammar errors if it is so blatantly horrible that it is unreadable. I only respond to grammar insults if they usually do the same or use it as a last result.

It's really funny to point it out when you talk to cavemen online, but usually, if you do it, you look not only like a prick, but desperate as hell for pointing grammar as a problem out of all things.

If they're mad at me, and I see it, I'll correct them. But only if it's pretty bad... and I have confidence. :O

I've always known it as an insult... but I really shouldn't do it because my grammar is not that super... :csad:

"Maannn you gramer and spelin SUX!!!wat r u? in preschol????!!!"

Eh, I only do it if there entire post is filled with them, and if somebody hasn't beaten me to it yet.

Normally I think it's weak to use in an argument and is a sign that you're too lame to come back with anything substantial. :o

It honestly depends on how poor people’s grammar is, some people sound as if they’re from Kazakhstan.

Ah, but what if they are from Kazakhstan or another non-english speaking country?

Would anyone point out grammatical errors in the post(s) of somebody who's main language isn't English?

I don't point it out anymore, but I sure as hell notice it. :cmad:

I usually dont bother pointing it out. And if theres a alot of grammatical errors, I simply just cease responding to that person's posts.

Yes, because if you're going to do something then do it right!! :cmad: :hyper:

I don't really bother if I know what they mean.

If they stay civil and not go to the "idiot" card---the name-calling, I'll leave it alone.

But try to call me stupid when you don't know when to use "you're" for "your".

Also, misspellings are a little different than just not knowing what to write. After a while, you can tell what source of their problem is.

There’s a few people out who (I won’t name names but you know who you are) have the grammatical skill of a caveman. When I run into those people I just can’t help but steer them in the right direction.

I don't bother if English isn't their first language. That's weak. However, if someone's being a loud-mouthed schnook and unabashedly butchering the language, there's nothing wrong with a few condescending remarks about it. :o

Besides...

Kids, the first person to point out the grammatical error here gets a no-prize!

I'm probably one of the more notorious grammar people on here, but I've usually made it pretty clear that it's not a nitpick thing. I won't point it out unless the context makes it an issue. If someone is trying to make a point about one poster's intelligence versus another's, I'll point it out. If someone's debating in a way that calls for a reflection on intelligence and perspective, while making asinine mistakes, I'll point it out. If someone who's not a native speaker is making so many mistakes, or such logically ridiculous mistakes that it becomes difficult to understand, I'll point it out. Other than that, f**k up the language all you want.

edit - Also, this post was made while drunk, so if there's fewer than two mistakes, you guys have no excuse.

When I'm at Publix and I see "EXPRESS LANE - 10 ITEMS OR LESS" I want to kill myself. :cmad:
