Pokémon - The Live Action Movie Script

This will be really out-of-place compared to most of the movie scripts in this forum, but I'm gonna show you all my work on this anyways

Now I know what you're probably thinking about a live action Pokémon movie: this is either the greatest idea known to mankind or just complete ****. For the latter crowd, I would like to say this:

To me, Pokémon is one of Nintendo's best franchise, yet has SO much untouched potential. What if they tried to take things on a more mature approach? That's what I've wanted to see in the franchise, and that's what I want this movie script to show. Although it'll be a PG-rated script, it'd be a hard PG like the recent Speed Racer movie (only without the annoying kid and chimp).

I was originally going to enter this script into the contest on these boards, but I know I won't have enough time to actually finish it by the deadline. I plan on releasing parts of the script over time in this thread. Also this is the first movie script I've ever tried to write, so I can't promise it'll be perfect.

Anyways, here's the first Teaser Trailer for the movie:

POKÉMON - THE LIVE ACTION MOVIE (TEASER TRAILER)

A large scene of a mesozoic Earth can be seen. A brachiosaurus is eating from a tree. Two Tyrannosaurus Rexes approach the brachiosaurus and roar at it. The three dinosaurs then look up into the sky and see a large meteor is coming towards them; they begin to run from it. Just as the meteor is coming towards the screen, a small white particle of light can be seen flying off of the asteroid.

The camera switches to following the white sphere as it shoots into the distance. The camera goes into a first person view of the white light. It moves quickly over the Pangaea landscape. In mid flight, it begins to fall towards a small island. As it hits the ground, a large white-colored explosion goes across the entire island.

FADE OUT and FADE IN. Two men in white science coats are journeying on the same island millions of years later, overlooking a large cliff.

MAN 1: This is the find of the century Professor! Could they really be the missing link!?

Images begin flashing across the screen:
- Image 1: [http://www.worth1000.com/entries/135000/135286wCEB_w.jpg] is pouncing across the water, with steam coming from out of its body.
- Image 2: [http://fc05.deviantart.com/fs6/i/2005/037/6/b/Hypno_02_by_AnnaJ.jpg] sitting down and looking out at the sky with a fevered look.
- Image 3: [http://fc05.deviantart.com/fs30/f/2008/052/c/7/Onix_by_MetalReaper.jpg] can be seen crashing up and down through the ground, chasing a tiny jeep.
- Image 4: Packs of [http://fc04.deviantart.com/fs19/f/2007/293/5/e/growlithe_by_Acid_Ash.png] are seen running through a forest, with a couple [http://fc02.deviantart.com/fs4/i/2004/208/f/e/Machoke.jpg] seen smashing over the tinier trees, following the dogs.
- Image 5: [http://fc05.deviantart.com/fs4/i/2005/136/d/4/Dragonite_by_shads.jpg] is seen flying through the air, carrying with its hands a human by his arms.
- Image 6: [http://fc07.deviantart.com/fs29/f/2008/057/c/6/c65c85c3745c3717.jpg] is running towards the screen, jumps into the air, and then conducting and letting loose electricity from its body.

PROFESSOR: We can only hope.

The words "POKÉMON" appear on a black screen, with the subtitle "The Power That's Inside".

FADE OUT and FADE IN. A shot of a [http://fc08.deviantart.com/fs11/i/2006/236/4/4/Blastoise___by_guardianofire.jpg] is coming out of the waves on a beach and begins to roar. It begins to charge on all fours at a [http://fc05.deviantart.com/fs9/i/2006/065/8/9/Charizard_by_AnnaJ.jpg], which is flying up in the air shooting fire blasts at the Blastoise, all missing and scorching the ground. The Blastoise stops, steadies its cannons from its shell, and begins pumping out gallons of pressured water at the Charizard.

"Catch it Summer 2008" appears on a black screen.

PROFESSOR: I have gathered you all here.

PROFESSOR: All eight of you …

Image of a young pre-teen GIRL is swimming with two killer whales, cameras flashing from the stands.

PROFESSOR: From around the world.

A LIEUTENANT is seen ordering a group of German Shepherds on a battlefield.

PROFESSOR: Experts in the fields of botany …

A YOUNG WOMAN (1) is seen stroking a flower in a greenhouse.

PROFESSOR: Zoology …

A MIDDLE-AGED MAN in black garments is meditating in a forest, with forest animals coming towards him.

PROFESSOR: And all areas in between.

A YOUNG WOMAN (2) puts her hand out onto a dog’s forehead and closes her eyes.

PROFESSOR: Come with me on a journey.

An old balding SCIENTIST is seen pouring liquid into a flask in a lab.

PROFESSOR: Beyond imagination.

The back of a young KID’s head is seen, turning towards the screen.

PROFESSOR: Welcome to Pokémon Island.

FADE OUT and FADE IN. The KID is seen crouching down to a bed of [http://fc01.deviantart.com/fs8/i/2005/345/2/9/Bellsprout_by_Queen_Triva.png], all looking at him. YOUNG WOMAN 1 is seen standing next to him.

KID: This is amazing.

FADE OUT and FADE IN. An image of a close-up of the PROFESSOR inside a lab.

PROFESSOR: I fear that all I’ve worked for is in vain.

FLASH. A shot of army soldiers lined up outside a military base, with weapons in hand. A new shot is seen with a SHADOWY MAN snickering. FADE OUT and FADE IN. A [http://fc08.deviantart.com/fs19/i/2008/145/a/9/Tauros_by_stalit.jpg] is seen wailing inside a net.

PROFESSOR: They will be discovered, and they will be abused by man.

A scene with the TEENAGER, GIRL, and KID appears.

TEENAGER: We can’t just sit back and let this happen!

A large explosion coming from a forest is seen. A new shot of the SHADOWY MAN occurs, leaning out from a helicopter laughing. Shot of just the KID, looking sorrowfully towards the ground.

KID: I know what I must do.

KID: Let’s do this.

The July 4 date is an estimate date for ... well I just came up with it. Not sure when I'll start posting the script in pieces. Expect the date in this, and other, trailers to change

The second Trailer will probably come before I start posting the actual script. Maybe I'll be posting a third one. Not sure, all depends.

So how do you view the League and the Gym Leaders, in relation to your approach in adapting Pokemon? That Arcanine I don't like. I actually envisioned a more wolf-like creature whereas the one you've picked resembles a bear. That dragonite looks pretty good though and that Nidoking would scare the piss out of me irl.

I always thought that Pokemon could be a good live action franchise.
If I was in charge of a Pokemon movie Id make it PG-13 because the pokemon battles would have to be brutal...Im talking Golden Compass 'jaw ripping' brutal

Oh and if Golden Compass and Narnia can make their creatures look cool it shouldn't be a problem for pokemons.

When I was younger I was in to Pokemon...I must say I find it stuipid today but somewhere inside me I cannot deny I would be exited about a film like that. The only thing you should change about the design that if they are from space then something like Blastois (or whatever his name is) shouldn't have cannons made out of metal...Maybe something like big see shells or sth. I love how the Charizard has it's tail redesigned.

Good WORK on the trailers it's cool, I mean really cool.

Their really isn't a league right now. The world doesn't know about these powerful creatures yet. What you'll be seeing are the very FIRST Pokemon Trainers.

That's actually supposed to be a Growlithe, not an Arcanine. It does look sorta bear-like, but I still like it.

Although I'm not going PG-13, I am going hard PG. Face it, Nintendo would NEVER allow a PG-13 Pokemon.

That realistic Blastoise design is I think my favorite image. You're right about the cannons though. If you want, you can image the guns as big sea shells.

True, its not 10 year olds traveling the world, but the main characters will be fairly young. Don't worry, they'll be older then 10.

A MOTHER and KID are inside a house. The MOTHER is holding a pile of mail.

MOTHER: … there's some mail for you.

KID: Really?

FADE OUT and FADE IN. The KID is reading a letter. The voice of an old PROFESSOR can be heard.

PROFESSOR: … your very own Pokémon legend is about to unfold! A world of dreams and adventures with Pokémon awaits!

FLASH. The KID is inside a lab, looking into a glass-like case. Bits of metal lie inside. A quick jolt of electricity strikes the metal, and the metal begins to magnetize together. A [http://fc01.deviantart.com/fs5/i/2004/289/0/f/Magnemite_by_AnnaJ.jpg] is formed, and looks at the KID.

FADE OUT and FADE IN. Back inside the house with the KID and MOTHER.

KID: Mom, can I ...!?

The MOTHER’S eyes close; she puts on a sullen face.

FADE OUT and FADE IN, FLASH. A bird’s-eye view of a cruise ship at sea, the camera slightly turning around it. FADE OUT and FADE IN. Eight shadowed figures inside a tunnel are walking towards the screen. FADE OUT and FADE IN. A shot of the PROFESSOR at the docks is shown.

PROFESSOR: I have gathered you all here. All eight of you ...

FLASH. A shot of a forest on an island is on fire. FLASH. A RED-HAIRED GUY is seen looking anxious towards the PROFESSOR inside a lab.

RED-HAIRED GUY: I can’t protect the island alone. We need trainers.

GIRL: What are they after?

FLASH. Soldiers are parachuting from planes in the sky above the island. You could incorporate the little known fact that in groups of 4, they've been known to eat people.

For your vision, you could base the design off of this one:

I actually think you could pull this off. I mean putting realism into Pokémon is hard. But with the new designs, and the way you're approaching it is very interesting. I think this could be one of the best screenplays I've read in a long time.
