I don't think we're gonna have two invasions, I just think he's strictly talking about his deal with Thanos.

I do, too.
That's why I said I think it plays out that Thanos gives Loki *his army* in exchange for the Gauntlet; Thanos himself will have no part or interest in the invasion himself.

In other words, Thanos' role may be a cameo....just an encounter in space/ the cosmos/ the Nine Realms between he and Loki cutting a deal. Not likely that Thanos will interact with the Avengers at all....until next time....

muwahahahahahahaaaa

The Avengers is supposed to close this chapter of the marvel cinematic universe yet you want to open a lot of things for sequels, i sincerelly hope they don't put unecessary cameos

What's unnecessary? The MCU doesn't end at Avengers. They still have to set up an entire universe.

You can set up a universe but you don't have to set up a dozen of sequels.
A normal viewer should have the possibility to watch Iron Man to Avengers and then stop if he want, draging a storyline for too long can hurt the universe as a whole too, look at the x-men franchise for example

Meh.... X Men had huge potencial, it just fell appart with Ratner... nothing can recover from that.

I also think they need to open up a lot of the MCU cosmic side through The Avengers, as well as other aspects of the marvel universe. We could get an intro to a few characters related to Thanos. There were rumors at one point, of a Thanos solo movie(with him as an almost anti-hero) and a GOTG movie; so they may be setting up Thanos, for his own film, or Avengers 2, or another cosmic marvel film. Maybe multiple. He could become an even more bad ass overarching threat than Loki.

I'm thinking Thanos will be supplying the mercs too. Staying offworld somewhere in the universe on his ship. He might be a little bit more than a cameo though, and could be tied into the post-credit scene as well like lots of people are saying. The point I'm making is that there's so much going on in this movie that I expect Thanos' screentime to be short but effective like the emperor in Star Wars. It really seems Loki will be our villain for the majority of the film. We'll probably see him controlling the Hulk as a major plot point still. So, there's just too much going on with the invasion and formation of the team, and Loki possibly switching sides--to have an all out battle against a fully powered Thanos. Maybe some lesser characters working for Thanos.. And if Thanos does show up Loki's not going to let him just take the gauntlet with all the gems. I could see him scattering them across the 9 realms so Thanos has to spend time across the movies gathering them. Then they would only be fighting Thanos pre-gauntlet and gems, and could have Loki's help. Or, maybe he only hands over the gauntlet fulfilling that part of the bargain.

It would be cool just to see Loki make a quick deal with him to get the army. It really seems like the gems/gauntlet are involved, but I think they will make Thanos' quest span a few movies to turn Thanos into the ultimate threat. I just can't see a powered up Thanos appearing in the first film. If the rumors are true, I expect Loki to doublecross Thanos or join up with the Avengers against his forces. Thanos could just be after the cosmic cube too and the gauntlet may not be involved at this point. Maybe he'll get one gem, or the gauntlet, or somehow gains either in the post-credits.
If Thanos appears on earth and confronts the avengers then I really think he won't have all of the infinity gems. It could be that by the end Loki has no intention to hand over the gauntlet/gems or even cosmic cube at all.

How does setting up Thanos for a sequel = "a dozen of sequels"....?

Again, the way I see it, Thanos isn't even interested in the Avengers or the Earth right now. All that happens (speculation still, for those of you who wondered) is that Loki meets Thanos in space during his cosmic travels, trades the Infinity Gauntlet to him in return for some bad-ass henchies, and Thanos goes on with his life elsewhere. There may not be any indication at all that Loki even tells Thor or the Avengers about Thanos --- why would he?

A viewer can stop watching the movies at any point he or she chooses. Unless you're arguing that Marvel shouldn't lay the groundwork for sequels in such a way that it makes people want to watch the upcoming films? That argument doesn't hold much weight since the goal is to create a dynamic universe with stories that flow from each other, like the comic books. Even then, anyone who doesn't care to see other movies can always opt out.

In the comics, Iron Man 55 to be exact, Thanos joins space criminals and gangsta like Loki is doing.
Maybe Thanos is in the movie too since Loki also said:
We have an army

Good point.
Also interesting: I didn't know this, but IM #55 is Thanos' first appearance in the Marvel U.

Yup, i've been reading some Thanos stories to see where all the love for him came from.
Now i really like the idea of him as the movie villain

I agree. I re-read The Infinity Gauntlet a couple of days ago. What a great villain. But I guess we won't see him in full antagonist mode until the sequel and more like an Emperor-esque figure in the first one.

Heh, I just pulled THANOS QUEST out of Mothballs. I loved seeing him swindle/outsmart/beat all the different Elders for the gems.
Those two books firmly entrenched in my mind, the universal danger and power that is THANOS.

I'd say the Loki, leading a Skrull invasion fleet to Earth. At least that's what I got out of the end of Thor. Loki gets picked up by Skrulls, or arrives at the Skrull homeworld, tells them about Earth,

I'm pretty much past the skrull/kree state of mind. I just don't think its them.

Maybe it won't actually be Thanos who appears in the Avengers, but a Skrull con man posing as him, who is after a device that makes string cheese. ;)

nah, i prefer real Thanos to appear :cwink:
I'm past the skrull being in it but i now believe Thanos may be in

I've pretty much killed the thought of the Skrulls being in this film.

Yeah, that was a reference to Superhero Squad.

Avengers 1 : Loki/alien gang/thanos intro
Avengers 2 : Thanos with Local villains as his minions/Ultron intro
Avengers 3 : Ultron/and even though he isnt a villain, intro captain marvel

Villain the I: Skrulls/Kree
Avengers II: Thanos (with the Avengers going offworld)
Avengers III: Avengers Dissassembled.

Disassembled by III....?
I hope not. Two movies isn't enough time for them to actually be a team.

Besides, Disassembled most definitely requires the existence of Scarlet Witch, and at this point, most of the conventional wisdom says that Fox has the rights to the Maximoffs, not Marvel.

If Thanos doesn't say "OOPS! I dropped the cube!" they may as well not bother. :o

Avengers Disassembled also sucked, so big no.
