hate to say it, but this is spideys time, batmans time was the 90's, its why superman failed miserably this year, no one cares about him anymore. But who cares at least we know we managed to get two batman movies which are considered the best comic book movies ever made (and one thats the worse). spider-man 3 has the most amount of hype and popularity though.

Superman is no where near the worst Superhero ever. He's one of the best and will always be one of the best. The reason Superman Returns failed was for various reasons...

a) It was a continuation of a 30(?) year old series.

b) The audience probably expected Superman and Lex to have a final confrontation.

There are more but these are the main ones.

Also, truth be told, Superman Returns didn't even fail though I kinda wish it did so we wouldn't have all this "I'll choose and pick which stuff happened in the past" crud. They just needed to cut the connection with the Donner films. And before someone says something, the only reason I *kinda* wish it failed was just so that maybe we could get a Superman restart in a shorter time period than what it would take after Superman Returns and its sequels are done. Also, the Superman restart doesn't have to have his origin, it just doesn't need to be connected to any past films.

As for popularity, right now Spider-Man has more hype than Batman just because Spidey 3 is coming out sooner than The Dark Knight. It probably just deals with the fact that we know more about the Spider-Man film than we do about the next Batman. When The Dark Knight is about to appear, there will be hype, maybe more so than Spider-Man or maybe not. We're just not there yet.
