The Dark Knight Dark Knight Hype

I just remember during Batman Returns McDonalds had toys along with cups advertising the movie. I agree with the comment before that Venom is not kid friendly and he's getting advertised pretty heavily. If think about it Penguin (from Returns obviously) might have been the most un kid friendly villian anyone has ever seen and was stilled promoted. And now that I stop to think about it I remember seeing clips for Spiderman 3 last summer and it's about the same timeframe before this movie get released and we've gotten nothing.

One thing I will say is that Spiderman may have gone too far with this movie. After reading some reviews it sounds like most of the action scenes have already been spilled on one of the what seems like 10,000 trailers for the movie. I'm greatful that it seems like most of the plot will be hush hush (although it can be painful sometimes). WB definitly should do something to start pumping this movie even if it's just pictures in magazines. It will be a huge mistake if they take the approach of BB. If they were unsure of their product then, they have no reason to be now. It was a huge success and this movie should be treated as a slam dunk sure thing.

Well, a great marketing campaign for The Dark Knight, yes. Spoil too many scenes (I hope they really didn't do with Spider-Man 3), no.

the whole Venom being advertised heavily isn't really VENOM, though . . . yeah he's in commercials, but only for the movie . . . you have SPIDEY in the black costume tied in w/ Burger King, not actually Venom . . .

Yea you are correct so maybe Venom isnt the best example. I still would be willing to bet that he'll show up somewhere down the line to attract people. I'm not tryin to be critical of Spiderman's advertisement. No matter what franchise there is there are parts that won't be kid friendly. I just think TDK would be dropping the ball if it doesn't do more to attract the average movie goer. TDK should be treated as an event more than a movie. (Thats my opinion of all summer blockbusters) Although it's still early I think it would be a smart move to start getting some attention and talk going about the movie outside of the dedicated fan circle. Maybe like a promotional poster with a countdown on the bottom or something. As we get closer though Id love to here about TDK signing contracts to promote products.

Im sure they will have a spot on CW. Not as glorious as the WB days but it will do because its corporate synergy. TDK will be bigger than BB due to the hype, trust and Joker-Batman factor but its not so huge like the Marvel movies. Am I alone in feeling these days that the masses have move on from the DC heroes and are more into Spiderman than Batman and Superman? But I learned my lesson AGAIN because after seeing Spiderman 3 I wont have this skyhigh expectations for TDK and part anymore. They say the best comes in threes but now its clear Spiderman should have stopped at 2. The trilogy was for completists but for quality and Spiderman fans Im disappointed. Im having Matrix and Star Wars traumatic flashbacks.

I feel that people are attracted to Spiderman more than DC heroes, due to the possible fact that Spiderman's for the family and kids.

True but still I just feel that Batman is much bigger than the rest of this superheroes and just about everyone even those that dont like him know about him. I dont expect that honor for Batman but at least for Superman. I feel sad watching kids even my own nephews sport all this Spidey backpacks and T-shirts. I need to brainwash them more about Batman.:cwink:

i didn't know where else to put this (from latino review's latest script review):

Next week, we take a look at the script for a superhero movie that comes out next summer! Believe me, you don’t want to miss this!

DISCLAIMER: We don't have the script nor don't care to either and this is merely an opinion piece (ever heard of the first amendment: FREEDOM OF SPEECH and FREEDOM OF PRESS?) so if you need to reach Kel, his response will be "Dude, I am busy."

pretty funny, i think

I commented on this in another thread:

From what I understand, one of the reasons they were having problems doing a script review (aside from the fact they did not actually have it) was that everytime they hinted about it, WB lawyers were on them like a pack of wolves. They thought they had the script, which wasn't quite the case.

Assuming it's TDK (and the disclaimer fits, IMO) they've basically headed them off by saying 'we don't have the script, we're just writing an opinion piece *about it* and you can't prove otherwise.' It's legal bull****, of course, but like the watered down Wolverine review, it's enough to avoid trouble.

Does this mean they will actually have a review this time? They've gone the trouble of the disclaimer...but I'm not prepared to put money on it.
