Poster/Moderator Discussion Thread!

I think this can be achieved as long as the deep debates don't involve throwing insults at each other, there is no spamming in breaking posts up and having drawn out debates, the only issue is when the posts are filled with cussing and flaming.
Exactly, but remember that it can be more complex than face value. As we both know, posters with long histories can really rib each other. It's easy to be mistaken if you don't spend a lot of time "around" them.

I think we can work around that, the issue in those types of instances would be not the flaming of each other but the use of extreme cussing in the back and forths, we try to keep that toned down, so if you guys can do that then we can make sure that we address a heated debate for what it is.

You DON'T put it in the microwave.
Unless you want to blow up your kitchen.

You cook it like on the stove...

Of course. If a conversation/argument/flamewar is going nowhere but down, then a mod should lock it and tell the parties to cool it. Anyone would expect you to.

A lot of times the steam is coming only from highly-opinionated or fact-oriented posts. One time Phaser and I were going six pages strong on whether Dolby 7.1 surround sound in "Call of Duty 2" really made a difference over Dolby 5.1 and I nearly had an emotional breakdown. Still, I didn't have any personal problem with it because, hey, we're just talking about facts, preference and balancing them with budgets and time. In those cases, they should be allowed to persist because it really lets the two posters get a good idea of one another and often times, respect is born. I'm really glad a mod didn't think it was just a fight and closed it, because it did look rather harsh (no curses thanks to the swear-filter).

I know it's kind of silly to someone who wouldn't understand it, but I've made "friendships" here through long discussions with a lot of stern opinions and facts and we should allow those kinds of topics to run their course.

It seems like you know all this already, and you're starting to see that this place isn't "Hell" and is actually quite a nice place when the pieces are oiled. You also seem to be showing trust and respect for us, which is really a first. It's giving me a good feeling that you really do want to be "moderators" and not "banners".

I see these type of debates in the movie threads and such, passion is passion, the topic is irrelevant to that IMO. You guys clearly know your games and I do see that shifting the set up in here as far as sub forums go can be a huge help, i can't promise this b/c Mirko has to ok it but i will talk to him and propose and back it. I see no issue with a big debate dominating the thread, but say if that debate was taking place within a thread talking about a game in general, it can force other posters out, my course of action there would be to have you guys set up a specific thread for that debate so that others who just wanted to talk about the game in general could do so and those interested in a specific issue could also have their debate.

I know it's kind of silly to someone who wouldn't understand it, but I've made "friendships" here through long discussions with a lot of stern opinions and facts and we should allow those kinds of topics to run their course.

Not silly b/c ive been there, not over games but movies.

That is the aim, we will no doubt iron things out fully as we go, but i feel we got a start on things in this thread that can lead to a good understanding.

QFT. Great post, WHF.

I support Blas in his opinion that Jiffy Pop is the snack food of the Gods.

I'm of the opinion that Cesar Romero was a bad Joker! :cmad:

Just kidding, I love you man. And your crazy yet awful opinions on the Joker design. :o :o :o

If by awful and crazy, you mean brilliant and logical, then cool.

I still remember Drak's final words to me before he left this place. "Ban everyone in the Games forum. Damn you, listen to me! Pull up your damn pants! Ban them all, or regret it later! Ban them allllllllll!"

Miss you, Drak. :csad:

DOG LIPS! Stay and make my heart happy!

Putting the forums back together is a bad idea. They were segregated because there was so much overlap of opinions that the entire section develolved into flamewars and trolling. It's onl after they've been segregated for the longest time that people have calmed down.

Keep the forums the way they are!

Fran™ has spoken.

Yeah, it's much better now with the Xbots targeting the Sony section with endless spam. :whatever:

I see not this spam. In fact this section seems to have the most off topic spam.

All the forum split accomplished was making people sit through more loads to get to the posts they wanted to read. And with this site's crappy servers, that's not a good thing.
