The Curious Case of Benjamin Predator

See the Pred gradually turn into a baby.

Ok, guys. You've had your fun now lets get back on topic. Any more Predator title swapping will be deleted.

FINALLY saw this tonight and though I enjoyed it my feelings are.......mixed I think is the best word.

It had a great set-up, really enjoyed the story and the way the characters came together, really liked the characters being really distrustful of each other and growing as a group during the movie. Some really good characters there who you find yourself rooting for despite the fact that they are there because they have done evil things. Brody impressed, Braga and Grace were good all the others were spot on in their roles as well, even Larry Fishburne, though I hoped he would last a bit longer and show us the skills that have kept him alive for so long.

I just didnt think many of the set-pieces worked, the Predator dogs were cool but could take 200 bullets from a mini-gun one minute and be killed by a knife the next. I thought the Yakuza scene was well done but personally just wouldnt see a Predator dying from those wounds, especially a super-pred, seeing a hand-gun pierce the Predator's skin was weird enough but swords and knives? Not really in continuity with the previous movies IMO.

I wish we had gotten more of the Predator blood feud as well, we only really got to see the super-preds at the end, although I was happy to see the normal Pred put up a pretty good fight, and the ending battle with Royce was well done. I think the budget was definately an issue at times and a big WTF moment for me was one moment Royce had his gun, the next he never and never used it again.

Thoroughly enjoyable though but its the human characters who make the movie, the Pred's were a little dissapointing in this IMO, although I loved the various nods to the first movie, and the score, 8/10, good flick that could have done more but I hope they do another one that delves deeper into the storyline.

Definately, I was enjoying it but couldnt help thinking throughout that something was missing, didnt really have a wow factor to the movie.

my mom watched it with me and she hates horror and mosnter movies and she like it

I went with my Dad tonight who is a huge fan of the first movie, he really enjoyed it also, as did I, just felt a bit more could have been done, I think the budget definately hampered them at some points.

I could help also feeling that if RR had directed this himself it would have been that bit better.

Awwwww, I had a lot more I wanted to share, I was just getting started.... :(

Agreed, this was one of the things that bothered me most about the movie. Preds are physically tough as nails and it was such a let-down to see one killed by a sword and two others beheaded (which incidentally reminded me of the cauterized beheadings in Sleepy Hollow). I mean, in P2 we saw that Pred take more than one direct blast from a friggin' shotgun and it wasn't dead yet, plus it got back up after that and started chasing after Harrigan!

I remember P2 Pred also smashed Harrigan's shotgun against the floor as a display of strength. That means in the Yakuza fight, the force of the Pred's wristblades alone should've knocked the sword out of that guy's hands like a whistle! But did it?

That whole warehouse/freezer scene in P2 was bad-ass and we didn't get anything like that in Predators. I said it before and I'll say it again, P1 Pred or P2 Pred could've wiped the floor with the so-called Super Black Preds from this new movie. :(

Well I would argue that the Predator in P2 isn't that awesome. I mean he gets caught out in the open twice, onnce on the roof top at the first of the movie and to me it seems like Danny Glover thinks he's just seeing things. And the worst of the two times he get caught out in the open is when the ittle kid runs up on him. But I've never been a fan a P2 and alway thought he was a lesser Predator than the Predator in P1. By the way I think the Predator in P1 might just be the baddest of the bunch.

P2's Predator has always been my favorite. He's not only totally badass but he even displays some character and personality throughout the film, and isn't just a mindless killer who kills for no reason. I think he would've easily held his own against the Super Predators from this film or even the mercenaries, if he didn't get overconfident like he did in the film.

If we're talking a letter grade here.

C - Just ok or average, maybe a C+ because it was pretty entertaining at times. Which I guess gives it about a 6.

For people giving it higher than an 8, that is just crazy. Because Predator is clearly superior to this one and that only maybe gets an 8 on a scale of 10, possibly 9 at the most.

^On your scale perhaps. I personally would give the first Predator a 10.

I really liked this film. Really solid acting from pretty much everyone, which is a surprise as this is nothing more than a glorified B-movie really.

Reading recent reports on the net, i really, really hope Rodriguez does that Deadpool movie.

If you recall, in Pred 2, he gets his arm cut off and dies from a blade going into his stomach, so I don't see how dieing by a sword is an issue. Granted, I would have preferred that the Pred wiped the floor with him, but i kinda got the feeling that he was (mistakenly) just toying with the guy and that was his downfall.

Don't get me wrong, I love Predator. I think it's great and watch it every time it comes on. But I ca't give it a 10, if for any but two reasons. 10 would mean perfection and that is extremely rare for anything.

The other, Terminator 2. Predator is not a better movie than that and if that doesn't get a 10, I can't give Predator a 10. imho

Exactly, Pred in pred one took a grenade explosion from point blank range twice as well and didnt even bleed, Pred 2 on the train took gunfire from all sorts of handguns and didnt even bleed, yet a Pred, sorry, a SUPER pred gets cut a few times by an earth made sword and dies from the wound? Nah, sorry.

If the sward was made by the Predators, then it would something different.

I totally recall Predator 2, but that blade was made from Predator material and was A LOT stronger than anything earth made, as the scientist who examined the small spear said, bit of a difference from an ancient sword made on earth.

You know Katana's can slice through an entire pig with one swing right?

I know how strong they are, but in the previous movies Pred's have taken gunfire from all kinds of weapons to the sturnum and not even been cut, and even when have been wounded, they would get right back up and do a lot more damage.

Bearly. P2 probably never got hit on any vital organs.

But who cares...the Predator HAD to die. It was GOING to die. The Humans had to win. I dont see why it was such a big deal. He got sliced right through...that's enough to kill.

I'm with CelticPredator on this one, I could see a well made katana killing a predator if it hit it in critical points

Not to mention that had to be one of the most surprising parts in a film in forever.

Though I ordered the novelization from Amazon, turns out it's the comic book adaptation. I skimmed through it and saw characters referring to each other by name, meaning I already like it more than the film.
