I disagree. I think Superman did allow us to relate to him. When he came back from Krypton knowing full well that it was destoyed he felt out of place like he didnt feel like he didnt belong anywhere. The only home that he thought he could find was now destoyed and now he comes back and finds out that the world moved on without him making him feel more isolated and alone. Something we all could related to in some parts of our lives at some point. Superman at first doesnt know whether he should act like a human even though he isnt one and blend in with everyone else. My point is Superman came back and lost his real purpose of why he was there in the first place because he thought he was alone. He went searching for others like him when in reality it was there on earth all along. To me he wasnt being just love struck either, even though losing lois and finding out that she moved on to someone else killed him too. To me it showed superman can have emotions and can make mistakes and not just be about the actions ALL the time.
Superman can still be who he is and still inflict some inner conflict with himself as well as emotions. In this movie is shows that and that is what makes him human something we all rarely see in superhero movies. That is what people like to see. Maybe for you, you need to see the balance between Superman /action/emotions, but it just cant work like that. and I am sorry you didnt enjoy it but maybe that was the whole point. Singer made this movie not just based on the how superman should act, but how how superman feels as well.
