Prometheus - Part 3

Really? Of all the classic science fiction franchises that Mass Effect is clearly inspired by, I don't think the Alien is among them.

Agreed. It's probably the film they are least inspired by compared to the likes of Star Wars, Star Trek, 2001 etc. Hell, H.P. Lovecraft is more of an inspiration.

I don't think this has ever been brought up. Isn't it weird how a shot from Alien 3, not Alien or Aliens, is arguably the most iconic shot from the whole series?

I was just thinking about that the other day.

It's not weird for me necessarily because I actually really like Alien 3. But I do understand how others could see it as strange.

Regarding Noveria, I did get a very slight Aliens feel from it. But only for like ten or twenty minutes until the "queen" starts talking to you and reveals that they're actually an intelligent species.

It is strange actually, I mean to be fair its a great shot and its probably the closest Ripley has come in the franchise to the Alien with no weapons or protection, so I can see why it was chosen. But yeah Alien and Aliens are a lot more well known and iconic in terms of movies.

^The new pic looks suitably eerie. I really cant wait for this movie, think I am anticipating this more than any other movie this year, so I hope it doesnt dissapoint.

I'm surprised we still haven't seen any pics or video of some of the other more high profile actors in this like Patrick Wilson, Guy Pearce and Ben Foster even though they probably have smaller parts in the movie.

^Is Ben Foster definately in this? I heard that he was but he is never on any cast lists or anything.

^Yeah I think he is great, and would be another fantastic addition to an already amazing cast.

Because it is a tight shot that features the two stars and escence of the entire series.

I'm with you as far as being among the few that like Alien 3. It was the first Alien movie I was old enough to see in the theater. I DID NOT like it when I first saw it. But over time I have really come to appreciate it and respect that Fincher had the balls on his very first movie to say F-you, and start from scratch. I suspect that is the reason most people don't like it, because it is such a dramatic left turn after Aliens.
Though it is different, it still feels like an Alien film, set in the Alien universe. Ressurrection on the other hand, feels like someone tried to make a parody of Aliens. I treat Resurrection like I do Terminator 3 and Burton's Planet of the Apes...doesn't exist.

I enjoy A3 too, well, the assembly cut anyway. Never tried watching the theatrical but from what I know about it there is no point. There are some great designs and photography in that film. Shoddy compositing effects aside, it looks beautiful.

I also ignore Ressurection. There's nothing worthwhile in it for me. I like T3 though, despite its faults. Salvation is the ugly baby in that franchise.

I like Alien 3 a lot. Despite having a cluster**** of a mess to script Fincher still manages to create some awesome atmosphere and some fantastic shots. Ripley rocks in it too and I love the ending.

Totally agree. For me, the series ended after Alien 3. Or at least I wish it did. I sort of have a theory that if it did indeed end there, it wouldn't receive nearly as much hate as it does. I think most people would probably regard it similar to The Godfather Part 3. "Well, that was kind of disappointing. It wasn't as good as the first two, but it was still pretty good."

But of course it didn't there. So it's very easy for people to look at the dip in quality you see in Alien 3 and put all the blame on it and think it was the harbinger of all the terrible **** that followed it and treat the film like some kind of horrible abomination.
