http://www.slashfilm.com/2009/04/28/ridley-scott-is-considering-alien-prequelreboot/

20th Century Fox head Tom Rothman revealed to IESB that there is “some talk” of an Alien “prequel” to go along with the recently announced Robert Rodriguez-produced Predator reboot Predators. Rothman confirms that director Ridley Scott is “toying around with the idea.” And the Fox head gives the impression that another Alien movie, be it sequel, prequel or reboot, would only happen with Scott’s involvement.

I remember reading an interview with Scott where the filmmaker expressed interest in making a prequel that would explore the origins of the space jockey and the Aliens. At one point James Cameron was working on an origin story for a fifth Alien film, but abandoned the development when Aliens vs. Predator was announced. Sigourney Weaver has publicly expressed interest in doing a sequel, but it wouldn’t make sense to include her character in an origin story. But who knows, maybe Ridley is “toying” with some kind of reboot/prequel combo.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww s***

Idris Elba? THis cast is so awesome. I dont care what the story is like I like everyone in the cast. I'll be there day 1

Yea I can't wait for the first trailer. I'm getting goosebumps.

Regarding the plot, I think Scott's lying. There's no way it's tied to Greek mythology. Take a look at Damon Lindelof's latest twitter post. You'll see.

This is an Alien Prequel. To me that' slike saying The Hobbit is not a prequel to Lord of the Rings since Bilbo is almost non-existent in LOTR and the Ring is nothing more then a small part of the story in The Hobbit.

If there is Aliens in this (regardless of their DNA structure we've seen dog/oxen) it is still Alien. If it has the Space Jockey in it and still considers it canon when they crash on LV-426 and have WY as The company it's still Alien. Call it what you want Scott but it's a prequel. It very well may be expanding vastly to new areas of the universe but just like LOTR did after the Hobbit it expanded the world and made a small part of the story into something huge (like the Space Jockey).

So I"m stoked for this but it's pretty clear also from what Michael said, it's Alien just expanded into a much larger universe and story.

I think it will follow Greek mythology tropes and themes not directly adapt if Scott ever mentioned it.

As for the rumors flying around they all sound interesting and the cast so far is amazing. This is what I've been wanting to see for such a long time, Scott back in sci-fi. Lets see if he's still got that amazing eye for it.

Really excited.

the cast is amazing. so lets hope the Scott will have the balls to make sure that hes directors cut will be realesed in the theater.

and lets hope that he will find a way to make the movie dark yet bright enough for the 3D glasses. Tron Legacy was to dark. fact.

I seriously can't wait for this

For your theater maybe. Not mine.
Same here, Tron Legacy was pitch perfect in terms of brightness levels and clarity at my theater.

To be honest, the whole "3D darkens the image" thing sounds to me like its more a product of shi*** theater projections more than anything else. With a properly calibrated theater, which the ones I go to seem to be, there should be no issue at all.

I, Robot: Michael Fassbender Confirms He’ll Be Playing An Android In ‘Prometheus’
While speculation runs irritatingly rampant about “Prometheus” and what exactly from “Alien” will appear in this not-a-prequel to the film, Michael Fassbender has finally confirmed a long swirling rumor about who he will play in the film that is keeping plot and character details very, very close close to the chest.

In an interview with EW when asked directly if he would be playing an android in the film he stated, “I don’t know what I can say!” nodded affirmatively adding, “I don’t want to get into trouble…” Yeah, that’s how secretive Ridley Scott wants to be about this forthcoming film.

Again asked about the connections between “Alien” and “Prometheus,” Fassbender once again said a variation of the same statement he’s been making for the past while. Scrutinize away: “It’s a different story, but it’s also got the traditional roots. ‘Alien’ fans will recognize things in it. It’s not ignoring ‘Alien,’ there’s still a link to that world. But it’s a different story. It’s definitely connected, though.” Got all that. It’s connected, but it isn’t, but it is.

So what more do we know? Fassbender is an android so throw that in a pot, stir and we’re sure more rumors will start cropping up. In the meantime in more solid news, Idris Elba, Sean Harris and Kate Dickie were announced as the latest additions to the cast, though of course, their roles were not specified. They join Noomi Rapace and Charlize Theron in the film. Once Fassbender finishes up “Shame” with Carey Mulligan that he’s currently shooting with “Hunger” director Steve McQueen in New York, he’ll fly to London and head to Pinewood were production is mounting for “Prometheus.” The film will hit theaters on June 8, 2012.

Prometheus Films in Scotland

Aint It Cool News recently reported that Prometheus will be filming in Scotland:
“The Scottish Daily Express reported today that Inverness or Fort William in the Scottish Highlands will be the production base for an August and September shoot. According to the article, other mountainous parts of Europe had been considered but the Scottish Highlands best suited the film’s theme of “grand mythology and the universe” (the relative proximity to Pinewood Studios in England where the rest of the film is shooting wouldn’t have hurt either).”

Idris Elba is in this? Maybe he can finally get away from the horrile movie career he's having.

I wouldnt call it horrible. Not the best.

But Im sure hes happy he's getting movie work unlike 95% of the other actors on The Wire

Looks like this film is set to have a very long shoot! (March-November)

And I live in ... yes, in Scotland! So gonna track down Ridley. :oldrazz:

95%? He's the only one other than DON'T MESS WITH OMAR that came out of that with a career.

Rafe Spall Joins The Cast Of Ridley Scott’s ‘Prometheus’

Daily Mail’s Baz Bamigoye seemingly sings a different tune, arguing that the film is very much a prequel to Scott’s “Alien” with the monster reportedly “being developed right now” and is one that “is so terrifying it’s scaring the designers!”:awesome:

British up and comer Rafe Spall is the latest addition to the ever-growing cast of Ridley Scott‘s next film “Prometheus” which has been reported to be inspired/linked to the 1979 sci-fi classic “Alien” but isn’t quite a prequel. The actor—who’ll next be seen in Roland Emmerich‘s “Anonymous” as well as Lone Scherfig‘s “One Day”—will star along side the likes of Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Noomi Rapace, Idris Elba, Sean Harris and Kate Dickie. While “Monsters” and future “Cogan’s Trade” star Scoot McNairy was also previously linked to a role, it may have been the one Spall has now been cast in.
Details of the project are being kept relatively under wraps though star Fassbender has revealed he’ll play an android in the film which is “a different story [to the ‘Alien’ series’] but it’s also the traditional roots.” Helmer Scott himself added that “‘Alien’ was indeed the jumping off point for this project. Out of the creative process evolved a new, grand mythology and universe in which this original story takes place.”
But Daily Mail’s Baz Bamigoye seemingly sings a different tune, arguing that the film is very much a prequel to Scott’s “Alien” with the monster reportedly “being developed right now” and is one that “is so terrifying it’s scaring the designers!” Sounds like mostly speculation and hearsay at this stage and, from the studio’s reaction to past rumors, Scott and company will probably hold their cards close to their chest until closer to the film’s unveiling.
Either way, shooting begins on March 21st at the famous Pinewood Studios with a June 8th, 2012 release already in place. [DailyMail]

I like Rafe Spall even though that sitcom he had sucked. His dad Timothy is underrated as well.

Surprised the movie doesn't have atleast one American actor in it yet.

Sweet they are filming at Legendary Pinewood Studios.

Rafe Spall, not someone I expected, considering Hot Fuzz, but I welcome every cast addition. It's gonna be mindblowing. Nice tidbit about the creature design, too.

I hope we never see the Alien designs. I want to be pleasantly surprised when I sit down in the theater to watch this movie. No expectations.

in the last 2 years every big budget movie realesed official concept art . plus leaked pics.so the aliens will be out.

lets hope we will be strong enough to not watch them.

'Prometheus' Star Noomi Rapace Talks Character Details, 'Alien' Connection

Rapace says her character is 'very much her own,' despite sharing similarities to Sigourney Weaver's Ripley.

http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1659340/noomi-rapace-alien.jhtml
Despite spin that "Prometheus," Ridley Scott's upcoming sci-fi flick that returns the director to his "Alien" roots, is not a prequel to the franchise he helped launch in 1979, some of the stars of the new film apparently beg to differ. Actor Michael Fassbender told us last month that the new movie shares "a definite connecting vein" with the previous films.

And now "Prometheus" co-star Noomi Rapace has seconded that assessment. When MTV News recently asked the Swedish actress about the definitive "Alien" connection, she answered, simply, "Yeah, yeah."
Yet Rapace emphasized that her character, a scientist named Elizabeth Shaw, is not some knock off of Sigourney Weaver's Ripley — the take-no-crap hero of the original "Alien" movies.
"She's definitely her own," Rapace said of Shaw. "She's a scientist and she's very bright and she's a believer. They have some similarities, but she's very much her own. I don't think people will compare [her] so much to Ripley when they see her. Ripley was a hero for me."

"I have many ideas and he has many ideas, and now we try to find her," the actress told us. "I will step into her shoes in March and be here for six months, so it's quite a long shoot."
