Ok... so i've noticed that xbox 360 has been getting all the good titles so far. with the delay of final fantasy 13 pissing off nearly every final fantasy fan good RPG titles for ps3 are very hard to come by.

so i'm asking you awesome folks to list your RPG experience for PS3

Try Oblivion.
It's a BIG game, (probably keep you plenty busy until FFXIII comes out.) and it's gotten terrific reviews from everyone. And I concur, it's about as good a RPG as you can get. Just know it's more like a PC style RPG than one for a console. Note that the PS3 Game Of The Year edition has the two expansions, Knights of the Nine and The Shivering Isles already included.

I felt the same way as well and Im also not really into RPGs or medieval type stuff but Oblivion won me over bc its really a great game. As for it being first person, the entire game can be played fro third person. You can switch between the 2 views. I personally use both. I usually travel in third person and switch to first person for the combat as I can be more precise with it, but the game caters itself to fans of either view point

No personal expeience with Disgaea, but the two reviews I read (Gamespot and Game Informer) both liked it, but both also said it brought nothing new to the series, it was pretty much the same as the others and maybe a little dated. Still pretty decent reviews after all, and if you liked the others, you'll like this one.

awesome. i'll look into oblivion. my wife works at blockbuster and i'll see if i can get it

Ratchet and Clank is not bad either you can check it out.
I recomend Uncharted you'll have fun with that one it has an amazing story.

Sometime in the middle of last month I bought Dark Kingdom, it's a 3rd person action RPG. Can't really recommend it tho, if I hadn't found it for $15 I wouldn't have bought it in the first place. It's not a horrible game, stories average, voice actings meh, fightings not bad, and you do lvl and get items, and graphics aren't too bad. The problem comes from repetativeness. You basically button mash the entire game.

The main thing that sold me on Dark Kingdom tho was online, and offline multiplayer. Problem is you usually only see 1-2 games up, if any. The character selection is also a downside in a way, you get to play a warrior, assasin, or wizard, all pretty much are the same thing in the end. I've played the game maybe 4 times since I bought it in 2 hour incriments, nothing to make me want to play it really.

I disagree. As an action adventure game it is a success, as a role playing game, it is an a failure.

I kinda agree. I think it does a great job of making you feel like a part of the game. Which to me is what an RPG is about, putting you in the shoes of a character. The lvl up system, and armor/wpn's, and the story (more of a diversion than a driving force) could use improvement tho IMO. Also not fond of enemies lvling up as you do. However I love Oblivion, I def recommend it.

I also tried Valkyria Chronicles demo (got it off the EU store), and it's fun, but it's not an RPG in the classic sense. It's more like a real time version of Final Fantasy Tactics, which isn't a bad thing unless you're looking for a free roaming RPG.

White Knight Chronicles looks like a buy so far tho. I just hope Sony picks up the RPG pace. I have a feeling they think the US isn't good RPG territory anymore as Japan has more PS3 rpg's than we do, and they have waaaaay more PS1 classics and rpg's.

Enemy's level up with you, the NPC's have the personality of a cardboard box and the main story story wasn't very interesting. Some of the side quest's were actually better imo.

even with those flaws I still prefer Oblivion to most JRPG's because in JRPGs you're not exactly role playing in the D&D sense, you just tweaking stats and following a painfully linear narrative.

Ok, we're talkin about RPGs here, not first person shooters. Lets keep it under topic shall we please?

I like that the enemies level up with you. One of the things I dont like about other RPGs is that games tend to get too easy if you level up too much. In FFX, I spent hours leveling up and by the time I did hte final stretch of the game, it was way to easy. I think the final boss took me like 1 or 2 hits. That type of stuff tends to kill the fun out of games. I liked that Oblivion had a difficulty level that was fully customizable at any time in addition to enemies levelling with you, to keep things challenging

Huh? Where do you see FPS talk?

Well, to me Oblivion is as true an RPG as you can get. You have complete control over just about every aspect of your character's development and how they deal with the main story line. You don't even have to deal with the main line at all if you don't want to. The world is vastly deep and about as non-linear as you can get. You can stretch this game out as long as you want.

I just beat it, yesterday after playing for over a year. I had 110 hours locked into that save and now Im onto the Shivering Isles expansion pack

Looking for a good RPG? Then look no further than Fallout 3 that is set to drop in 2 weeks. Itll be out for the PS3, 360 and PC and is SURE to kick ALL kinds of ass.

I suspect that's how it'll go with me, I'll keep this game around for a long time. Most games after I beat them, usually taking no more than a month or two, I get rid of them. The thing is, even after beating Oblivion's main quest, it doesn't mean you're done playing.

All the press I've read calls Fallout 3 an RPG or action/RPG. As far as what a tradional RPG is, well... FF is a traditional CONSOLE style RPG, Games like Oblivion are traditional COMPUTER RPG's.I wouldn't classify Zelda as an RPG at all.

then let me correct myself again. i'm looking more in the console RPGs like: rogue galaxy, final fantasy series, etc.
