Which next gen console are you leaning more towards purchasing?

How long after PS4 and Xbox One's launch did they start to drop the prices? How long after that launch did they release the PS Pro and Xbox S?

I can't remember about price drops. But, I do know both the One S, the PS4 Slim, and the PS4 Pro released in 2016, with the One X releasing in 2017.

So, it took about 3 years after launch before we started seeing major hardware revisions.
 
I have no idea why I woke up this morning and started thinking about gaming and came to the conclusion of "I think I'm going to wait for PS5 Pro or Xbox Series X Elite"

Hey man. I don't blame you. Neither side has yet to give a solid reason to upgrade to next-gen this year at launch.

While I don't think I will wait 3 years for a mid-cycle "Pro" version, I, too, am less inclined to buy either new console at launch. Especially when August is almost over and we still don't know the price for either machine.

TBH. Neither lineup is that compelling to me. Especially from 1st party or console exclusive perspective.

Wouldn't Cyberpunk also be on this list? That would probably be my most anticipated game this fall, but that is not exclusive to one console over the other. Same with Outriders, which I am starting to get more interested in.

If I had to pick a console based on that lineup alone, I would actually lean slightly towards Series X due to the Medium. Especially if Kena is not a launch title for PS5.
 
Assassin's Creed: Valhalla, Marvel's Avengers and Spider-Man: Miles Morales looks great on paper and I feel they will be great games but they will already originally be released as current gen games. Next gen upgrades is cool but I doubt there will be much of a difference like when GTA V got a PS4/XBO port as that was released months after launch than as a launch upgrade and free for current gen owners.
 
I will upgrade this year if I can afford it. If not, I will probably wait til next year. I've been holding off on getting Control since they announced the PS5 version.

Miles Morales isn't going to be released for the ps4.
 
 
Is Dirt 5 not on XSX? Thought that was multiplat.

Oh right good. Just saw it on the PS5 list but not the XSX so was wondering if some kind of deal had been made somehow.

Uh oh. I guess 399 to 450 isn't happening. If the ps4/ps4 pro could go from 399 to the 599 launch price of ps3,I don't see why they can't keep it at 399 as ps4/ps4 pro also had higher specs compare to its predecessors. Technology always improves through time but it really doesn't have to be more eXpensive imo.

Anyway it'd be interesting to see how these two consoles perform sales wise later this year. Launch numbers, if I'm not wrong, is always indicative how will the consoles sell for its entire life span. I see Nintendo having the bigger sales (like they did with Wii) if both companies especially Sony, sell their new console at 499. The 100 difference is imo a lot. I do think Sony is possibly making the same mistake they did with the ps3's launch. Its just not a good idea for the successor for a very successful console (like ps2/4) to be noticeably more eXpensive. I see people leaning on playing/buying a ps4 for the next 2 to 3 years (especially overseas) if they don't decrease it to 399.

I've always expected $500 for either console, so this doesn't surprise me. I think people will be willing to pay that. Anything above that, though, that's where things will get tricky, imo.

That was my original eXpectation until I found out Ps4's launch was 399. Then Factor in the pandemic and the lack of major eXclusives in Holiday 2020 aside from the web slingee, its going to be a slow start for the ps5 if its 500 and above.

Series X on the other hand, like I said before, if they give a very generous price, then maybe but with Halo delayed for 2021. Its not looking good.
 
 
A clever thing both consoles will have to persuade PS4 owners to stick with PS5 and Xbox owners to stick with Series X is free next gen game updates for current owners. They're old games or going to be but still games people go back to/will go back to and any free enhancements are a bonus treat.

I still want to play GTA V until right before VI comes out, whenever that is and even then I might just want to keep it alongside a new game. I have tons and tons of progress made into that game to restart from scratch. I already have The Witcher 3 and it's dlc story expansions nearly beaten or at least progressed a whole lot. I've had Marvel's Avengers for a couple of days and already some good progress to want to redo it all, so I can't imagine how I'd feel next year when I get a next gen console and the game is still being supported. Etc!
 
I will wait until next year likely. System should be easier to get in regard to stocking and hopefully the economy is better for me next year. I cannot justify paying 500+ bucks for a PS5 during the pandemic.
 
Even though I might not get this, this holiday since I just got a new pc, which is more expensive than a ps5. At least, I wont need to do a lot of catching up when I got a ps5. I only have 5 to 6 confirmed titles that will come out in ps5 (that won't be available for the ps4) and it will take maybe 2 to 3 years before I have 20 ps5 games that i wantto buy.

I feel like when I got the ps4. I had to get the games I didn't play in the ps3 era, there were a lot of remasters even for ps2 games, so I bought those too. So far, I have 50+ ps4 games and I only started buying in a monthly basis since mid 2018. I can't believe I bought so many games in 2 1/2 years. I still have like 23 games in my ps4 waitlist (I added ten more titles last month). So I don't need to buy a new console right away. I have plenty of games for the ps4 that I have yet to buy and I don't want to buy them all in 1 day or 1 month.
 
Right now, Spider-Man: Miles Morales is the only game on PS5 that I feel I absolutely need. So I can wait
