Pretty good episode/premiere. Weird that this is the final season. I remember watching the pilot when it first aired like it was yesterday.

I liked the premiere but it made me worried that Marion won't really matter in this story.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, according to the producers - her character was only going to have a very small cameo roll for the infamous kill scene, but the more they had meetings the more they wanted her character to have a prominent role in the season.

That's the only hang-up for me, I think that timeline is a bit of a stretch. Norman and Emma hadn't even graduated by the S4 finale, did they? And going to college was a big part of Emma's storyline last season, right? So she leaves White Pine Bay, goes to college and gets pregnant sometime in her Freshman year and it's just like "Yeah, let's buy a house and start a family"? Ehh...

finally got around to watching the season premiere and I loved it... I think that more than ever, this season has that vibe and feel and atmosphere of the Psycho movie...

To be fair, Norman getting the job done almost always ends in bloodshed, so that may be for the best.

So I thought Rihanna was decent. Not really wooden or unnatural, but also didn't wow me enough to make me forget that I'm watching a pop star encroaching on cable drama actor territory.

^Agreed. It almost felt like two different shows when you compare the Rihanna scenes to Norman's own scenes in this episode. However, I'm digging how the writers are tying elements from Psycho (1960) into Bates Motel. Can't wait to see how all the storylines/subplots with Romero, Dylan and Emma,etc. come together.

I noticed during the scene where Marion asked her boss for a raise. She mentioned that she replaced Janet. I wonder if that was an in joke e.g. Rihanna replacing Janet Leigh as Marion Crane.
