Dunno what to say. I mean summer is usually blockbuster season, when studios release all of their potential money-makers filled with a lot of action.

But maybe Public Enemies will be the first film, which will make a lot of money being released on one of the most hot days. I hope it won't at least make less that its budget.

There is no imformation about the budget, but if it's directed by Mann, then it should be more than $100m.

I'd be suprised of they don't push the movie to the fall. Its really stupid to release it in the summer.

Couple of people over at IMDB said they spotted Emile De Ravin(Claire from Lost)....they said she will beplaying bank teller Anna Patzke who was taken hostage and later released...There are pics, i'll look for them.

Well, Collateral did well in august, and with the two stars of this movie, I can see them releasing it then.

How big of a role does she play?

Im not completely sure but it sounds like she is a teller at one of the banks Dillinger robs, and she is taken hostage. Not a ton of screentime.

Miami Vice had one shoot out and neither star was anywhere near as popular as Bale and especially Depp, Dillinger and 30's gangsters are classic Americana and the film is LOADED with action, totally different to Miami Vice

That confirmed?

I'm pretty content with the July 1st release date...i mean that only means we'll be seeing it sooner...The same audience that will go see this in the fall will see it in the summer...not that big of a deal.

Collateral is no Public Enemies. What has it got to do with this movie anyway?

It was directed by Mann and was released in the summer to a $100M domestic, it was an R rated movie with 2 smallish action sequences.

So Public Enemies should be released in the summer because the director's last movie was released in the summer? No.

It should be released in the summer b/c it has potential to be a massive hit, instead being stuffed in the "please gimme an Oscar sir" spot of November. The point with Collateral is that if it was a hit in Summer, Public enemies has more going for it so there's no reason not to release it in the summer.

I agree Hunter, Summer IMO is the best time for release. With these two stars attached I really don't see why the studio would move it, it should make pretty good money.

This is not a summer movie. It does not have potential in the summer. It will so be overshadowed by all the summer movies and the mainstreem audience will just forget about it. Star-power isnt as powerful as you people think. Unless they want to lose money, I dont know why they would pick a July release. Theres no resemblance between Collateral and Public Enemies except for the director. Collateral is much more appealing for the summer audience. Public Enemies is a much seriously made movie. I would compare Public Enemies more to The Departed or No Country Of Old Men.

And the Oscars actually helps alot on making money. You wouldnt believe the effect of it.

Just looking back at the last couple years at the Best Picture nominations, I would think that this film has the highest budget of any of those films(if this turns out that good).... The film is more geared towards a summer release IMO....two of the bigger stars today, plus a big budget, not to mention plenty of action from the various set videos i've seen. Also like I mentioned a 100M budget....I think this film would do quite well in the summer.

Forget it, Im not in a very good mood of discussing it. Lets just say we disagree about it.
Here are some pictures of a possible Emilie de Ravin by the way. Looks like it might be her.
